I love how you aren’t completely blinded by nostalgia but actually compares both the reboot and the original in a fair way.
I remember the original one and yes even though it was old I still loved it so when I heard about the reboot I was actually interested especially when the characters sounded similar and they even made the 4th wall breaks which I love

I also miss Slappy Squirrel, and her being gone is the weirdest because I think her form of comedy aged the best.
Slappy squirrel is a very underrated cartoon character.
Fun fact I had a pet squirrel (I’m not joking) and I name her slappy cuz me and my sister love the animainacs
Definitely, the other characters were formulaic. The Good feathers always end up fighting due to some silly verbal misunderstanding. Buttons always gets hurt chasing Mindy. Katie Kaboom always gets angry. Slappy sketches had the best variety with Who's on Stage and the Bambi sketch, etc.
@@dingle2987 I don't know how mad I can get at Buttons and Mindy for being formulaic. I mean it definitely was but it was about the new and interesting ways Buttons would get hurt.
@@spyrofan9681 Slapstick was definitely a plus for Buttons and Mindy. As Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote have shown, a formula can feel fresh if you move the parts around just right. Which is probably why the Goodfeathers had a harder time since the sketches were mostly dialog based.

The writers announced that all the original characters are coming back in season 2! They claim they didn't want to overwhelm themselves with too many characters as they work to get a feel with the comedy, characters, etc. But no, they weren't streamlined. They were held back for season 2.

Prince and Prints almost sound the same, the whole joke is that Dot would grab Prince instead of finding fingerprints, which when Yakko said Finger prints, Dot was confused, and then she says "I don't think so.".

Not gonna lie, the lack of Slappy Squirrel hurts. Having a veteran trickster god put the moral guardians in their place with good ol' fashioned cartoon violence never got old.
I miss the Goodfeathers :(
The lack of supporting cast was one of the biggest letdowns, but hopefully they'll bring them back next season. Also, pet peeves of mine, no end credits gag and Pinky and The Brain intro felt kinda rushed.

I guess if they continued to portray her character as just the 'cute little sister' there would be a lot of criticism... we've moved on (at least a little) since the 90's (thank God). Also, Dot is now more central to the jokes and story line, more of an active participant.

Honestly, the reboot doesn’t make the Warners feel too out of character since there were episodes in the original series where they picked on people who weren’t full-on jerks & made more left-winged political jokes:
* Clown & Out- The clown wasn’t mean or rude to Wakko. He just scared him
* Schnitzelblank- They suddenly started picking on that Otto guy during the song
* Cutie and the Beast- There are several jokes where the Warner’s are more jaded & a joke poking fun at the Republican Party
Does the reboot need work? Yes, but at least the Warner’s aren’t completely out of character & it’s not as bad as Teen Titans Go or PPG 2016

Reminds me of when people started saying comic books shouldn't be political. I'm like Dude Superman was literally conceived of as the Anti-ubermench, issue 1 of Captain America has Captain America punching Hitler in the face on the cover before the US entered WWll these things were always overtly and openly political. Granted political writing can be bad, hamfisted, and/or too on the nose at but crying about a piece media just because its political is basically admitting you're super insecure in your politics.

The way Animaniacs does political comedy is incredible, it makes fun of both political sides.
That Pinky and the Brain segment where Pinky is (allegedly) trying to hold back Brain reminded me of an old theory that states that Pinky is actually pretty smart and is trying to prevent Brain from taking over the world. I mean, you know how the song goes: "One is a genius, the other's insane". But which one is the genius, and which one is insane?
That's part of the characters. Brain is always trying to do the same thing every day

Animation is the art of fluid movement. Art style is what people complain about. People don't know the difference.
I definitely am iffy about the digital animation. It's not bad, it's just that I notice a lot of the assistance and methods that make it feel kind of robotic to me.

This always irks me when I watch animation critics here on youtube. They always conflate art style with animation.

As a kid I always remembered in one episode they smashed the tv screen with a mallot and it looked like the actual glass on the screen was busted. And in perfect timing my mom had just walked downstairs half asleep and looked at the tv... Then looked at me and brother and was like "what did y'all do to the tv?!?!" 😂😂😂💀💀💀 We had to change the channel to convince her it wasn't actually busted. I'm still in tears every time I think of that episode 😭😂

I absolutely loved the animation they did for the intro to "Pinky and the Brain" because it was both really modern in animation and totally in the 90s in terms of theme

When they were designing the style for the reboot they wanted it to feel like how you thought you saw it instead of what it actually looked like.
Loved the reference to Yakko’s world.
I think most of the characters were left out and chose to do the popular ones to test the waters, and may slowly trickle them back in over time.

The chicken (Chicken boo boo?) Comes back as a villan, and they call him out for being the most hated character on the show. This is also poking fun at how there's mostly just the warners and no one else, because chicken boo boo is hunting them down. It's quite funny.

I love how everything is bouncy and fluid. The way everyone moves and how the mouths move and how the shapes are formed and I really just enjoy the animation better than the original in a matter of fact. And I love how they call out the NSA prime stuff right there

Between the two, the og show has noticeably bouncier (or exaggerated) animation, especially in the intro. I guess the reboot isn't the same to save time or something, I dunno. I'm not hating though!! I love both of them :D

@@AnimatedArt-zp8ml it's not, Titmouse Studio and another I forget the name of worked on this with guest studios for specific parts like Studio Yotta for the anime segment. TMS and like 8 other studios worked on the original, but the model sheets were mostly based off of how TMS tended to draw them as they deviated from the model sheets some times for better movement/animation

Honestly I think if people didn't expect political jokes, they don't remember the original that well or that stuff just flew over their heads at the time. Bill Clinton was in the original _opening_ for crying out loud, it'd be weird and feel sanitized if they didn't get political.

The issue with the political thing is this was written in 2018, they didn’t realise everyone would have trump fatigue at this point, and the jokes would all be run into the ground

Something I liked when I watched the first episode was how they didnt try to have this deep story complex story about where the Warners were all these years since the show ended or what happened to them, they just show up one day years later and do their thing and I like that.
I do wonder if Pinky and the Brain will ever address how they escaped Elmyra.

Animaniacs has always been political to some extent, the only reason it feels like it hasn't is because most people were children when they initially watched it and didn't fully understand the commentary at the time.
EDIT: I'm not saying that the political commentary is exactly the same or as fair in the reboot as it was in the original, I'm just saying that the show has always had these themes and it's ridiculous to criticize the reboot simply for "making it political" when it's been like that since the beginning.

Don't dog on Hulu, it's 1,000x better than Netflix, has way more well-known shows and offers add-ons to be able to watch content from other streaming services in just one place.
Love how older cartoons like Animaniacs and Invader Zim are getting cool anime fight scenes.
But we might as well dog on Hulu, because we don't have it in Canada, we barely even have HBO Max in Canada, our streaming services are Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Paramount+, and Crave.
You can watch the 2020 Animaniacs revival on TV, but what if you don't have cable? You have to get the show some other way. It is on DVD, the entire first season, but what if you have no cash?

I was really afraid that this reboot wouldn't be good, but hey, I love it and I remember the opening theme by heart now.
When it was being pitched around to all the animation studios, The people making the Warner Bros cartoon wanted it Specifically to be as close to tradition animation as possible to keep the spirit of the original. The animation is almost Identical to the original just digital, big props to the production team for all the effort put into this show.
For how much work they’d put in it’s strange that they’d ignore basic shadows lighting and shading, which even the original has.
Cel animation is a work of art but it costs much more both in time and money
I swear to God if season 2 is fudged I will commit so many atrocities that they will move Stephen King's it to the heartwarming section in libraries.
