How is it even possible for a public toilet in the middle of the city to be abandoned for 20 years?
It stops working, the council puts a “out of order” sign, council goes: “next month we’ll get to it”. The people complain council goes: “it’s on the agenda”. People stops using it completely, council forgets. Next thing you know twenty years go by.
Imagine a tourist nipping in there to relieve themselves. They'd never visit England again!
I can but agree, when working at Cannon Street Station in London, apart from despatching trains, all other work was in house. I have cleaned the underground gents public toilets when someone had done a "Dirty Protest", excrement had been smeared on just about all available surfaces. But i started by spraying it all with lots of bleach, then cleaned as before. Took about an hour but was pleased with the result. Took before and after pics to prove what i had achieved. Got complimented that time on a job well done. Felt elated on what i had done. This was in about 2003.
Is that the only interesting event in your life in the last 20 years?

My flat in a council tower block has reversible windows so residents can clean them they're selves! Not for the rich filth obviously!

The young chap helping cleaning the Gloucester house held a briefcase with 'Soft Machine' on it with a load of travel tags. He may have been a roadie for that band. Or something music industry based.

They don't think about that. About 40 years ago I spoke to a lady who was married to an architect. She said when he designed a house, he asked her to look at the design from the POV of someone that uses it and she would point out practical things like; make the windows open to the inside so they can be cleaned by the resident themselves, etc. This architect obviously didn't :-)
