Also, add a row of drills above the 8 you have and a row below. Always make your drill "footprint" larger than the ship. It means less damage to your ship when you're mining. Edit: Spelling
Also you can use connectors as attachment point for your tools, so you don’t have to put any on the ship, connect and ramp up the magnetic pull on the connectors ( you could make the whole thing spin with a rotor underneath the connector, or attach large grid tools and ore detector on a small grid ship, unlimited possibilities! You can think way outside the box on this game 😅
Ship name: Yet Another Mega Ore Miner. "Come in S.H.A.G.G.E.R. base, this is Storme ship 7 requesting permission to land." "Sorry Storme ship 7, Y.a. M.o.m. is currently docked and being serviced by our finest."
You are going to want "downward" thrusters. Any roll you do ends up with zero thrust in the transition and you need to roll out of inversion immediately, otherwise you will crash. Mining ships need to be overpowered in all directionalities (as you've seen). Tip the wrong way in your current design and you could find yourself stuck underground.
Ship name: The Albatross. You should have one main base for building stuff and multiple outposts for mining. Even in space, you need an outpost. Also, do all the contracts you need to earn cash..that's the final goal. Plus, have fun building ships as well. The final objective is to have fun!
Next Stage base? Probably some larger Storage. A set of multiple basic Refinery units to process multiple ore at once. And then the next stage of Refinery and Assembly! Still might recommend Intake vents on that Miner though, As it's very possible to suffocate inside the cockpit. Even in atmosphere.
@@SkyeStorme Upward thrusters is what will allow your ship to roll Skye, as it stands you're relying on the Gyros for roll but they will not function when the ship is full of cargo. On the same note if you point the nose of the ship towards the ground gravity will pull you forward and might cause you to flip over. Loving the series so far, can't wait until you start playing around with pistons
I stand by what i said in the last episode. "The H.M.S. Boar" is a perfect name. I mean, you just gave it a lot more 'meat', and its 'tusks' just got bigger.
Mind the time limit on the contract you already accepted. Failure to meet the contract time limit causes you to loose reputation points. Most certainly, expand the base's storage capacity if you're planning on mining multiple ores at such large quantities per trip. 1 large thruster is equal to like 6 small ones combined, and I believe is more power efficient than the 6 combined. At this point, you'd probably be better off upgrading to large thrusters in all directions, not just up. If you change up your thrusters, while changing the armor around them, you could find other places to tuck in the gyros and the ore detector, thus giving room to add 1 more battery up top if you felt the need. Plan ahead for eventually going into space. You'll need H2 thrusters, as Atmo thrusters will run out of sufficient atmosphere to work before reaching orbit. Since you have all that ice around you, start mining some, and with a few more O2H2 Generators, you can process the ice and start filling some large H2 storage tanks so that you have plenty of H2 when you're ready to make use of it. You decide if you want to expand the base grid to include the ice processing, or if you want to make a separate grid elsewhere on the frozen lake. If you build a separate grid for it, you won't have to worry about the ice mining area interfering with the main base expansion.
you should try hydrogen thrusters they run on hydrogen which you make with an o2/h2 generator that consumes ice. hydrogen thrusters are a lot more powerful and work in space or a combination of atmospheric and hydrogen works too !
Another great video, Nice ship redesign , just be aware the more weight you add in engines , etc. The more thrust you add can become a vicious cycle if you let it more engines more weight , more engines more weight , more engines more weight , vicious cycle.
Make this base into the ice lake mining outpost and create a main base with mass storage and bigger processing capacity closer to the trade outpost (quicker contract turnaround) I’d make a few mining outposts in ore rich areas with minimal processing capabilities (helps with light repairs) I’d make the main base landing pad from containers with half blocks on top for armour/ aesthetic, to give you a decent storage capacity during the early main base build phase Loved the ship, great design 👌 Only 3 lights in the centre looks out of place on a long fronted ship to me Maybe consider moving the ships lights to the hole created by the drill framework (to give it some purpose) Is it just me of is the ship starting to look like a lobster 🦞 😂 An additional ship made for quick scouting would be fun to see (zippy little thing with nothing but thrusters 😂)
You can set mirror axis, so that whatever you build on the one side, is added on mirrored on the other. That way you can build the ship quickly, in the sense you only have to figure out one side.
Although you are still in that "space brick" phase of building, I appreciate your attention to aesthetics. I know you are likely going for a vanilla run here, I however suggest some of the extended armor block mods, should you find the block palate limiting. They give you more shape options, no particular advantage beyond looks.
To save some battery life while travelling, you can create a group to turn off Reverse Thrusters for long distance. Just remember to turn them back on when you get near your destination.
May I suggest spending some time on designing your base? That way you can blueprint it and always have an idea what you are going to build no matter how many times you start a new game or on a new planet.
If you group the backwards thrusters (your brakes) and set them on your hotbat to "on/off" you can use it as a cruise mode, saving energy and your forward button.
@SkyeStorme yeah i saw it like 3 seconds after i posted this. Awesome build btw. Cant wait to see what you come up with when you start doing capital ships. Any chance for multi player things?
I have this game, and you are almost making me want to play it again. I just get so motion sick from the way you gotta hover with the jetpack. Floating in space and me just don't mix well. This game is so cool though. My friend likes building giant ships that have little drones that just go out and dismantle other ships. He calls it the ship eater.
Personally instead of making the miner ship longer, I’d’ve made a “trailer” for it (essentially just cargo containers with connectors on each end… maybe a couple thrusters to keep it floating or something…)
Mirror mode only works in Creative mode. it does not work in survival sadly. I wish that it worked in survival as it does, as you said, make things so much easier to design ships. especially symmetrical ships
Probably worth making a ship thats all engines and a cockpit for zipping back and forth to the stations, so you don't have to maneuver drills macgee for each trip
If all the output from the drills moves through the front-most cargo container before it reaches any of the others, just one sorter/dropper set on either side of that first container should suffice to get rid of the rocks and ice. No need to have eight of these sets, if two would do. Also, if you ever decide to make your mining vessel much larger, you might consider including a refinery. This way, you could process ores on the go, dump more unwanted materials, and use storage more efficiently. The trade-off would be that the empty mining vessel would be heavier, and it would require more energy to operate. But for a truly massive ship that might not be an issue. Also, when selecting acquisition contracts, you could consider taking the smaller contracts in addition to the larger ones. On their own, those small contracts are of course not worth it, but I'm sure that while completing that large contract you took out, you would most certainly have enough room on the ship to store the required units for those small contracts as well. Icing on the cake.
hey, one tip for cargo/ship management. rename components (especially cargo) to have a short tag at the beginning or end of it's name. i like to use brackets and three letters. the use for this is there is a search bar at the top of the inventory and adjustment menus, so if you have 3 ships docked and want to transfer between and you just search that tag in the respective windows. also keep in mind as you already learned, the hot bar toggles only toggle, but you can just double click the power button (or select the recharge state for batteries) button in the actual menu to make sure they are all synchronized.

I can't believe you live on a infinite ice lake and don't go for hydrogen based ships and thrusters. You can also turn that miner around and head straight in to space with it just remember to add yourself a antenna so you don't get lost.
