- Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin remains in an intensive care unit listed in critical condition after he went into cardiac arrest on the football field. CBS2's Kevin Rincon talked to doctors about how incredibly rare this is.

I’m a medical student and a former Paramedic whose done CPR on countless individuals. Commotio cordis was the first possibility that popped into my head when I saw this. However, I cannot understate how rare that is due to the fact that the chest trauma has to be absolutely precise (in terms of timing during the heart contraction/relaxation cycle) with the proper force and proper orientation in order to induce this. I still am not convinced that’s what occurred here. Its extremely disturbing to see that a 24 year old, healthy, extremely athletic man needed CPR to save his life.

If Damar makes a full recovery, and the reason for his cardiac arrest is that rare blow to his heart, then I'm sure we will see him playing again next season. My advise to Damar, is to keep his head down when making a tackle.
I remember when these cardiac arrhythmias concerned a few isolated cases...while now they are the order of the day especially in many young people.

Are we just not going to talk about how a small localized impact to the center of the left ventricle being very unlikely due to the shoulder pads? The impact should have been spread out, not solely affecting an area the size of a ping pong ball. Wish him well but hope the doctors treating him aren't this closed minded in assuming this is the reason before doing all the testing.

Hamlin's last booster was on 12/26/22. Sadly, it seems that was one booster too many.

we all know how this happened. They say this is rare, but athletes have been collapsing on the field all over the place and at a rate I've never seen.

@@cjstats1514 well when you compare all of time for sports the stats might be in your favor. But, if you take the snippet of time that is post covid, you will see the rate at which these heart failures are being reported has skyrocketed. Especially in young people. It's happening across every sport and every field.

It is so obvious what is happening
The facts remain: Hamlin made a moderately high impact tackle. He stood up and then dropped dead. The man died on the field. He was resuscitated in front of hundreds of thousands of whitenesses. The chances of Hamlin to die from a heart attack wearing a chest protector, at his age and experience is implausible. Even if he skipped several heart beats, this would not cause a player to DIE! At most he would have fainted. However he stopped breathing and his heart stopped. What could cause this? The Covid-19 Vaccine period.

@@SLRams340246 Chris Progner was struck by a Hockey Puck most likely traveling around 100mph. The type of gear he wore is questionable. He blacked out. He didn't die. He was not resuscitated like Hamlin was.
Keep in mind, NFL players are hit in the chest while wearing full NFL gear that wraps around the shoulders and pectoralis every time the ball is hiked. Why aren't there more cases of players dropping dead from mild contact? This theory that Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest due to a split second hit to the chest is possible, but extremely unlikely. Chris Progner was not vaxxed. You're right. However Hamlin was and this is why it shouldn't be overlooked.
