You kept those passengers from getting hit by that red SUV that came blowing through the stop. Passengers on your tram are definitely in very safe, capable hands. Great job, sir.
One of the best videos of yours I like. Awesome and great job. You are a great driver. So courteous and kind. I am working on seeing all your videos. What a wonderful city to live in. Thanks for showing it to me and everyone. I will never get a chance to see it any other way. I am so addicted now to driver view cab rides on and trams and trains. Safe travels ahead. God bless
Having been raised in Preston Melboune as well as my young adult years, the 86 was the closest and most used line for me. I still use it occasionally when visiting the folk to in. I have always wondered why the 86 retains the older style trams and hasn't been changed to the more modern low floor trams?
According to me, trams are a waste of an idea. They can be replaced with double or triple decker buses or articulated buses, and can run anywhere even if there are no tracks.
So, finally, after two years watching and admiring your stuff, you'll be pleased to know I've subscribed...it's the only way I can keep up with what you upload! Don't you ever sleep?
Thanks for the sub! I've got a large back catalogue which I'm starting to upload which helps with the channel as I don't have lots of time to get out these days.
I normally stay in Preston. It takes quite a bit of time to get to and from the city. So, I catch the train from Bell station instead. Thanks for sharing the video. Cheers.
@@Schony747 I imagine most tram routes aren't designed for long commutes. They're most suited for relatively short hops. Enjoying these videos and seeing how my old stomping grounds have changed
I thought this was an update for this year, not from last year. Still though, I love this tram video very much (Route 86 is my favorite). The longer the tram ride, the better for me :-)
Another treat, not only seeing more of Melbourne but also the antics of the public there. You handle situations well. You've driven so many different routes. Did you request them or were they assigned to you? I would imagine that many drivers prefer to drive the same route all the time, though I'd find that boring.
The route 86 is a Preston route also shared by hub drivers who drive 11 routes. I'm a Southbank driver who sometimes drives hub routes to get these opportunities. Southbank has 4 routes but 4 classes of trams so it's not boring.
I used to get idiots like that guy swearing all the time on London Underground when I was a driver on there. Glad to see it didn't affect your concentration. Do you get many like that?
The old route went Bourke Street to Tyler Must say, between the Shamrock on Plenty and Collingwood on Smith, ive smashed the frothies in all pubs in-between Then u would take me back to Shakespeare Ave Preston Driver thanks a ton.
Why to visit melb when we can see through your cam 😂. Although wonderful video and am visiting melb in January, day by day level of excitement is increasing cheers.
1:08:50 I have always wondered what the hell is that little dangly thing that is located on the light post and has a string dangling out of it. In this case it is located just above the red T light on the pole on the left.
A timing point for trams. In this case it picks up the tram location and send location data. If this timing point was for government reporting purposes, there would be two orange bands underneath the mushroom shaped timing point.
Yes, they have a button that they can use to report to the terminal where the base is for the line they travel. The base then calls the Police if the problem requires them.
Great video, love trams/streetcars/trolleys!! Too bad I had to mute it in the beginning because of that loud and completely obnoxious "fucking idiot." That clown should have been removed from the tram since he apparently did not take notice of the signage above the tram doors that read: "Sorry, no fucking idiots allowed on board."
Hey, just love to say that I love you tram videos and the funny thing is I live off the route 86. Good job for keeping the passengers safe at David st. Have you seen the new tracks on plenty road between Murray rd and bolderwood pde, how often do you drive the route 86. Huge fan!!
G'day. I'm a tram driver from Southbank. I've been there for 18 years. I don't drive the 86 that often as that route runs out of Preston. Every so often they let me out of my cage and send me to other depots.
@@planetX15, the longest route is Vermont south Shopping Centre which is 22.8 km (14.2 miles) long. Route 86 is the second longest at 22.2 km (13.8 miles) long.
@@Schony747 Longer than 120 seconds?! What the hell? I would lose it. A tram shouldn't have to wait at all, the newer trams can carry over 200 people, the average car occupancy rate in Aus is only 1.3 passengers per vehicle!
Great vid thanks for sharing, great handle with the sick guy. You can tell you see a lot of life at that job, 1 crazy isn't so bad for a bunch of chill folks!
It may have been but up until a few weeks ago I really hadn't had a good look a the footage. The other issue is it's a front on view so without any witnesses the defence would argue you could not tell if an offence had been commited or not.
Schony747 i wish that was the case in New York city transit. I video taped myself operating my train in May of 2016. I posted it and the next day i was taken out of service pending termination. I now clean train station.
Another great advertisement for visiting Oz from the bonehead "compo claim" nutter.....do these dimwits never appreciate, they sound like every worse thing on the planet rolled into one! Interesting video overall......thanks!

+Jim197275 You should see the 59 to Airport West. It's like a Grand Prix Track.
Love the video. I had the chance of riding on that route a couple of times while in Melbourne last year. Really miss this amazing city!

finally my favorite tram route!
A long one but a good one. Thanks for watchng again.

Thanks for your kind words. If you haven't checked out route 11 have a look. That's one of my favourites.
That was a treat, you should do more of these. Greetings from America :)

This was filmed in 2016. In 2018 I would say half the 86 trams are now low floor.

Do you have a silent emergency button for situations like the drug addict that got on your tram at the start of the video?
i do not know
the button would get a big workout on the 57

Lovely route. I must ride it next time I am there.
It's quite a long route at 21kms but it gives you a diverse view of Melbourne.
is this THE longest tram route in Melbourne, if it isn't, what is?

I take the Southern Cross to Bundoora stop 62 when I go to Melbourne
Do you take a book? It can be a long ride at times.
Schony747 I forgot a book this time 😒. Bundoora 62 to S-cross, train to Wodonga
01:08:28 that's insane, this tram had to wait almost 120 seconds at this intersection!

I use this tram a lot know every stop
It's an interesting ride with interesting people. 😀😀
How'd you get this if you work in the Southbank Depot?
+TotallyNotDerfy I also do hub tables which run the Preston lines as well
I will move there if i could work your tram system. I am a former train operator in NYC.
+Robert M. I'm still pretty happy after 15 years. The train operator job would have been an interesting gig.
Schony747 it was. I am nof a train operator anymore. I explained why i am not i am not now. I am in my 23rd year with tranit. It was a great gig.

We started underground subway.
You can see that lunatic's number plate quite easily, was he reported and did the police charge him/her?
Wasn't reported. Unless I have witnesses, it's hard to get a prosecution.
I would've thought dash cam footage would've been enough. Oh well, hopefully karma catches up with him.

Nope. No one worries about it if you do your job properly.

I don't agree with the Bundrooah lightrail portion of the route, trams shouldn't be used that way or go that far afield.
Try telling that to people who don't have a decent train and bus service. I'd be surprised if it gets extended any further.
A very very typical tram ride in Melbourne 😂 who's cocky?
Yeah the usual mix of characters and lots of traffic on rhe 86 😀

He was pretty harmless and didn't cause any hastles. Thanks for taking a look anyway.
Don't sniff all the time if you are recording. It's so annoying
That's fair enough. I must have had a cold that day and as I don't drive the 86 very often, I have to film when I get the opportunity.
