Wonderful review Jason. Now let's hope we can get this bottling in the States. My favorite Glenlivet was the 16 year old Nadurra (I still have a couple of bottles stashed away). I also enjoy the 12 First Fill and the 18.
My favourite distillery bottling of Glenlivet was the 16 year ex-bourbon Nadurra - Excellent and you could buy it in a supermarket for a good price just a few years ago. I've also had some excellent indie bottlings. Glenlivet are a top producer and capable of the finest whisky but they are also a mega commercial interest producing stuff for the general market. I understand their situation.
The Illicit Still made it to Australia, Jason. All sold out now. One store was even selling it for AUD$62, which is about what you'd pay for the (seriously bland) 40% NAS Founder's Reserve! This is a solidly enjoyable Glenlivet. It even showed some Scotch mist.
I absolutely love this and have many bottles, was able to purchase in Australia at crazy prices below what the standard 12 usually goes for. For me there's also a lemon sherbet thing going on. Thanks for posting the review.
Not sure if this is in the US ? Recently got a Glenlevit 12 first fill ex bourbon 43.2% that I enjoyed. Luckily a store near me has it for $35. Cheers Jason
It has surfaced here in the Northeast US, but availability is spotty, as far as I can tell. I picked one up for $62 at Total Wine - which was probably too much. But the only other store with it was a 2 hour round trip to NH and back.
I've avoided Glenlivet as its plagued with mediocrity. But the illicit still made all the right noise so I bought one a few weeks ago. €66 here in Ireland!,so you got a bargain!. I am pleasantly surprised by it enough to give the brand another look for other offerings. This is the direction they need to go.
This is the first time I've watched one of your reviews. I'm a little confused, it seems that you like this Single Malt, yet only gave it a C+ rating. I'll need to watch more of your reviews so I understand the context of your rating system.
Glenlivet has not done it for me for a good long time... I really got turned off by their Founder's Resrerve and Capatian's Reserve expressions, and then when I got back to some Nadurra expressions, I found them to be mostly one dimensional, and two dimensional at best... Feh.
I hear you Quig The Nadurra 16 year expressions were a different thing all together. I've had fine indi as well. Yep, they are are a massive money concern and folks like us are not a concern but Glenlivet makes great distillate and can produce top quality.

Totally agree lorenz. The Nadurra ex-bourbon 16, commonly available, was superb.

I used to enjoy the 18 yo back in the day, now I have ordered 2 of the illicit still online for 35 euro and hope it is as enjoyable as many claim.
I liked it and the price is right
I will give it a serious tasting soon, and will leave a short review.
Great content ! Thanks for the info !
