We're in the market for a treadmill right now. Gyms all shut down. Too cold and dangerous to run outside where I live (other reasons too I won't get into).... This is not only helpful but very funny! (And @2:00 ...this practically predicted the future!)
Hi. I really enjoy treadmill running lately. I have run since about 20 y.o. but now at 62 it felt like I got a better workout than running outside. More time, more sweat and less joint discomfort. I tend to do 4 miles in about 34 minutes as my daily run but some times do the hour meaning about 7 miles. Outside running is not considered as is to buy a treadmill. I prefer to hit the gym and feed my pupils while working out. At the gym I can also use the resistance machines and use the rowers that also gave me great cardio time.
I am over 200lbs and run between 35 to 45 miles a week. I bought a Bowflex 7 series treadmill in 2005 and had over 10K miles on it when it finally died this month. Several times I worked with the Bowflex Customer Service and never had an issue. Just purchased a Bowflex BXT216 and hoping to get just as much use out of it. As a final note every month, or every other month, used silicone spray on the deck, belt, and performed all regular maintenance to extend the life.
Congratulations, Nelson!! I definitely know the feeling. If you want a few tips, from my years of treadmill ownership, check out "Learning to use your first treadmill" th-cam.com/video/s8cqvZPdC-o/w-d-xo.html THANKS FOR WATCHING!!
Same here dude im buying my own gym at home and tredmail just bought self a ROGUE BENCH PRESS WEST SIDE 2.0 AND THIS MONTH IM BUY MY TREDMAIL IM WORK FROM HOME NOW IDC ABOUT GYMS NO MORE
@@GAMERCASB hey what treadmill are you buying I want to get one aswell was looking into getting a nordictrack 1750 but I seen alot of bad reviews about that company so might go for a proform let me know thanks
Been running pavement for40 yrs, climbing trees ,urban lumberjack for 30 yrs. At 62, ready for any challenge, just climbed and disassembled a 120 ft pine, and 130 pine, over the house. 4 yrs in the Marines was the best vacation I ever had. Just keep moving!
I run ~50mi per week, threrefore have my own treadmill for years, whenever the weather is bad. My thoughts: Forget about features and gadgets (TV, video, music, heartrate, touchscreen, incline, decline,....) but only focus on a robust design/build quality, strong motor and a larger running platform size. You want to run, that's it. For the saved money, better buy a dedicated tablet or TV or a stereo....
Ein, you've got a great fitness regimen but I disagree (a little) with the features and gadgets. For instance, I have come to find that incline and decline are worth it...if you choose to use them. I also appreciate good information screens. My biggest difference is I employ music as a powerful motivational aid. That said, watching a movie or TV I find distracting and counter productive. You assertion to choose a robust design, strong motor and larger platform size are spot on. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
@@BuckRogers2000 personally I also cannot run with TV. But YT music videos are okay. Therefore I have a computer connected to a movie projector giving me a picture across my whole pain cave wall (even ZWIFT would be possible if I'd like) :) I guess no treadmill can give my that immersion, also I can use that setup for my bike trainer.
If you buy at Walmart, expect to pay ~$500. Just like described, smaller surface, smaller rollers...if you accept this is really just a walking machine (265lb capacity and 2.25hp motor) then it works just fine.
True enough, although I wouldn't expect more than a few hundred miles from them...Their weight capacity is probably not realistic, however. The more you weigh, say than 170 pounds, the less reliable it will be. Especially, if they're not maintained. For an example, my Proform "SmartPro 5000" has a 4.2 HP motor. Yet, it allows for "roller runaway" at steep inclines...once again, if you weigh over a certain amount.
@james avery seriously, it prolly takes them $100 or less to manufacture in china lol. Might as well as sell it for at least $500 for us moderate-income folks
A window? Not for me. I need a big screen TV in front of my treadmill. If I watch good engaging TV series, over time my mind starts to tune out the running and focus more on the TV. I try to do 45min at mac incline with a 30lb backpack 5 days a week. Most people are going to watch TV anyway, so if you can run and watch it's win-win-win. Get your entertainment, get fit, save time.
Treadmills give me the luxury of running with nothing but my boxers and sports shoes something ill never be able to do in a gym or around the area i live which is near a pre school, a church and an Apple store.
yea i am looking for treadmill also, but sadly most I see in my budget range is like 1.25 or 1.75 HP motor... and goes up to 1-16 Km/H, also all brands I see are relatively unknown... Atala... Christopeit... Tunturi... There are some others but their motors are even weaker and max speed is something like 12 km/h... Also don't really want to buy elliptical or a regular bike as I know I never really use them much in gym anyway... seems a lot of people are now getting same idea and buying training equipment :D
Thanks for watching! All is not lost...but you may have to work for it. First thing to do is swap your perspective. Imagine all the people who have purchased treadmills but simply given up on using them. Now imagine trying to get rid of the albatross, with all those shiny brand new technologically advanced units. Who wants "my" hand me downs"? I also recommend casting a regional serch for estate sales. These are the people with the money to buy top notch equipment. All right, enough talk - Get to work! ;)
I just bought one for my condo but all I have heard is no! you cant in a condo you will bother everyone and get complaints etc etc...now I am panicked! But I am desperate for one since I love to run and love treadmills and am sick of the dirty gyms and people and noise. Should I keep it or cancel delivery!? I am so sad, I hate living in a condo.
If you have the footprint, especially downstairs, I say keep it. I recently was renting a townhouse and used mine frequently. It didn't bother MY neighbors. Upstairs will be difficult to haul up. It will be more likely to disrupt someone's sleep. Good luck!!!
Having a treadmill in a Condo is okay if you live on the 1st floor only, otherwise your neighbors below you can hear you running/walking. I had a neighbor that ran over my head almost daily. He never asked me any questions about my work schedule, or whether or not I could hear it running, and let alone whether it disturbed the hell out of me, which it did!!! A bit of common sense advice, unless you want to fight with your neighbor, the HOA or the Police, please, please do not operate a treadmill over another unit/apt/home below you Sir?
Thank you so much man!!! Positive you just saved me thousands of dollars, stress and headache. This stuff is common sense but this day and age it's amazing how a person won't want to spend 30 mins of solid research in order to potentially save them thousands of dollars and much frustration! This is definitely all the markers I would have checked and it's always nice to hear the reassurance of actually and importance of actually doing your due diligence and proper vetting!!! Thanks again amigo for helping us little guys beat the big slick cheats!!!
I think ANY manufacturer sells an entry level machine. Personally, I wouldn't buy a Landice L7 because the rollers are too small. Their L8 though, now you're talkin'!
I just bought a Proform and the shit that I’ve endured in having them try to sort the incline out, which doesn’t work at all, is diabolical. I felt like smashing it up and throwing it at them. They don’t give a damn regards after sales service.
WHY CAN'T ANYTHING BE SIMPLE =- AHHHHhhhhhhh!!! I had the same problem with my first treadmill...it's the main reason I started this series. I can't say what your model is or how much you paid but you have a couple of options. 1. If you're still in the window of purchasing the extended warranty, (UTS) do it. NOW. If you bought a cheap model ($500 range), get the 5 year plan. They are generally responsive, NOT like Proform "customer service". You'll likely be calling them throughout the warranty period. 2. If you're past the warranty period, I've noticed Icon Health & Fitness seems to use the Better Business Bureau as their de facto customer service. They used to have a D- but since this video was publlished they seem to care about what their rating is. Lodge a complaint. Once your "case" is settled, leave the appropriate feedback. This seems to be the best way for us treadmill owners to determine which manufacturers are selling snake oil or not. GOOD LUCK!!!
Buck Rogers 2000 Mine is a Proform 545i and is now up to full price at £899.99. I paid £699.99 on a plan. I’ve spoken to Argos the retailer, Panther the couriers, and Icon themselves. All as shit. The main bone of contention is that mine is stored in my spare upstairs bedroom. They will not take it as up stairs. My retort was if I was a pensioner that lived on a first floor flat, would they still be saying I had to get it downstairs?! It’s their machine, not my fault that they sent me a sub par machine, so should be up to them to bloody get it. I honestly am at my wits end. They are supposed to be doing a straight switch on Tuesday but won’t hold my breath. Also this is the second day I’ve had to book off work as the first one they cocked up on. Loads more to this shit but drives me nuts just recalling it all again
