- Dear LC90 users, The Choyong LC90 radio will undergo its first upgrade at the end of March, with the new software version being LC90EN_CYOS_4.1.
This update is specifically aimed at the demands of American users and SWLs.
I would like to extend special thanks to @FarpointFarms on youtube for his videos and @Dan Robinson on facebook for his suggestions.
The main upgrades include the following points:
1: Added SSB function, supporting LSB and USB, with a minimum tuning step of 10Hz.
2: Increased the shortwave continuous tuning frequency to 30MHz.
3: Added voice search stations function. You just need to long press the"Lang" key, wait for the Mic icon to start flashing, and then speak out the radio station you want to listen to such as: "I want to listen to BBC world service"or "Voice of America.
4: Optimized the speed of entering from sleep mode to regular radio mode and starting playback.
5: Fixed some known bugs, such as screen flickering.
To ensure the uniformity of the LC90 firmware version in the future, this upgrade cannot be done over a 4G network, And can only be done by downloading the firmware on a computer and manually upgrading it. After this upgrade is completed, all subsequent version updates can be done over Wi-Fi.
Please go to the official website of Choyong (www.choyongradio.com) to download the upgrade tool and new firmware package, and follow the upgrade instructions. This process is a little complex, so please operate patiently.
Note1: The new firmware for the LC90Mini will be released at the end of June. The new firmware for the LC90 is not compatible with the LC90Mini. Please do not upgrade the LC90 firmware to the LC90Mini, otherwise, the LC90Mini will definitely be damaged!
Note2: Due to compatibility issues, the firmware only supports upgrading on Windows systems. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Please use a Windows computer to download the firmware for the upgrade.
Note3: If you are unable to complete the upgrade through your computer, please email me at Choyongradio@gmail.com, and I will provide you with some assistance or suggestions.
Thanks and enjoy Choyong Radios
Whenever you think you found the perfect machine, of course there's a catch. How is it possible to have mono out if the radio is stereo, it's hard to imagine.
Awesome!!! Thanks for listening to us!
Hi, I'm here. What's up
I’m looking forward to this update for my LC90 Mini!!
Thank You ! Great improvements !
Thank you for your praise
I got the upgrade to work. Thanks.
Everyone on TH-cam seems to LOVE this radio. I think this is gonna be the one for me.
Thank you. I also hope so
Great news and a much needed addition, so now I wish to purchase it for delivery to Australia. What is best access to buy?
Direct from you or another source?
Hello, thank you for your interest in LC90. You can send your address to: choyongradio@foxmail.com. Our staff will check if your address is eligible for purchasing the radio.
2 questions. Will the LC90 mini be getting a similar upgrade? How long should I wait until I am sure the radio will have the current upgrade, if I purchase it from a vendor instead of direct from the manufacturer?
I've been waiting for the next shipment of radios to become available in the US. I'm a MAC user. You'll probably find that there are more of us here than in China. This vital upgrade being only available through Windows is a fatal complication for me. I already have a decent short wave. What I was most interested in is the internet radio and was going to order that so I could have both in one unit. Since that's not happening I ordered a different radio at a fraction of the price. This could have been nice. Add two way Blue Tooth and I might revisit.
It is indeed regrettable, but the LC90 sold from now can be upgraded via Wi-Fi. There's no need for a computer or a MAC; simply connect to Wi-Fi to perform the upgrade.
So, where is the upgrade? It is now April 5, but when I go to the website as instructed in this video, I just see a message "Waiting for Upload." So where are people getting it?
Please wait a moment longer, we are currently updating to firmware version 4.3, which will offer improved SSB performance and is expected to be released on 9th April.
will the Chaoyuan lc90 accept updates for SSB
how can we purchase it in Canada?
I was able to upgrade the firmware, but I can't find where to set upper/lower sidebands (SSB). Ideas?
You can find the SSB+ and SSB- icon in MENU, press OK to enter this function
@@choyongradio Thank you
@@johne3439 , I used Windows 10, 64 bit
@@choyongradio I would like to recommend long press of SW button to switch between AM, USB and LSB, short-press between SW broadcast bands (in AM) & ham bands (USB/LSB).
@@dmfalk Thank you for the feedback
did not work in windows 11
We indeed have not tested the compatibility of this upgrade tool with Windows 11. If your computer is Windows 11 or Mac, and you are willing to ask your friends to help with the upgrade, don't worry. Next week, we will cooperate with an American company that will provide assistance for you. You just need to send your LC90 to this company, they will upgrade your radio and then send it back to you.
See my reply elsewhere in these comments. It does work on Win11.
@@dmfalk Thank you

@@choyongradioI can confirm that it works with Win11. When it stops on generating the comms port list, hold down the power button until Windows chimes twice, then it will load the firmware.
My own comment is that it definitely still needs more work to fix crashes, losing the WiFi, and problems with the clock after acquiring the NTP.
One new feature I'd like to see is support for both the US and European versions of RDS/RBDS.
@@dmfalk If you have already upgraded to version 4.1, please select the option to upgrade to version 4.2 in the Setting-Version info menu. To upgrade to version 4.2, you need to insert a TF card into the radio. Version 4.2 has fixed the NTP time issue.
@@choyongradio Thank you, successfully installed. :) I'll let you know how things go, sometime soon.
@@dmfalk I spent too many hours trying to get this to work under Windows 11. First, the driver appears not to install (DrvInstaller_x64). Second, the aboot software - hangs on 23:38:06.601 getting serial devices list... This failure probably has to do with the fact that my Windows 11 is running under Parallels VM on a M1 iMac.
