  • Kodak Portra 800 is great for Shooting Waves at Sunrise because of its high ISO that results in fast shutter speeds. In this awesome video, I shoot one 120 roll Kodak Portra 800 for landscape photography on on the west coast of New Zealand. My camera of choice for this video is my Hasselblad 503CW, which is a medium format film camera, it has interchangeable film backs and it makes 6 x 6 square format images. I use my 150mm CFE lens to shoot close ups of the waves.
For my video camera, I use the new Panasonic Lumix S5 with the kit S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 Lens.

To go out in nature by the beach, forest, mountains or lakes is good for the soul and so relaxing. To combine that with photography is the icing on the cake.

@@StephenMilner Sort of... but my work takes me far and wide so I have extra privileges and also extra precautions so it's all good. Here it's chaos and mayhem so your calm focus on what really matters is such a welcome gift. Stay safe and keep one creating!

Breathtaking shots right from the start. Well done Stephen, awesome work. Was out there a couple of weeks ago but came away very disappointed. More about me than the conditions to be fair.

Great Vlog, pretty risky stuff with a camera as valuable as a Hasselblad so close to water and rocks, great images and wonderful location thanks

Thanks Tony. It was a low incoming tide so not to risky. Thanks for watching!

Hi Stephen, great photos. How do you find sharpness to be handheld with the 503cw? I purchased one with the 50mm cfi lens and I'm wondering if sharpness can be achieved handheld (and enough so to do larger prints), and if so what tips would you give regarding shutter speed and/or any other advice? Thank you. - Frank

Yes, it can achieve sharp photos handheld with the correct technique. Do a search on how to hold a hasselblad film camera. The camera should sit in the palm of left hand and the index finger operates the shutter release. Right hand focuses. When hand holding, make sure your shutter speed is x2 the focal length or faster.

Out of curiosity, have you sold you mamiya 7? I can understand why you wanted to switch to an SLR setup for landscape (filters and whatnot). I might be in the market to buy if you are selling, lol!
