    Bhitarkanika National Park Odisha is home to the biggest salt water crocodiles in india
    Kalia "The Dark One" was a giant saltwater crocodile known beyond its giant size as a famous man-eater terrorized the region for about 50 years until he was killed in 1926 near Dhamara River in Bhitarkanika National Park by the famous hunter prince Rajendra Narayan Bhanjadeo of Kanila.
    Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the estuarial region of Bramhani-Baitarani, in the north-eastern place of Kendrapara district of Odisha (Orissa), the sanctuary covers an area of 672 square kilometers of Mangrove Forests and Wetland. Three rivers flow out to sea at Bhitarkanika forming a tidal maze of muddy creeks and mangroves. Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary is home to numerous species of birds. It is also home to the endangered and mysterious King Cobras. The sanctuary has to its account is the inhibition of its ecosystem by the Giant Estuarine Crocodiles and numerous varieties of other animal species
    Bhitarkanika has one of the largest populations of endangered saltwater crocodiles in India and is globally unique in that, 10% of the adults exceed 6 m length. Nearly 1671 saltwater crocodiles inhabit the rivers and creeks. Around 3,000 saltwater crocodiles were born during 2014 annual breeding and nesting season.

      Actually as a person of Indian origin living in the US I can tell you that those animals are far fewer in number than they used to be. Habitat loss is probably in the upper 90% and there are very small national reserves or uninhabitable areas like the Mangrove forests where large animals can still make a living. Sad story everywhere on this planet except maybe in Africa or South America.

    Hey, I’m back commenting on this video after about a year. Just wanted to let you know that Chamo Lake in Ethiopia has the most impressive looking crocodiles in the world! They are Nile Crocodiles and are about the same length as Bhitarkanika Saltwater Crocodiles, but the Chamo Lake Niles are heavier built and more massive overall. You can see a number of Chamo Lake Nile Crocodiles videos on TH-cam. I thought you might be interested in knowing this.

      @MR Adventures, it seems like an awesome place to visit!! You are very lucky you got to see those crocs and especially that gigantic croc at 7:23 in your video. I assume that is Mahishasur, and I think he may be the largest crocodile on earth!! Bhitarkanika is known for having the largest Saltwater Crocodiles on earth. According to what I read online; it seems that in 2006 the Guinness Book of World Records listed Bhitarkanika National Park as having the largest crocodiles on earth at 23 feet long. In addition to Mahishasur, it seems there is another 23-footer there named "Baula Kumbhira".

    Just wanted update you that the Saltie at 7:23 is almost certainly the Saltie called “Don Kalia”. He is said to be the largest Saltie in all of Bhitarkanika at supposedly 7 meters (23 feet long). Do you remember how big he was when you saw him? Did he indeed look gigantic and possibly 7 meters long in your opinion?

    • @zimbo5521

      @Pilgrims journey
      Yes, the Saltie at 7:23 is apparently “Don Kalia” whereas the Saltie at 5:30 appears to be “Mahishasura”. Mahishasura is a larger Saltie than Don Kalia. Mahishasura is estimated at 18.5 feet long and Don Kalia is estimated at about 18 feet long. However, Mahishasura is more bulky as well. Those are the two largest Salties in Bhitarkanika. Unfortunately, there are no actual 20 foot Salties there. But those two specimens are still extremely large.
