thats a real struggle being born in the us parents want us acclimated to us customes kreyol becomes a second language when it should have been our first
I can so relate. I just ordered Haition food with my struggle Creole, and the lady bursted out in uncontrollable laughter with my attempt...I wish I was fluent.😩
You are right about the different dialect. But the key difference is the grammar which has its roots in West Africa, particularly Benin. That is also where some of the religious practices come from. Some of my Senegalese friends (both Wolof and Fulani) sometimes refer to Hatians as Beninois. I had a Marabout in Casamance (Senegal) explain some of the background. Very interesting stuff.
True you are right. There is obviously a mix. The Senegalese, being mainly Sunni Muslim (sufi) focus on that a bit. Primarily because of the religious aspects. Like here there are stereotypes. For example people from Gabon (fairly oil rich) are viewed as snobs. I guess it is the same stuff everywhere. Just wish Haiti would get a break. Seems like a constant stream of problems, earthquakes, hurricains, etc. Good luck.
Omg I came back after a few year ago and this video still killed me . Please leave it up, it would be a crime to the universe if you took this down. My god, ou mechan pou sah.

My grandmother and her sisters would speak it to each other thou. Many Trinidadians unfortunately has similar stories.

Mia Calixte, it's not your fault if your parents did not teach it to you. Even me I'm guilty of not teaching my kids creole because they are mixt with Mexican, and I live in Texas with no Haitians around. So I tried teaching them when they were little but other kids started to make fun of them because they couldn't understand them so I stopped. But now I started teaching them again.
