You are so articulate and I appreciate your stances on the authors you mentioned. Even in a space that has been curated by you, it takes guts to openly share how your morals effect the books you will decide to buy/read. Loved this video and find all your content interesting and soothing this time of year! Hope all is well and your family is in good health, lovely ❤️
I think that you articulated yourself just fine on the subject matte of the book “Girl”! Give yourself more credit!! By the way I love you been watching you for years! Since I was 20. I am 28 years old now. Never stop making videos please. pS I live in Memphis, TN.
I dont know what it is. Is it the comfy clothes? The dark winter indoor lighting? The angles? Whatever it is, there is just something about your october vlogs that are just a step ahead of your other vlogs. Loved this, can't wait for more!
I'm so here for this content. You've continued to make the month of October something to look forward to over the past years. It doesn't feel as cosy as when sitting down with a mug of tea listening to your rambling. Sending autumnal regards from Hegel / Schiller / Goethe downtown (Jena, Germany).
Jess love that you said it’s about ‘authors doing it the right way’ and happy to see you mention the Palestinian author. I’ve always seen you be so socially conscious and it’s empowering❤️
This is perfect Jess, thanks for making the effort as you and your family go through hard times. It is always appreciated. Wishing you all the best and so looking forward to the other Vlogtober content x
Thank you so much for the generous mention, Jess! I hope you like Against the Loveless World. I have to read it as well and I look forward to your review.
I like the longer videos. I appreciate the depth and informative nature you take the time to put into those videos as well as your honest thoughts & observations.
I've been looking forward to these vlogs so much!! I appreciate them a lot and please dont feel pressured to upload them when you dont have time, they are the most fun when you have fun making them xx
Thank you for still continuing with Vlogtober this year Jess given everything going on, I hope your mum’s doing ok. ❤️ would you consider doing some fashion related content in your vlogtobers maybe? I do appreciate your book content and the work that goes into it, but I do miss your fashion stuff a lot. Not even hauls etc but maybe showing us some of your fave loungewear pieces atm for WFH or a “shopping your closet” segment could be fun. Xx
Thank you for doing this Jess! I have been following your vlogtobers for years now and I was at uni while you were so they bring me some sort of comfort and nostalgia. Definitely made my day seeing this!
as a palestinian and a long time subscriber, im so so happy you mentioned a palestinian author! i read susan abulhawa’s mornings in jenin for a university course and really enjoyed it! hope u like the book and thank you for mentioning her! looking forward to more vlogtobers! xx
I so enjoyed this vlog! I appreciate how thoughtful you are with your reading and book recs. Thank you for still providing us content with all you have going on.
Wowowowow, thank you so much for taking the time to speak about the books you won't read and controversial authors. I truly appreciated what you said and how you said it. It takes courage to do so when you have a large audience, thank you for this.
I love your long book videos! I would happily watch an hour + long book video. And thank you for sharing your thoughts on Apeirogon. I hadn't heard about the controvosery and I too am reading the Man Booker longlist this year. After doing some more research I've decided that I'm also going to take it off my reading list, which in a way is a relief because my TBR was getting ridiculously long!
omg jessie i was not expecting any sort of vlogtober content from you this year! i can tell from the comments that we all feel similarly - any kind of anything from you is appreciated. i am so pleased :)
An old wives tale is that conkers stop spiders! No idea why but there’s conkers placed all over our home, behind pot plants, on book shelves etc and haven’t seen a spider yet! 😁
I started watching you 6 years ago doing a levels when I stayed up all night to get on top of my maths work, and you kept me going. Here I am still at the maths, still watching vlogtobers.
I am so excited that you are doing weekly vlogs for vlogtober! It will definitely make my month feel more normal! And kudos to you for not ridding your window of "the Jeff's!" I have gotten less afraid of spiders as I've gotten older! 🕷️🕸️
I dislike a lot of Booker Prize shortlisted/longlisted books too! Totally subjective and I suppose the judges use a different rubric for their reviews.
Thanks for this vlog!! I really enjoyed it, thank you for including your thoughts on these controversial authors. I hope it will encourage other readers to really pay attention to what authors do and how that translates into their work, and help build more critical thinking towards these renowned authors' actions and our own in response.
I used to love long videos! I would just put it on and listen to you chat for an hour about books while I was working, etc. Now that ads pop up in the middle of videos, I’ve found myself hesitant to watch long videos because I can’t just put them on and leave them.
I just want to say that I love watching your vlogs❤️ And as a book lover, I really appreciate your reviews, recommendations and book talks📚I hope you have a lovely week🤗
Totally agree with you about authors writing about other cultures in an insensitive way. I finished Girl by Edna OBrien and just thought it was utterly ignorant, never mind the fact that it wasn't even written well! It totally missed the mark in so many places
I really don't mind these cosy vlogs where she just reads, eats, talks to us and so on, like I don't mind if they're not action packed because of quarantine :)
Jessie I've been following you for years and I just want to say I have so much respect for the point you made about Colum McCann's book! It's a good point to make and I agree I think publishers need to start really questioning their choices.
Totally agree with your decision regarding THAT book on the Booker list - there are so many brilliant works of fiction and non fiction by Palestinian authors that there’s no need for white men to appropriate them for their own gain. I work for a publisher with an Arabic imprint and we’ve published a few Palestinian authors and anthologies of stories, please do seek them out and read Palestinian perspectives people!
Loved the video as always, Jess! And I totally agree with you on the whole McCann thing, I did not read his book and have no interest at all in doing so, I truly appreciate that you often take the time to comment on stuff like that. Also, to answer your question: yes, I love your long book related videos! ❤️
Would you commit to never read Harry Potter again? Iam a huge fan of the series and feel very torn after her latest comments. At the same time did the HP series lose their value at the same time its author lost her relatability? I am so not ready to lose this part of my childhood 🙂love your vlogtobers by the way and it is impressive how many steps you have to take for a cup of tea 😄 ❤️
I’m guessing you own the books and movies based off how much you seem to like them so you consuming HP doesn’t give Rowling money anymore. Given that I’d say it’s fine. Personally I see not buying books from an author who has done a bad thing as me boycotting their work. Since you own it I think you’re good.
Lunch suggestion if you like spicy: Korean Mapo Tofu Banchan by Future Neighbor th-cam.com/video/fdVVuH2ZnrU/w-d-xo.html. To save time, roll the cubed tofu in a little bit of oil rather than microwaving it. So good.
I completely agree with people who have expressed concern about your comments regarding Colum McCann. I think it's your prerogative to chose not to support an artist but to criticise the book because it contains the story of two men of cultures and ethnicities different to that of McCann seems slightly strange, particularly given that you have not read the book. You also blacklist J K Rowling on the basis of her new book - I must ask, have you read this work? Because to reduce a transgender woman to a man in a woman's coat wearing a wig would be abhorrent but is the sentiment given off when you say that the book is transphobic.
Troubled Blood has absolutely zero transphobia in it. Jess is being extremely ignorant saying it has horrific transphobia when she hasn't read it. I think she's listening to Munroe Bergdorf too much
Regardless of whether or not that book is actually transphobic, it doesn’t change the fact that JK Rowling’s comments on the internet are. Jess has every right to not support an author whose beliefs she not only disagrees with but also finds to be actually harmful.
It wouldn’t be October without SunBeamsJess! 📚✨🍂✨🎃
Thank you Jess for doing Vlogtober, even though circumstances aren’t ideal this year! Btw, I love your purple sweater 💜
She's brightening up this time for us all

