    Along with a primer pocket crimp remover thingy, I bought a counter sink drill device from the hardware store and it seems to work okay when put on my Dewalt 20v drill driver. That prep center though....
    WOW!

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The drill is probably faster but I usually do the pockets after normal chamfer and debur from trimming so I'm only handling it once... aside from here where I used the wrong tool to ream the first time 🤣

    Just tested it with my deburr tool. Makes a world of difference, not terrified of setting one off now. Thank you!!

      Takes enough off and stop at the bottom of the pocket before going too deep!

    I have buckets of LC 5.56 so I bought a Dillon Super Swage 600 and hate it, it's like running a press so I bought a case prep multi tool off Scamazon for 15 bucks. It's the type that has a handle that unscrews and stores the bits inside. They chuck up nice in a small battery drill and make short work reaming those primer pockets and they are all perfect. Nice chamfer and no oversize pockets.

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's how I started, with the multi tool. The drill method would eventually run out of batteries. The prep station just holds more tools and is quiet. I've tried swaging with the Lee APP, but it's also another single stage press, and keeping the case collator topped off was still taking a lot of effort. I just ended up back to reaming with the VLD tool. Thanks 👍🇺🇲🤠

    Yeah man I've bought those military crimp removers and primer pocket swagers but I always find myself doing it like this also. It's just so much faster to me...

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's fast and I can do it while already holding the case for chamfer and debur after trimming. Then, after firing, they get stored in the 2+ fired box and I know they're already reamed for next time.

  • @coreyghayes

    That bit is intended to chamber the inside of the case mouth. The one beside it is to de-burr the outside of the case mouth. There's an entirely different bit designed to remove the crimp.

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are different tools available, and I have many of them. This is easy and repeatable and works as well as most other reaming methods. I've since started swaging on an APP. Thanks 🇺🇸

    Ok, looks like a good solution for small primer pocket crimps. But why not just use the large and small primer pocket reamers that came with the Lyman case prep center?
    My Lyman case prep center came only with the VLD bit that you show on the hand tool, so I’ll have to find the standard one you show here and give it a try, as it looks very fast. Thanks for the suggestion. 👍

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The non VLD tool is just faster than a normal reamer, and bottoms out before you take too much out. I usually just hit it for 2-3 seconds to break off the sharp angle of the crimp/stakes and it's good to go. For large pockets, I'm stuck with the actual reamer. Thanks for checking it out 🇺🇲👊

    I ream my military crimps and haven't noticed a bit of difference in the primer to pocket fit from the brass without a crimp .

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  ปีที่แล้ว

      Works just fine. If the primer pocket fails, there's no shortage of military 556 brass lol

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a normal inside neck debur tool, I've found these work better than the actual "crimp reaming tools". Just a few quick turns and it takes off enough of the edge to allow a new primer to be easily installed. It doesn't take much, but will bottom out on the primer pocket before you're able to go too far🇺🇲👍

    *Frankford Arsenal Prep Station comes with all this standard. You can also add cleaning mops and use them mop out the inside of your case, if you need to. For most rifle case prep, and the money, the FRANKFORD is the best buy out there. The only cases it won't trim are calibers without shoulders, like the 45-70 or the 357 mag. I've had mine for a decade or more and it has saved me a lot of time and sore fingers*

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the FA prep center that doesn't have the trimmer. I used to use the Lee gauges with the 8/32 cutter adapter on one of the stations and you can still trim straight wall cartridges that way. Got the Lyman as a gift and use it more because it's quieter, though I can't find a use for all 5 stations at once. I've since gotten a Lee APP for sizing and swaging pockets, it's fast as hell and doesn't remove any material from the case(which some people really make a stink about). For bulk trimming, I have moved to the WFT2 with 223, 300blk, and 308 trim chambers. All my other stuff is still done with the Lee set up on the Lyman prep center.

      @@DummyRound *My set up is an ancient Pacific (pre Hornady). It came with the original case trimmer that you screw to the top of your bench. It has assorted pilots for most of the common calibers. It Comes as a hand crank but chuck it up in my cordless drill and it works like a charm. Accurate & fast.*

      My FA prep station did not come with the primer pocket reamer tools only primer pocket cleaners. I used the reamers that came in my lyman hand case prep tool which came with both large and small primer pocket reamers.

  • @DisgustedGenXr
    @DisgustedGenXr ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Why not swage? I found that reaming them gas resulted in a few primers falling out and down into my trigger group. Not too good.

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't spent money on a swager yet and hear pretty mixed reviews on the single stage swage units. I've never had excessively loose pockets due to reaming. If your primers are blowing out, they were probably already loose to begin with. Hard telling with military brass from unknown origins. I'll probably try swaging some day, but this is working for now.

    • @DisgustedGenXr
      @DisgustedGenXr ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DummyRound i hear that. I just put a swage die in my lee turret?!? Is that bad? Seems to work. Nice snug fit. Little finicky to set up but im thinking forcing the pocket open may be a hair better than removing material. I used the lyman tool up until I bought the swage die. Also nickle 9mm cases suck. Very loose pockets. I saved a bunch up all excited to made a couple hundred XTP special pretty boolets and the primers are loose decapping . Not a fan of nickel anymore. At least not for reloading

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  ปีที่แล้ว

      It should work fine on a turret press. The nickle brass could have come from some hot factory loads and already loosened up. There are go/no go primer pocket gauges that will tell you if you are out if spec, they might be $10-15 each and will help you sort out bad cases before wasting primers in them.

    Without some kind of depth stop, too much material was removed in this vid. Also it was not squarely on the cutter. I wouldnt recommend doing it this way.

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  ปีที่แล้ว

      It actually stops on the tip of the cutter and removes less material than a dedicated reamer does. Anyways, I've since started swaging on the APP.