I been running and jogging on my proform for about 5 years and I broke the belt weeks ago and i dont know why it was tear and having holes in it. Main problem now its hard to buy those belt in fitness store. On those 5 years i been using it almost everyday and also my mom. Never try running contanstly for an hour or more not a hard core runner. But combination of jog about 6-7 speed and running 8-9 speed which i do usually about 60mins and 90mins on the treadmill and not experiencing those timeout. And also it had a small roller like what said in the video. What i hate is that im constanly adjusting the belt due to slipping left and right after couple of uses.
Ed - First of all, GREAT WORK!! Unfortunately though, any treadmill will wear out components, especially belts. The fact that you got five years out of a Proform product is kind of amazing...at those speeds and distances, wow. You could try calling Icon Health and Fitness, they should probably stock the belt. You could also try a work around and try calling their warrranty department (UTS) to see if they can get you in touch with their Proform customer service. Proform is notorious for their elusive customer service. THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!
@@BuckRogers2000 I agree with you. Their customer service is a no no not recommending such product base in customer service. Right now im waiting for fitness stores replies for my belt i will try the one you suggest. Maybe the longevity of my treadmill because im around 50kg - 60kg and on those 5 years no person 80kg and above uses the treadmill. Maybe that is also a factor. And im using proform 400i no fancy screen. We just use treadmill for excercise especially my mom. I was planning after changing the belt i would sell it. Can you suggest a good brand ?
@@edguantero9188 Ed, I don't recommend any brands. Things change too quickly and something you need to do yourself. However, if you follow my recommendations in the video, you should probably do alright. GOOD LUCK!!!
I want to buy a sole f85 so bad but it’s a lot of money and commitment for an avid outdoor runner... this hot weather has me tempted though, what do you think?? Fun to have both options!
Rachel, I can't comment on the Sole brand. I haven't checked recently. If you performed your due diligence, as described in the video, you should be O.K. As for having the option of choosing whether you want an indoor or outdoor run - IT IS PRICELESS! Good luck!
Chandan, Thanks for watching!! I have not tried the Sole brand, except for once or twice at the Travis AFB, Ca gym. That was years ago. One reason why I produced this video was that one particular company was obviously producing substandard equipment. Sole wasn't it. That said, there wasn't a lot on the other companies to base a judgement on. Businesses are in it for the money, not altruism. That one company I alluded to earlier may have poisoned the well, as other companys have started cutting corners too. I recommend checking the BBB's website for the latest complaints and reviews. Oh, be cautious about the "rating" the BBB gives its companys. It's based upon the number of closed cases. If Sole passes your muster (you decide to buy one), I encourage you to post your experience with it...or with whatever you decide to buy. Good luck and HAPPY RUNNING!!!!
Excellent video. I have some joint problems and can't handle too much impact. I heard Bowflex BTX216 has a cushioning technology to help alleviate some stress. Would you recommend that particular model?
@Rikstar81 Thanks for watching! Here's the thing, I can't tell you about the Bowflex or any other machine...I would question any supposed expert that doesn't own one and hasn't used it extensively. I am no exception. All I can offer is a review of what I own. Please note - I AM NOT endorsing Icon Health and Fitness or any other brand. We pays our money and takes our chances. This video is meant to give YOU the tools to determine what your best odds are. Regardless what you choose - congratulations and may your fitness journey be joyful!! Here's the link to my "Verdict" on the Proform (Icon Health &Fitness) SmartPro 5000: th-cam.com/video/I_GArk9ZuAM/w-d-xo.html
Problem with treadmills is the physics. If you have a moving treadmill surface below your feet, you only need to generate roughly half the amount of friction needed to propel your mass forward to keep up with the treadmill as compared to a stationary earth surface below your feet when you run naturally. You get a better workout running in the park or street.
Thanks for watching! While it's true that road work and treadmill running aren't the same, they're sufficiently similar...if you employ an incline. I run at a 2 degree inline and it's almost perfect. Unfortunately, many, many people don't take this into account. Then they can't understand why they don't do as good on the community 5ks!
makes sense, thanks for the video, I got lucky and found one for 200$ from an old lady that barely used it. been at it for a couple of months now and still works great.
@@BuckRogers2000 Took a chance with a discontinued one. LIVESTRONG LS 10.0T. I gotta call the 800 number , I Wanna know the hours on it. I gave your trick a try but it doesnt seem to work. And I would like it to read in KM not miles. I know some can be switched.
@@pell557 That trick is only for older Icon Health and Fitness machines (Proform, Nordic Track, Epic and a few other brands). Good luck and happy running!
I’m in no condition to go out jogging. I’m 76 years old and both knees are blown out. I have arthritis so bad that I can barely get on my feet. Well, that’s why I purchased a treadmill. Being on a very low fixed income, I cannot afford to spend thousands of dollars on a treadmill. So what I did, was purchased the Nordictrack 900 from COSTCO. 800 plus tax. It took 5 hours to put it together. Well, we will see how it does. I need to get in it. I do not want to be a couch potato and I need to keep my diabetes in check.
Congratulations!! If I may, here's a link you may find helpful: th-cam.com/video/s8cqvZPdC-o/w-d-xo.html You have the right idea and motivation. I cannot stress how much music has helped me, while not distracting me from my purpose. I would also recommend registering it and investing in their warranty program. It paid for itself when my EPIC T40 had a irreplaceable part - I got a free new treadmill.
I am sort of a music freak, and I just to have to complement the creator of this video about the music that is played in the background throughout. It is really good.
Thanks for watching! I'm a music freak too. The tune in the video is canned from Smartsound software. I'm actually going to start making my own music, as I took up several instruments. Fun, right?
Very informative video, one thing that I also look for is the impact when running. I had a surgery on my right knee 25 year ago and I I am still able to run but if I try on the bare ground it will hurt. I decided to get the Life Fitness 9500HR that have really good impact cushion below the board. Getting a newer one since this is already burning after 10 long years! Extremely worth every penny.
Thanks for watching! Impact can be a huge factor. That's why it's so important to try before you buy, if possible. Wait, you WORE OUT a LifeFitness 9500HR treadmill??!! Was it preowned by the retired Sumo Wrestler Marathon Training Facility? If you did buy it used and intend to acquire another used quality machine - care to give us some tips on finding them? In any case - KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!
Excellent. Worth watching all the way and from my own research, you’ve touched on many of the most important points including checking the BBB (i agree that Icon/Nordic Track/Proform which are the same company have horrible after sales support and who wants that hassle. Same for Horizon at the least. Thus far, I love my Precor (TRM223) and worth the extra few dollars over those flashy cheap units.
Thanks Robert. I hope you keep a log of your mileage and hours on your Precor. Ialso have a section where I can make comments. It's fantastic for a quick reference, potential maintnence clues, etc. I have only heard good things about Precor so I have a hunch it will serve you well for years!
How would you recommend purchasing a treadmill during quarantine? I’m so lost and have been going back and forth for the past week. So your video helped a lot!
Much of the research remains the same as in the video: Research brands (I highlighted some on the video) and then check their reputations by reading their reviews and complaints on the Better Business Bureau's website. While I notice the BBB's rating, I temper that with the reviews and complaints. I don't put much stock in reviews on Amazon or big box stores. Many times the consumer hasn't really hasn't used their equipment enough to make a comprehensive judgement. They're also invested in their decision to purchase that brand/model. Here's an example (and shameless plug) for my "verdict" of the warranty replacement I received: th-cam.com/video/I_GArk9ZuAM/w-d-xo.html I waited until I had over 500 miles on the equipment before making a final recommendation. I actually rushed an earlier version, simply because of a safety issue I discovered. Hopefully, there's a brick and mortar store somewhere within your range to visit, that is open. Call ahead and ask if you may try out the ones you're interested in. If there aren't any...well, you may have to go on your research and gut instinct. Try not to get too discouraged. This is a great opportunity to further your fitness goals. I wish you much success in your fitness journey - Thanks for watching!
Buck Rogers 2000 Wow, thank you so much for you thorough response. I really appreciate it! I will definitely take your advice and do all of the research you suggested. I originally had a few I was leaning towards but your video made me second guess them. lol Unfortunately, there are no stores open since my entire state is only open for essential business. But that also means I have more time to research! Thanks again! I really appreciate it. :)
