When Starmer went into a pub in Bath he had his film crew ( and his minders with him). He got his comeuppance at "The Raven" when the landlord chucked him out ! I went in and thanked the guy and bought him a drink !

The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment" - Also I'm from a working-class family, Dad was a Painter and Decorator, Mum worked as an auxiliary at our local cottage hospital. @BarbaraGrosvenor We need to teach kids at school how the royal finances work. They don't take money from us, we take it from them.
The Crown Estate income (owned by the Monarch) is given by the Monarch to the Government. Who gives 15% BACK to the Monarch to finance & run the Royal household. Which includes all of its members. The Government uses the other 85% for whatever it wants. The Royals also have their own private lands & incomes as well. (Duchies, Baronets, etc.)
NONE of their income comes from us.
We get 85% of THEIR income, make income off of tourism in relation to the royals. Also we benefit from international deals they are involved with. Anything the Government pays for (like the coronation) they are using the money they got from the Crown estate income.

Great comments about the phone being for rich people. When we got our first phone it was the modern one as we couldn’t afford one when they were the ‘older’ style. When I made my first call to a friend who was out and said I’d call back I got really told off. ‘Get them to call back, we cant afford to make many calls!’.
Whilst at Uni in 1983 we clubbed together and got a phone. Couldn’t make calls as that was too expensive.

One couple actually had canvas sheeting laid down to protect floorboards. Television was also a luxury, 3 channels when I grew up, turned off at 11.30 or midnight with the national anthem, then white noise until 7am. Never had a TV until I got married at 20, that was on HP.
