Next time I will be checking out Indiana Dunes National Park, which was just a State park until last year, but is now Indiana's first National Park. Exciting stuff! This area is also known as the “birthplace of ecology” in America because in 1899 University of Chicago botanist Henry C. Cowles published his classic paper on plant succession on the basis of field studies here.
My favorite part of Michigan City is having the State Prison located there. I love driving by in the summer time and honking my horn at the inmates, they love that!!
There is a high tower in the zoo that is prolly highest point in the city besides top of the blue chip hotel that you can look out over the lake and the beach Michigan city and see the Chicago shore line better

If you go about 5 min west on hw12 from the park area you get to Indiana Dunes state park...you can go sledding in the summer there ....great time