Do you know any decent brand in Austria or Germany? I can not find NordicTrack nor Sole here and I hate living in Europe..please help you great American man, God bless the Mr. George Washington. Now I realize and see.. I say this from the bottom of my heart. I spend days and days searching for NordicTrack or Sole or any other decent brand for treadmills inn Austria and all I find are on order Chinese manufactured treadmills for brands such as Adidas which just order it to be made for Godssake so that they can show it they have it and sell a few pieces.... I am so frustrated living in this God forsaken contient with extremely high tariffs so all stuff is more expensive and best brands always bypass this Godforsaken ***hole.
Ah, so young, handsome and successful...and SMART...perhaps a little impatient. Yeah, Europe is a slightly different perspective. My recommendation is to visit ANY gym where they have treadmills. Inquire what brands they have and decide among them. YES, it WILL be expensive. However, like I state in the beginning of the video - A treadmill CAN IMPROVE THE VERY QUALITY OF YOUR LIFE! At your (apparent) age, you will get decades of relatively trouble free operation. It will be worth it...wait for it...in the LONG RUN ;) I wish you MUCH success and Thanks for watching!
Oh, was Woodway one of the manual treadmills you considered? They seem to have a viable model or two. They are in Germany. www.treadmillreviews.net/woodway-treadmill-review/#:~:text=The%20company's%20global%20headquarters%20are,USA%2C%20Germany%2C%20and%20Japan.
I wish you much success, on your fitness journey. Once you have your new treadmill, this link may help you get started: th-cam.com/video/s8cqvZPdC-o/w-d-xo.html
It all depends upon where the manufacturer has replacement parts or not. I recommend inspecting the unit yourself, first. Try to isolate the problem and give the manufacturer a call.
Darn it.. I JUST purchased a Nordic Track T 6.5S and didnt know the info about the horse power and roller size. I planned to use it for jogging/walking. Upon looking at the specs, roller size is 1.9 inches and the motor is 2.6CHP. Guess I better go cancel that... 😭 Thank you so much for this info!
Mari, thanks for watching! I would DEFINITELY check out the BBB's website too. FWIW, I wouldn't even purchase a Landice L7. They have a pretty good reputation but the roller and belt size make me dubious. 'Course, we always take a bit of a gamble regardless...
@@BuckRogers2000 good to know, thank you so much again, you saved me! I couldn't afford to get a dud. I can barely afford one at all, so I need it to last me a while!
Cool tip about checking mileage! I’ve put 418hr and 2173mi on my Nordic Track C900! I’m a bit disappointed in my Average speed but I guess slow warm ups and cool offs will do that 😩. If you’re in the market... I think it’s around 7years old. I’ve stuck around 170lb most of that time and I usually run 3mi in a session. I’ve only done a couple half marathons on it. I did just replace the belt a few months ago. Also the screws snapped in one of the rear feet a while back. Otherwise it seems to be holding up 👍.
That's AWESOME! Unfortunately, the method doesn't work anymore for checking mileage and hours on new models. It has to be done manually as far as I know. That's another reason to keep a paper log. I'd recommend doing some research, for when your treadmill does finally give up the ghost. My Epic T40 is in mothballs, due to a component that they no longer manufacture. I received a Proform Smart Pro 5000 as a warranty replacement. So far, it's holding up pretty well (a little over 400 miles/100 hours so far). Keep up the excellent work!!
Thanks @buck great honest review at last, I think I am going to spend the bigger bucks "pun intended" and get the Spirit 385, it looks like it can last the distance and has larger rollers although only 2.5 inch they are bigger than others and 3.5hp motor. I only jog a bit and mostly power walk and weigh only 150lbs so I think it will do the job.
@Craig, with your weight and fitness habits the odds are in your favor. I would reinforce visiting the Better Business Bureau's report on Spirit, to be on the safe side. I wish you continued success on your fitness journey!!!
My general OPINION is no. Remember, I'm just an individual who has a lot of experience with running on treadmills and owning three (over time). When I reviewed my current treadmill (Proform Smart Pro 5000), I discovered it has "roller runaway" at steep inclines. Although rated for 300 pounds, my 225 pound body is too much for the inexpensive motor to accommodate...and my treadmill accelerates simply from my weight. My prediction on your chosen machine is you get it and use it religiously...but it dies somewhere around the 200 mile point. I had one, I know. Companies have made a tidy profit, producing "budget conscious" treadmills. They scrimp on everything and anything they can. It's a business right? Many times, consumers have their "Display" treadmill, to let everyone know they're fit. This works fantastic for that intended use. I wouldn't trust one to hold up for any serious length of time of use. I stand by my recommendations in the video. I honestly think a treadmill should be a sizeable investment you shouldn't scrimp on. If you want to save, cut down on the gimmickry that is prevalent nowadays. See if the manufacturer has options with more horsepower or wider/longer decks vs. "Expert" trainer videos or interactive content. The more complicated your machine, the more likely problems will occur. Make certain you visit the Better Business Bureau, to see what others are saying about the company that produces the unit you're interested in. Regardless which manufacturer you choose, this is MY truth. Good luck!!
They're intriguing, that's for sure. It boils down to engineering. Until a company has been in business awhile, I'm leery. If I was forced to make a choice on a manual treadmill, I'd probably go with a Woodway Curve...I have zero experience with either treadmill though and can't make any recommendations.
Maya - We live in Northern Utah. You're right, it is BEAUTIFUL. I wrote the script during the previous Winter, when outdoor running is less comfortable. I didn't have time to shoot the video until Spring. Thanks for watching!!!
@@BuckRogers2000 Thanks for replying. I believe you all have cold Winters so you're right. Thanks for the video I found it very helpful with my treadmill journey.
Yes! Maya , Colorado does look like that and even more beautiful throughout the year. Our majestic mountains are gorgeous as you drive almost anywhere, and especially as you go West on I-170 and on other different highways and roadways as well. Living here is so like being on vacation all of the time.
lol... nice video. Could you recommend a few treadmills for someone who wants to walk for a few hours while working at a standing desk? Having the ability to run on same treadmill would be nice too. What do you think about manual/magnetic treadmills? I got to run on a curved treadmill at the gym and it was awesome but it costs like $3,500 new. :(
Kelvin, Look at my reply just below. I can't give an honest comprehensive answer. I'm just like you, only anal in my observations. I will say that paying more for the right treadmill may pay dividends for decades to come. $3500.00 is a lot of money but you're worth it, right?
Looks like in US it's a price of a decent used car, or a small new one. I never owned a treadmill and I though these things are like 200 EUR for a basic one. I was shocked to learn about the prices. Very expensive ones go up to about 2500 EUR here, and in the US upwards of 5000 USD? Mind blown. I would barely be able to afford one at cca. 600 EUR (I just want to walk) but then I found out the belt width is only 43 cm so I abandoned the whole search. In Europe everything is small and shitty. Looks like I'll die fat.
First of all, thanks for watching! I have a little bit of good news. If you intend to only walk, you will probably get away with an inexpensive treadmill. Just make certain to examine the structural components to ensure it's not going to fall apart on you. I never really saw (and I was looking) for durable treadmills in either Aisa or Europe. The market should be ripe for some entrepreneurs to start their own product line. Lastly, IMHO, we place too much emphasis on body image. I've been running for over 39 years and I ain't skinny yet. I AM fairly fit and a happy camper. Fitness induces confidence and contentment. My recommendation is for you to plan for your fit future. Set some REALISTIC goals. Obviously, you don't have a treadmill but it's Summer. I'd start by figuring out where you may safely walk outside, including social distancing protocols. Since you're not running, wearing a mask should be considered. If you take one thing in my reply to heart - DON'T GIVE UP!!!
yep!!! SAME PROBLEM!!! I literally HATE living here! I wish America would just annex our little crappy countries and give us all 0 tariffs and all the amendments please!!!!! I spend 5 days finding a decent treadmill and all brands are local shitty brands which have no name nor tradition and they only just order these things to be made by 1 big giant manufacturer in China. 1 Company delivers whatever they ordered and draw. No quality nor tradition.. so horrible!! I lost weight by simply skipping rope but I want a treadmill because it is so damn frekaing practical!!
Darn! I would like to mention, that two smart young men just out of college, built the Icon Health and Fitness empire. They started by building the crappy type of treadmills you mention. While their brands still have some issues, their market share is undeniable...perhaps someone, with a little capital from his 93,000+ subscibers, could start something???? I wish you MUCH success and please - NEVER GIVE UP!!! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icon_Health_%26_Fitness

