    You should get "Red Book" aka The Guide Book of United States Coins 2024. It describes every coin minted by the U.S. Government.

    Example 1957 D Jefferson nickel is not worth that price in that grade (5:47) matter of fact you can pull that from circulation searching through nickel boxes from the bank because Jefferson Nickels are really not that popular. I have build 95% of the entire Jefferson Nickels except the War Silver Nickels from circulation and I got a bunch of extras. So be caution on buying I called self grading coins, grading is subjective.

    A Silver would be 1964 and older. Any 1999 design is best for the final quarter slot. My coin collection is pretty much US and Canadian for the bulk of it, but do have various world coins too. I have most of the coins that would complete that book, but need to replace some of the silver examples that I sold in a previous collection.

      What's up brother. I hope my collection is as nice as yours sounds, especially if you can fill this album already. I've had this album for a while. I just know decided to blow off the dust and further my knowledge of the hobby. More to follow 😅😊😅...

      Your collection is nice for a person who is new to the hobby. My current one has been worked on since 2018, and I have the ability to trade for face from my cashier job. However, I see a serious determination in you as to where, I know that you will definitely complete this book, and go beyond.

    For example I see you have a coin from Mexico 5 peso silver South East Railroad 1950 one year type (7:09 on your lest on the screen) I hope you didn`t pay to much for that coin but it is not real because those coins are slightly rare because so many where melted to make the silver Olympics Mexico 25 Pesos late 60s or it could be a novelty item, next time make a short on that coin so I can better see the coin.

    Proof Coins have undergone extra processes before minting, and are minted at higher pressure than circulation Coins. A mint business strike coin can look really great, even described as proof like, but have not gone through the proof process.

    I started collecting coins and currency about twenty-five years ago. I don't spend a lot of money on it. I don't have gold coins. I have a good amount of silver. I have gone to a few local coin shops. I have also bought online. I am an old man now. I like the coins I saw when I was a little kid. I was born in 1953. I did not know anything about those silver coins except I could get candy for them.

      I mean what kid doesn't like, or want candy. Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself with a novice fellow numismatician.
      I'm born and raised from the South. Born 1980. Recently retired from 20 years active duty (Army). Love paper currency, but looking forward to broaden my knowledge about numismatics as a whole. I'm looking forward to growing my knowledge about coins and I totally welcome any input you have to offer. And I'm old right along with you. I'm 44 years old, but 164 in Army years😊😅😊...

  • @oxtails1

    These are the categories I look at coins circulated, (uncirculated, mint just coins that are business strikes instead of putting them into circulation they are package for collectors), proofs are usual mint S or W and the coins have a thicker shiny appearance than business uncirculated strikes , and (cameos are frosty are extreme mirror reflection surfaces)

    Post mint damage coins ( coins that where alter outside the mint and most of the time have no value but the metal content) you don`t want it because it can detracts from your typeset collection and usually is placed in the novelty section/ collecting community. (8:17)

    • @oxtails1
      @oxtails1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@legaltender1980 No, because your dealing mostly with collators then sellers or dealers and so the passion from a collector drive is to obtain and hold history or personal connection and because of that there not strict on the categories you ask about, some are most not. Dealers and sellers first is to profit from the hobby solely and collecting second, so they would be very strict on getting the better grade or that rare coin to increase profit taking.