Can't even imagine october without your vlogs anymore (been watching since 2015!), so thank you for still doing it in some capacity!
I'm so here for this content. You've continued to make the month of October something to look forward to over the past years. It doesn't feel as cosy as when sitting down with a mug of tea listening to your rambling. Sending autumnal regards from Hegel / Schiller / Goethe downtown (Jena, Germany).
As an Arab I'm really happy to see you mention a Palestinian author.
Jess love that you said it’s about ‘authors doing it the right way’ and happy to see you mention the Palestinian author. I’ve always seen you be so socially conscious and it’s empowering❤️

Thank you so much for the generous mention, Jess! I hope you like Against the Loveless World. I have to read it as well and I look forward to your review.
I'm not gonna lie, being called a "sweet angel child" made me feel great 😂❤️
Inspired to read more cus of you, thanks mama 💖
I like the longer videos. I appreciate the depth and informative nature you take the time to put into those videos as well as your honest thoughts & observations.
It‘s okay what you said at the beginning, you don’t have to keep up with this whole work society of you need a break. 🥺❤️
I've been looking forward to these vlogs so much!! I appreciate them a lot and please dont feel pressured to upload them when you dont have time, they are the most fun when you have fun making them xx

Yes! I miss the Week in Outfits!
Thank you for doing this Jess! I have been following your vlogtobers for years now and I was at uni while you were so they bring me some sort of comfort and nostalgia. Definitely made my day seeing this!
The ‘as I said in my September books, which I haven’t filmed yet’ part scrambled my brain for a second there😂
I’m shook by how many flights of stairs are in your house. 🤯😅
You know sunbeams we are alwayls having fun together. Im still watching old vlogtobers every october!
as a palestinian and a long time subscriber, im so so happy you mentioned a palestinian author! i read susan abulhawa’s mornings in jenin for a university course and really enjoyed it! hope u like the book and thank you for mentioning her! looking forward to more vlogtobers! xx
Your October vlogs are nostalgic. Moody I love it.
Thanks for doing vlogtoberish! Been rewatching your old vlogtobers in Edinburgh so these vlogs will be nice to look forward to :)
I so enjoyed this vlog! I appreciate how thoughtful you are with your reading and book recs. Thank you for still providing us content with all you have going on.
I really hope I haven’t missed anything here, is Mimi the dog okay??? 🥺
I wonder about Mimi too
Neverwhere has been on my TBR for years so I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!!
It is totally fine with no daily vlogtobers!!! Appreciate you very much for just doing it :)
Wowowowow, thank you so much for taking the time to speak about the books you won't read and controversial authors. I truly appreciated what you said and how you said it. It takes courage to do so when you have a large audience, thank you for this.
so happy there is some vlogtober!!
I love your long book videos! I would happily watch an hour + long book video. And thank you for sharing your thoughts on Apeirogon. So excited for this year’s Vlogtober!! No matter what you post, I always seem to enjoy them 💖
Rest from what?
An old wives tale is that conkers stop spiders! No idea why but there’s conkers placed all over our home, behind pot plants, on book shelves etc and haven’t seen a spider yet! 😁

and great editing, zak!

Love these relaxed chatty videos
adorbs 😍😍!
Is it just me or does Jessie have a wedding ring on?
love you, jess.
Jess, JK Rowling did not write a transphobic book ... ~ Please inform yourself better. Other than that the vlog is great~
This make my day