Dameon, I don't do recommendations. Things change too much and it's a decision that needs to be made by you. Follow the guidance in the video and you'll have the best odds of making a good choice.
That is an impossible question to answer. There are too many unknown variables to consider. I recommend using the tips in my video, so you may determine what will be in YOUR best interest.
I moved my current treadmill twice, in the past 18 months. The first move was into a townhouse apartment. I elected to have my "living room" as my gym, as it was on the first floor. These things are big, bulky and heavy. You may incur damage to the treadmill or the door jam/walls. Much should depend upon your life's game plan. If you're planning on moving into a house later, it may be best to wait. As I mention in the video, find your "footprint". If you can't spare the space, join a gym. Thanks for watching!!!
Thanks for watching, Sean! I have never run on either model. When I was performing research, the BBB gave them an A or A+ and they didn't have any negative reviews or complaints. In my thumbnail for this video, the treadmill on the end is an L7. To be truthful, I was underwhelmed. It seemed too spindly to hold up to the likes of a generously proportioned middle-aged dude. That's without examining it thoroughly, so I'm basically talkin' out my tailpipe here. You seem fairly light so an L7 might work out for you. Good luck and keep running!!!
I got a 2.75 motor on mine. I have used the shit out of it. I pay to get the TLC for the motor. It has lasted 15 years. My fitness shop can not believe it. I think this company is not in business. How stable the company is... very important. Although I have used it hard with fast runs intermittently and long walks as well as walking lunges. I am pretty tiny. I only weigh 120-130. No one heavy uses it. Lol.
@Monica D. It is impossible to "know" if a treadmill is good for you, unless it meets the following conditions: 1. You have examined the recommendations in the video 2. You have acted upon those recommendations. 3. They meet all the criteria I set forth in the video. Even then there are no guarantees in life...but your odds of choosing the correct treadmill for you went up at least 100%. Maybe you'll produce a review of whatever brand you end up settling on. I wish you luck in your fitness journey.
Abdulaziz - No, I haven't even seen a Trueform or the original Woodway. Fascinating concept and I would LOVE an opportunity to try either one. Manual treadmills have been around forever. These are a huge leap forward though. My brief research on the Trueform indicates variable resistance...which may or may not be useful in the long run (pun intended). If you DO end up purchasing one of these types of treadmills, consider doing a comprehensive review of your own (after 500 miles or so). It's the best way for us consumers to support one another. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!! While there are no guarantees in life, you have the basic knowledge to put the odds in your favor. I would also recommend you invest just a little more reading - your owner's manual (after you make your purchase). It should tell you how to keep your unit in tip top shape and/or who to call if problems do occur. Good luck!!!
I perceive that ANYTHING is better than nothing. I also KNOW that starting any fitness journey is best when taken gradually. Factors like age, weight, body type, etc., should be taken into account. If you want to promote your health, critical thinking (exercise is great for this) and overall confidence - certainly. Perhaps you will push yourself, maybe not but getting started with a practical low impact regimen is wise. I wish you a FANTASTIC fitness journey - Thanks for watching! th-cam.com/video/s8cqvZPdC-o/w-d-xo.html
No disrespect Buck but what on earth are you eating to have a gut like that if your on your machine 100 mins at a time ! I only do 15-20 mins a time and I start to feel im losing weight with some general weight sets ! Good video and advice by the way , well done !!
Ian, my diet is fairly carbohydrate restricted and my sugar intake is limited to what's naturally in my food. I don't eat sugar candy, cookies, etc. I'm certain portion size comes into play but my portions are no different than most peoples. I suspect I'm a victim of genetics. I greatly favor my maternal side of the family. If you want to know what you'll look like in thirty years, look at your parents. That'll give you a pretty good clue. I've been running, weight lifting and controlling my diet for decades. My runs typically are now two hours long for a distance of around 8 miles (2 degree incline). My lifting routines are generally around 90 minutes. Hopefully, you'll be seeing an upcoming video "Weight lifting for the rest of us". I created this series as an example for others, like me. You don't have to have an appealing physique to use the gym. You're there to improve your fitness level and maybe look better in the process. While I may not be so lucky in one genetic aspect, I've been blessed in other regards: I've got a fairly good intellect, a wicked sense of humor and a touch of grit. Oh, I've got a super power - I'm a legend in my own mind. You wrote " I only do 15-20 mins a time and I start to feel im losing weight with some general weight sets !" - That's a taste of awesome, right there and I wish you great success. This also leads me to perceive you're just launching your fitness journey. If I could go back to your age right now, I would do the following differently: Monitor and limit my carbohydrate/sugar intake. Find alternatives to candies, cookies and crackers. I would definitely cut down on my potato dishes. One "secret" I have to being a legend in my own mind is that I don't allow myself to get too discouraged. Sometimes, I look at old photos of myself and say "Dang, I looked GOOD!" Good luck, Ian and THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!
Congratulations on your new treadmill! If I might suggest, I recommend getting the extended warranty. Icon Health & Fitness has their warranty division, UTS. I personally got mine for 6 years. I am saving up for my dream treadmill, while I utilize my warranty replacement Proform Smart Pro 5000. The warranty paid for itself.
Beautifully done. I will only recommend a TrueForm manual treadmill because that is what I have. My sister-in-law was looking to purchase something. I forwarded this video. Again, good work.
@@henrikbrmer6318 love it. I still run out doors when the weather is nice. I use it primarily in the winter or as part of a workout (mixing sprints with lifting), warming up prior to a workout, or if I just feel like running when its dark outside.
@@henrikbrmer6318 I work well for longer runs, short runs, walking, sprinting, and in my estimation, is untouchable for intervals. Whether you are doing a run/jog, walk/run or anything in-between, the TrueForm has true manual operation, therefore it responds immediately to your change in exertion. Whereas other manual treadmills use a flywheel to make it feel less like a manual and more assisted. Find a crossfit gym near you that has one. Just pay for a day pass and try it out. It takes some getting used to because it forces proper running form (forefoot strike) and because it feels so natural that your body gets confused that you aren't actually going anywhere. But once you find your confidence in the machine, I dont think you would be satisfied with anything else.
concept 2 rower waaaaaay better, costs $950, last forever, easily repairable, repairs are cheap when they do rarely happen, rower builds muscle and increases cardio.
One of my old commanders, Billie Lakes, used to say "I don't care what it is you choose to do, as long as it gets your heart rate up and you can do it consistently." If it works for you, who am I to judge? Thanks for watching!!!
Precor has cheap import models too, don't be fooled.. They don't give you the real quality until you go up the line. IF you want a quality U.S. Made treadmill check out Landice. They offer a lifetime parts warranty.
My wife had an Image treadmill (from Icon) and used the hell out of it for 10 years. for the last 5 years she had it, she ran 6 miles on it daily and our football player son ran it daily as well. He was running 3-5 miles per day on it. I ended up buying her a Sole treadmill and we gave the Image to a friend. They still use it (4 years later) pretty regularly. The 1 time we had an issue, we called Icon and they helped us recalibrate and sent us belt lube. No complaints. With the Sole, my only complaint was heavy it was when we moved and it came with us. We've had it for 2 years and it's had no problems either. Wife runs on the Sole every single day for 5+ miles and son runs on it for a few miles a few days a week. And my fat butt walks on it for a couple of miles every day.
Aha! An astute viewer, well played!!!! The answer is...I haven't yet. At this particular moment in time, I still lean towards LifeFitness. I DID acquire a new treadmill last year but it's a warranty replacement. You can view my "verdict" here: th-cam.com/video/I_GArk9ZuAM/w-d-xo.html
I'm guessing those treadmills are cheap units, like the kind you find in your local department stores. I can't stress enough that you get what you pay for. Look for the specifications I told you about in the video. They should be beefy enough to accommodate your weight...for years to come.
@@DR-br5gb AHA, the thot plickens!!! That, Ryan, should not be happening. I didn't want to get too deep into the purchased gym memberships (in this video) because they're not all created equal - even if they're the same franchise. Some owners take much better care of their equipment, some don't. My recommendtion is as follows: 1. Identify the issue to a staff member. Get his or her name. If they don't immediately investigate, see about getting a refund for your remaining membership. This is an unacceptable condition. 2. If necessary, get the Better Business Bureau involved. Make sure to document the unacceptable situation(s) and what YOU did to attempt to get it/them resolved. Leave appropriate feedback for those gyms on the BBB website, YELP, Google and any other social media platform you deem effective. 3. Either research and join a GOOD gym or, ahem, buy your own treadmill. 4. Please let us know how this turns out and which exact gyms that failed you and the brands of treadmills they employ. Oh- THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!
I watched your videos, thanks for sharing. I've actually visited Icon Health & Fitness treadmill factory, before it moved to China. I didn't take video while I was there though.
Fellow Utahn here, what is your take on Sole? I'm looking at the Sole F63 and I am a taller/bigger guy at 6'3 240 pounds. I would love to get the more expensive models but looking for a more budget friendly that can hold my weight and last. Thanks!
I don't have any experience with Sole equipment. There are only two reviews on the bbb.org website, both negative. I really couldn't say whether their products will hold up. With your physique, I would seriously consider financing with a reputable brand. It's what I will do, once my current treadmills/warranty are no longer viable. NO exercise company is altruistic but some make better products than others. I intend for my next treadmill to last me for the rest of my life. What brand will it be? I'm not certain. Companies have ups and downs. At the moment, Lifefitness seems to have a solid product. I used them for years while I was active duty (retired USAF). I've heard Precor makes a good treadmill but I've have used them only a few times. I don't know if it's feasible, or if Mr. Grau is willing but I would try giving him a call. He reviewed this video, before I published it. He has much more insight into the industry than I do. He played for the Dallas Cowboys for a while and used many different pieces of equipment for training. He's at California Home Fitness (310) 214-9100. Good luck!
@@BuckRogers2000 I ended up buying a proform pro 2000 3.5hp motor and 2.5in rollers. So far, it has been a great machine and I don't feel that it will break with my weight.
