He’s basically just got five keyboards, one below and four manuals up top (up to five manuals in some organs, none of the the seven manual stations that were made survive functionally afaik).

    • @buahcs
      @buahcs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Have you ever seen Jonathan Scott play? There's a video I saw where he was doing something with 4 fingers of one hand on the one keyboard and using the thumb to play a melody on the other keyboard and then doing things with the other three limbs. And watching him trill WITH HIS FOOT is mindblowing. Such talent!
I turned pages for an organ recital once and I was almost sweating as much as the organist was just watching. (After the dress rehearsal I was informed that I had been audibly counting the measures WRONG and the organist had still played perfectly anyhow!) When my legs allow me to practice it's all I can do to keep practicing and I'm a beginner. It takes a whole nuther level of patience and control over limbs to be able to do that.

Thanks for the comments. Just so everyone knows, the sheet music I have is NOT published. A talented friend of mine arranged this for classical pipe organ. I feel this is the correct tempo for this arrangement, so the large 32' reeds can speak correctly. If it were a broadway synthesizer, then yes, the tempo should be faster. But for the classical pipe organ, I feel this tempo is just right. :)

  • @AttilaThebung
    @AttilaThebung 2 ปีที่แล้ว +54

A big issue some people have, especially playing in large rooms with a classical pipe organ is they'll want to play at the original tempo and it just doesn't feel right. The instrument can't breathe and the room can't decay, so it just becomes a big muddle of notes - there's a few playthroughs of Toccata And Fugue in D Minor where this is an issue. I think just slowing the piece down a touch and letting the instrument breathe and really resonate with the room gave a whole new feel to it. Wonderful work.

In sleep, he sang to me
    In dreams, he came
That voice which calls to me
    And speaks my name
    And do I dream again?
    For now, I find
The phantom of the, opera is here
    Inside my mind
    Sing once again with me
    Our strange duet
    My power over you
    Grows stronger yet
And though you turn from me
    To glance behind
The phantom of the, opera is there
    Inside your mind
Those who have seen your face
    Draw back in fear
I am the mask you wear
    It's me they hear
    Your spirit and your voice
    In one combined
The phantom of the, opera is there
    Inside your mind
Is that the phantom of the opera?
Beware the phantom of the opera
    In all your fantasies
    You always knew
    That man and mystery
    Were both in you
    And in this labyrinth
    Where night is blind
The phantom of the opera is there
    Inside your mind
    Sing, my angel of music

The way to get this song's true power out is to use a really big church organ (the room IS the organ) and jam pack the rest of the instruments in. The sheer amount of volume that you'd get just with an orchestra that big, plus the added natural reverb of the room, need I say more
