I loved both. I saw the movie first, but liked the back story elements in the book.

I never read the book, but “Drive” is one of my favorite movies of all time. I’m obviously biased, and probably would be even if I was to read the book after seeing the movie. From your description, it does sound like the movie is better, not sure if better is the right term. Thanks for the video

Yeah both are great, but the movie made some good changes that made the story more powerful in my opinion. You should definitely read the book though!

Just finished reading the book for the first time, it's a blast, I was thoroughly sucked in, but I love noir writing. One detail I think you missed is Shannon is alive in the book. We are lead to believe he had died performing a stunt, but right at the end of the book Driver mentions he has a friend who works on cars for him, says he used to be a driver until he shattered his hip in a stunt and was forced into retirement. He doesn't say it's Shannon, but it's clearly Shannon. It also explains where Driver has been tuning up the cars he uses; earlier in the book he talks about buying an old car for a job, and taking it to get new tires and a performance tune, it's clear that it was Shannon tuning the cars.

I felt so dumb reading this book. I needed a ice cold horchata lol. The extra details in the book just put me off.

Yes, you're not a fan of noir writing. But I still contend that you detailed, chart-informed review of L.A. Confidential is one of the greatest book reviews ever.

Great comparison. I love the book, and I couldn't believe it when the movie came out. One thing, though, in regards to the book, their was an pre-edition that came before the 2005 book, but it was made as a short story and was published in 2002 with other noir writers in a book by the name of D'Ray's - Measures of Poison.
There's numerous movies out there that had great beginnings and influences by other books, for example, the 2014 movie Interstellar with the actor Matthew McConaughey great sci-fi movie I for sure thought this was based on a book, but apparently not the writers had there main influence from a physics book, The science of Interstellar by Kip thorne.
Can't wait for your next review.

Of interesting! I'm have to see what it was like as a short story. And I looove Interstellar! I wish it was based on a book, rather than just influenced by one, because I would love to do an episode on it.
I'm glad you liked the video! 😁

I haven't read the book (yet?) But absolutely love the movie and glad to see that there is maybe finally an exception to the "the book is always better" rule haha

I'm curious if you've read the sequel Driven yet. I read it and found myself a bit confused by the ending. I might have to take your tack and read it a second time to try to understand that last bit. Either way, I'd be curious on your thoughts when and if you read the sequel.

I did, and I remember thinking it was okay. I actually don't remember much about it though so it didn't make a big impression on me. At the time I made a review video for it for patreon, but I'll put it up on youtube soon so you can watch it.

I just finished Jaws by Peter Benchley. I’d be interested in your opinion vs movie. Also doing The Getaway, but if you decide, skip the Alec Baldwin version. Trust me.

Jaws has been on my list for a while! I had it as an option in a patreon poll but it had lost. I think I'll plan on covering it before summer is over!
I've never heard of The Getaway, I'll look that one up

@@WhytheBookWins you want the film staring Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw. If you watched The Offer about The Godfather, the film is mentioned several times.