Elijah, I wouldn't if I were you. The fact is, all companies at those price points provide you the cheapest, weakest products they can possibly produce. What your goal is would be too much to expect from them. Now, I did see a Landice L7 at Scheel's a couple of weeks ago. They offer a pretty good warranty program and the unit's maximum user capacity is 400 lbs. The biggest issue is it's about $3400.00. If you're just beginning, I would recommend setting a more modest goal. You want this to be FUN, right? Please take a look at my other video, about learning to use your first treadmill: th-cam.com/video/s8cqvZPdC-o/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for sharing.I,got my treadmill around 3/7/20 .I,did some research. But,I wish I would of seen this video first.I,was aware about some features. But, not about the roller size.Good advice to know..Thank you.
Go to a specialty fitness retailer first. BBB is BS. as well as Consumer reports. A good treadmill doesn't need an extended warranty only the junky ones at department store or who have generic names. Trust me I've been in the business 25 years. I get tons of call from people who got suckered and need service. Guess what you're out of luck
Thanks for watching! The Better Business Bureau is good for the complaints and reviews. Their rating system is certainly suspect. You have to use what the consumers say to get an idea of the worth of the product. Consumer Reports kind of like ballistic gelatin - They're a baseline tool that may provide some guidance. Their testing criteria needs to be updated and improved. I agree that a specialty fitness retailer is a great place to check out...IF the staff are runners and know their stuff. Where we bought our LifeFitness elliptical, the staff didn't seem to have much first hand experience. The most knowledgeable guy I've had dealings with is Jeff Grau, the former Dallas NFL player. He has extensive time on a number of different brands, and insight into the industry.
Great! A lot depends upon how much you weigh and the stresses you subject your treadmill to. For instance, if you weigh 170 pounds and use your unit for walking, it might last 20 more years. The older models have less complicated consoles, therefore less to go wrong.
I'd be interested to know what brand/model your buddy had to pay $800.00 for a new console. A couple of my main recommendations are use the heck out of your new treadmill, while the initial warranty is in effect. This typically uncovers any defects. Another good idea is to turn off and unplug units when they're not being used.
Thanks for sharing your perceptive thoughts--in a humble and sincere way--here. Yes, I agree with your statement of not wasting the salespersons' time. THANKS, again!! :-)))
The best thing you can purchase, with that budget, is a gym membership. You also have the option of running or walking outdoors, while continuing to save additional funds. The only other option would be to actually watch my video, paying particular attention to the spot at 6:30.
@@BuckRogers2000 excellent video this common sense important 30 minute research can so easily forgotten when actually ready to pay. I was wondering, do you know any major stores or outlets that let let you test out multiple treadmills in store, like all lined up for you? Like say big 5? Dicks sporting goods, Costco or Any Special gym equipment specific store? Either mom and pop shop or major franchise?
@@seekdiscomfort4746 Your best bet is to look state-wide for fitness dealers. Big 5 and many others simply have plastic tags in the stores. I guess they're delivered(?) . Costco and Sam's Club typically have New Year's Resolution specials. They last about as long as the typical resolution does. Look for the dedicated fitness shops. I know my subject matter expert, listed at the end (former Dallas Cowboy) allows trials, at least he did...
I did not realize there was so many failures with treadmills, honestly I purchased a cheap walmart weslo cadence like 20 years ago, I finally put it on the curb, and it still worked... I weigh 220 lbs and I put quite abit of time on the treadmill, I never ran, only walked and jogged, no more then 6 MPH. I just picked up a Used Bowflex M5 Max Trainer for 500$, been pretty impressed with it! I think "Cheap" ellipticals are far worse then "Cheap" treadmills.
There are many, many variables at play. Every owner is different and utilizes their equipment uniquely. You, for instance used your Weslo in a gentle manner (mostly walking). I'm not surprised it lasted so long. Generally, older models of many brands are beefier than newer models. Because the electronics are/were simpler they may not encounter the problems newer machines have. At least some consumers may abuse their units and then complain when they fail. I perceive that at least one major manufacturer knowingly produces junk models. They take advantage of some consumers who don't perform their "due diligence" by researching BEFORE they buy. Good luck with your Bowflex and thanks for watching!!!
Until recently, I lived just 3 miles from their HQ. They have certainly come a long way, in the past few years. I would strongly suggest you check out their reviews and complaints on the Better Business Bureau's website (BBB.org). The BBB's rating system is suspect however, so take that with a grain of salt. I currently have a Proform Smartpro 5000, I got as a warranty replacement. It has a little over 1,000 miles on it and I've had the console replaced once. You can find my "verdict" here: th-cam.com/video/I_GArk9ZuAM/w-d-xo.html
Castra yes. I know. My treadmill only lasted 240 miles. Kept sending pieces without improvement so I threw my treadmill out for peace of mind. For walking I think any treadmill will do but when you do sprints a 3,000 treadmill is probably warranted.
Thanks for watching. I suspect other manufacturers will eventually have similar tragedies. I also hope parents become aware and keeps kids away from treadmills!
Yeah, I would LOVE to try a Woodway. I was checking out a model that can go up to like a 12% incline. One competitor (Peloton) has a similar belt but I heard one lady said it hurt her and her son's knees.
Thank you for your video here and you have some real information. I just want to add that the 4.0CHP is best AC BRUSHLESS. Torque is more important than HP as we can't get the full HP rating out of a 110V outlet.
Good video, but the days are gone where you go in, and comsumer reports aren't as popular as they used to be either, unless your watching them on youtube, and you dont have to deal with sales people, in stores anymore either, and better buisness bureau, lol hardly anyone uses that, most people use Home advisor, and amazon and youtube for reviews, now days, also allot of the stores in malls have turned into online stores/no name places. Other examples, that times have changed, Blockbuster, Toys R Us, Kmart, Sears, The only two places that you need to shop now days is Amazon and Walmart, except for refridgerators, washing machines, dishwashers, ovens/ appliances and riding lawnmowers, you could go to homedepos or bestbuys website, for that, and they deliver and install, and they will take your old junk off/refridgerator/washing machine. Sears did have potential, the biggest problem for me, was one, sears was always located in a mall and they didn't have groceries, if sears, moved out of the mall, to a good location, areas where theres nothing going on/ that dont have walmarts or electronic stores, but there are food restraunts, but walmarts still a little ways away, and Sears stocked groceries, I think they could make a huge come back/give walmart a run for there money, also bring the quality of there tools/ products back up, but also offer the chinese alternative as well, and also everyonce in a while wayfair is needed as well, also Ebay, for certain items, but 99.9 percent of the time Amazon and Walmart will be the only places you need to go/shop, and if you want house jobs done, Home advisor, is the place to go, anyway things have definitely changed. The estate sale option sounds good though, if you could figure out where one was being held. TH-cam and amazon reviews/reviewers, is a good place to figure all this out, look at weight limits as well, and read what other people are saying on amazon and once you find a few you like, go look for reviews on youtube or even get a gym memebership, or take some tours in some nice gyms, to see what treadmills they use, and try them out, most likely gyms aren't gonna stock machines that are gonna break down after 5mins of use/gyms are going to be buying equipment that lasts a long time, if there a nice gym anyway, go to one that has a pool, hot tub, massage machines, tanning beds, sanas, basketball courts and so on. Anyway I know that was allot, but I hope it helped someone, and things have definitely changed.
Matt, thanks for watching. Today we're faced with information overload. Literally millions of people voicing their thoughts...sometimes effectively, sometimes not so much. Your advice about paying attention to weight limits and visiting gyms to see what brands of machines is spot on. I have done this several times. However, in my experience, most of the online reviews on TH-cam, Amazon, etc. fall into three categories: 1. The companies' advertising divisions 2. Paid shills who actually know absolutely nothing about the machines they're hawking 3. Consumers who haven't actually used their machines for longer than a month. I'd encourage you to revisit the bbb online. It's not perfect but it's possible to get a good idea of a company's track record regarding customer satisfaction. I recommend paying the most attention to reviews and complaints. One huge fitness equipment manufacturer has somehow managed to garner an A+ rating, even though their reviews and complaints say otherwise. Not surprisingly, it happened after this video was released. I wonder whether you can guess which one it is. Choosing a treadmill on Amazon or any other online retailer is a HORRIBLE idea. You're asking for trouble. It would be like shopping for a couch, without testing it out, for comfort, size, color and such. That, plus you're almost guaranteed to recieve a damaged product. I stand by actively seeking out a brick and mortar store - with actual RUNNERS as salespeople. The reason why I recommend Jeff Grau (in my credits at the end of the video) so much is because he has so much experience using some of the equipment he sells. That information is priceless, when you want to get the most value for your money. Another HUGE PLUS is that if/when things go wrong, you have someone to help you navigate through the warranty repair/replacement process. I haven't run into a fitness manufacturer yet, where the customer service representatives know much about running. They will often let your calls slip their mind and you have to stay on them. Having someone in your corner is also priceless. Finally, when you find a fitness store (not Big 5, Scheels or any other big chain), wear your workout gear and be ready to try a few different treadmills out. Ask the salesperson if they run and if they've tried out the machines they're selling. PAY ATTENTION to what the tell you. You might pay a bit more but you stand a better chance to choose a treadmill that will last a lifetime. Matt, I appreciate your view and you giving me the opportunity to have this discourse - THANKS!! :)
The benefit to going to a brick and mortar store is trying before you buy. You might actually run into a professional in there you never know. You should check their reviews online. Find out if they will be able to deliver/service your equipment and if you will have no problem getting in touch with a customer service rep when you need help. It's more than just avoiding a salesperson. They can be a huge asset once you have this big hunk of metal in your home that you rely on for more years than a car. You can't do that on Amazon and you can't trust online reviewers to be in the exact same place you are in physically/mentally/financially to give you and accurate depiction of fitness equipment. So many reviews on the web for fitness equipment are paid and on affiliate sites anyway so how do you even trust what they are saying? It's the same with mattresses. Sadly, we need the BBB in this industry, and even pissedconsumer.com.
You forgot to mention, be a GREAT example to the young folks, at the gym. Keep up the great work!!
Outstanding - Maintaining your treadmill is vital. Thanks for watching and sharing!
As an Ultra Runner mid pack and has to go to work on Monday- I love the treadmill. No injuries in years
Hopefully, no injuries in the coming decades - KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!
This is the best video ever! Its very much to the point and doesnt waste time stating the obvious! Thanks!

