- If you like slide film, minimalistic landscape photography and 4wd adventures in sand dunes then this is the video for you. Todays video is a vlog that I made in January when I did a trip to the far north of New Zealand with my old Hasselblad 503cw medium format film camera. I spent three days travelling around the far north exploring the amazing sand dunes in this area with the intention of making some minimal fine art landscape photography. I hope you like film photography and some 4wd overlanding because this video is a true adventure.

For my video camera, I use the new Panasonic Lumix S5 with the kit S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 Lens.

Videos/examples like this really prove the importance of lighting. Yes you have two excellent film stocks, but environment is stunning - it's a combination of natural light that is ver difficult to come across and a landscape that is able to absorb/reflect the sky. It's almost dream-like.
Loving your van set up & WOW,absolutely stunning sand dune images, fantastic work Stephen 👌👌
Thank you 🙏
Thank you, beautiful pictures
Great video mate love that shot at 6:57 cracking frame. Never been further north than Auckland but pretty keen to check it out. Good luck with the 5k target I reckon the way the chans going you might even go well past 5k 📷📷📷
Sorry I missed the trip with you Stephen. Looks like a stunning place! Good vid mate! ewan
Thanks mate, I did this trip back in January. I will be going again and will give you a shout.
Cheers from the mountains of Colorado. Really great video, and I very much enjoyed the simplicity and style of your photos. Keep up the great work 👍

Beautiful light in those photos, especially the photo at 7:52

I've just been gifted a few rolls of Astia, I plan to run them through my Hasselblad. You're images are inspiring for me as I've never shot Astia before, will give it a go...
Nice. Shoot as normal and expect colour shifts. Good luck
This is great - are you still making videos?
Very enjoyable. Loved the images and had me scouring the web for expired Astia!
I hope you find some and enjoy enjoy using it!

Great content and awesome photos as always 👍

Anyone know what tripod/tripod head hes using in this?
Great work. I miss living in NZ. I noticed you are using a Leofoto tripod and head - would you mind saying which model tripod? Thanks.
Just found your gear list. Thanks. Looking forward to future videos.
Thank you. I’ve been really happy with the tripod so far. Thanks for watching!!
Really enjoying the content mate. I’ve never shot slide film before but I picked up a roll of velvia recently and you might have just encouraged me to pluck up the courage to get out and shoot it!
Thanks mate. I’m sure you will be fine with it.
beautiful images, stephen!
Thank you, Bijan
A P.S. ~ I love photos of sand dunes, both colour and bw but I honestly think that 4 of yours - the Astia shots from day 1 - are probably the most beautiful shots of dunes I’ve seen.
Thank you!
@@StephenMilner No worries! Well deserved. Brilliant photography. Cheers.
Awesome, how were you lucky enough to end up in NZ ?
Thank you 🙏 I moved here 8 years ago…
Lovely work. I hate to be the guy asking about gear, but I couldn't help noticing that tripid head - is that the Leofoto G2? I've been looking at it it myself, but there's a relatively small amount of material out there on it. How have you found it to use? Any trouble with the range of movement on it?
Thank you 🙏 The G2 works well and is good for micro adjustments. It doesn’t have the same range of movement as a ball head. For landscapes it works well.
@@StephenMilner Thanks for the the reply! I was thinking it would be fine for landscapes, yes, and one could add a simple low-profile two-way head underneath it for the full range if necessary, as I believe the G2 has an Arca Swiss base.
Cool, I had the Leofoto levelling base underneath it for extra movement.
Was the film expired ? Cold stored?
Expired and stored in a fridge
Great stuff mate, but I have two questions: 1) Why are your shooting landscapes with a portrait slide film? 2) Where can I buy Astia? 🤣
Thanks 🙏 Because it has soft tones, I haven’t used it before and was interested in it. I bought mine off eBay.