Thanks for the info: 4hp motor min, and large rollers for long longevity, good to know when buying, great video!
As long as you're able to keep your heart rate in the appropriate zone (fat burning or aerobic), who am I to criticize?
🙌🏻
Treadmills give me the luxury of running with nothing but my boxers and sports shoes something ill never be able to do in a gym or around the area i live which is near a pre school, a church and an Apple store.
I can't say I've ever tried only boxers or briefs, when running. Indoors or out. Who am I to judge, as long as it works for you. KUDOS!
yea i am looking for treadmill also, but sadly most I see in my budget range is like 1.25 or 1.75 HP motor... and goes up to 1-16 Km/H, also all brands I see are relatively unknown...
You are most welcome! While there are no guarantees in life, you're armed to make an informed decision. Thanks for watching!!
@@TopTierFive007 Holy Cow, I'm sorry for your troubles. I hope it gets ironed out!!

1.28? Miles, kliks? Oops, nevermind. The restroom proximity. Good luck with your new treadmill!!
Yes buy a warranty. I used it like crazy and saves you money. Lots of money. UTS technology is a good one.
Good luck!
What are your thoughts about Sole Fitness specifically their higher end models F85, TT8 and TT9? Did you ever get to try those?
God Bless You I can't thank you in off for the best advice super helpful.
Thanks Emma - I wish you many decades of safe, effective treadmill exercise!!!

You have the right idea and motivation. I cannot stress how much music has helped me, while not distracting me from my purpose.
I would also recommend registering it and investing in their warranty program. It paid for itself when my EPIC T40 had a irreplaceable part - I got a free new treadmill.
Buying used treadmill. Thanks for mileage tip!
Be discriminating and check the power plug - Good luck!
Thank you for your presentation. Good info, and presented with good humor.

Which treadmill are you getting or got I want to buy one aswell
But how do you know when the tread mill has to be replaced completely rather than servicing it?
Josh Schroeder you don’t run much, do ya? Start putting in 600 mi/yr like a real man.

Buck, is a treadmill w/a weight capacity of 350 ok for a walker who weighs 300? I'm looking at Tr*e.
Good luck!!
Any opinions on manual treadmills like assault? Longevity would appear to be better on those.
They're intriguing, that's for sure. It boils down to engineering. Until a company has been in business awhile, I'm leery. If I was forced to make a choice on a manual treadmill, I'd probably go with a Woodway Curve...I have zero experience with either treadmill though and can't make any recommendations.
Fantastic advice Rogers, greetings from Brazil
Obrigado, Bom Dia!!!! Thanks for watching!!!!
Where do you live in Colorado? If I seen all that beautiful scenery outdoors everyday I would just jog outside
Thank you for this straightforward guide.
You bet, thanks for watching!
lol...
I wish you MUCH success and please - NEVER GIVE UP!!!

what low budget treadmill can you recommend? max 500 euros / dollars
That is an impossible question to answer. There are too many unknown variables to consider. I recommend using the tips in my video, so you may determine what will be in YOUR best interest.
Save your money. You won’t be able to get anything solid with that money.
You got me at “sphincter alert” 🚨😂😂 any tips for getting a treadmill and living in an apartment
Nice video. would you recommend the Landice L7 & L8?
Lol.
You're a very wise individual, maintaining it that way. Do you employ an incline, while running? Thanks for watching!!
Hilarious! 😂 Very entertaining but informative.
Do you happen to know if Asuna treadmill is any good?
1:43 I knew I recognized that set of businesses and the mountains in the background, I live there. Haha
excellent guide. have you made a review of trueform treadmills?
Abdulaziz - No, I haven't even seen a Trueform or the original Woodway. Fascinating concept and I would LOVE an opportunity to try either one. Manual treadmills have been around forever. These are a huge leap forward though. My brief research on the Trueform indicates variable resistance...which may or may not be useful in the long run (pun intended).
If you DO end up purchasing one of these types of treadmills, consider doing a comprehensive review of your own (after 500 miles or so). It's the best way for us consumers to support one another. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video (btw at 1:33...I see a bathroom right behind you :) )

very helpful, thanks. I am terrified of buying a 'lemon'.
Is 30 mins walking on treadmill enough?
I perceive that ANYTHING is better than nothing. I also KNOW that starting any fitness journey is best when taken gradually. Factors like age, weight, body type, etc., should be taken into account. If you want to promote your health, critical thinking (exercise is great for this) and overall confidence - certainly. Perhaps you will push yourself, maybe not but getting started with a practical low impact regimen is wise.
Sometimes, I look at old photos of myself and say "Dang, I looked GOOD!"
Good luck, Ian and THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!

How do you like the true form runner/trainer.
@@henrikbrmer6318 love it. I still run out doors when the weather is nice. I use it primarily in the winter or as part of a workout (mixing sprints with lifting), warming up prior to a workout, or if I just feel like running when its dark outside.
@@FirstNameLastName-gb8pg how is it fore long slow runs?

Happy to help!
And my fat butt walks on it for a couple of miles every day.
holy crap at sole fitness's BBB rating :O was just about sold on them before I looked!!
Which treadmill are you getting???
vabvaab Sole was a nightmare. It died in two months and customer service horrid.
I was about to buy a used sole for $900 .... I think I'll keep shopping!
So what did you buy?
I think I am going to go with the Sole S77
Theodore - Please feel free to let us know how it works out. Either as a reply or make your own video...after you've had some time to evaluate it.
I'm 240lbs. The belt literally stops with each step on most treadmills.
I'm guessing those treadmills are cheap units, like the kind you find in your local department stores. I can't stress enough that you get what you pay for. Look for the specifications I told you about in the video. They should be beefy enough to accommodate your weight...for years to come.
@@BuckRogers2000 I have the same problem at both LA Fitness and Anytime Fitness so I don't know
@@DR-br5gb AHA, the thot plickens!!! That, Ryan, should not be happening. I didn't want to get too deep into the purchased gym memberships (in this video) because they're not all created equal - even if they're the same franchise. Some owners take much better care of their equipment, some don't. My recommendtion is as follows:
4. Please let us know how this turns out and which exact gyms that failed you and the brands of
treadmills they employ.

I picked up a used Sole F80 for $500. 3.5 HP motor. I use it several times per week. I've had it for about 5 years. No problems.
I’ve had great luck with a Sole F80.

I'm 300lbs and only want to do power walking (4.35 mph) for 120mins a day on a treadmill. Will I "get away with purchasing from a big box store"

What kind did you get
Go to a specialty fitness retailer first. BBB is BS. as well as Consumer reports.
I have used a junky $600 Proform for 20 years my buddy buys name brand expensive treadmills and constantly has $800 repairs, mostly electronics....
Great! A lot depends upon how much you weigh and the stresses you subject your treadmill to. For instance, if you weigh 170 pounds and use your unit for walking, it might last 20 more years. The older models have less complicated consoles, therefore less to go wrong.
agreed like these new cars with the latest tech, great until it breaks
I'd be interested to know what brand/model your buddy had to pay $800.00 for a new console. A couple of my main recommendations are use the heck out of your new treadmill, while the initial warranty is in effect. This typically uncovers any defects. Another good idea is to turn off and unplug units when they're not being used.

What are your thoughts on icon health and fitness treadmills?
Until recently, I lived just 3 miles from their HQ. They have certainly come a long way, in the past few years. I would strongly suggest you check out their reviews and complaints on the Better Business Bureau's website (BBB.org). The BBB's rating system is suspect however, so take that with a grain of salt.
I currently have a Proform Smartpro 5000, I got as a warranty replacement. It has a little over 1,000 miles on it and I've had the console replaced once. You can find my "verdict" here: th-cam.com/video/I_GArk9ZuAM/w-d-xo.html
Stay away from nordictrack brands I had ACT Commercial elliptical and do maintenance myself internals are cheap plastic for such an expensive machine.
Castra yes. I know. My treadmill only lasted 240 miles. Kept sending pieces without improvement so I threw my treadmill out for peace of mind. For walking I think any treadmill will do but when you do sprints a 3,000 treadmill is probably warranted.

self propelled treadmills are the best and last the longest. only downside is they are so expensive.
Yeah, I would LOVE to try a Woodway. I was checking out a model that can go up to like a 12% incline. One competitor (Peloton) has a similar belt but I heard one lady said it hurt her and her son's knees.
The prices are insane. I don't know how they justify them,
Thank you for your video here and you have some real information. I just want to add that the 4.0CHP is best AC BRUSHLESS. Torque is more important than HP as we can't get the full HP rating out of a 110V outlet.
Sarah, you are 100% correct, thanks for watching!
Great stuff! This is very helpful. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this amazing video you made me laugh for the day!!! Priceless XD
However, in my experience, most of the online reviews on TH-cam, Amazon, etc. fall into three categories:
1. The companies' advertising divisions
2. Paid shills who actually know absolutely nothing about the machines they're hawking
