I was an apprentice in 1973 and recall Capital going on-air 16th October, 1973. Happy memories, with names like Tommy Vance, Jona Shenton, Kenny Everett, Dave Cash, Roger Scott, Sarah Ward, Marsha Hunt, little Nicky Horne and too many more. Recall that original AM service was on 539. Capital will be 40 years ol dthis year. How time flies!

Brilliant selection and brings back so many memories - even brings a fondness for Macdonalds!! And the Sapphire Warehouse - blimey that is a blast from the past. The one advert that I always remember is the one for the Hounsditch warehouse!!

That McDonald's ad got parodied on Kenny Everett's BBC TV show, I think.

great station. listening in Birmingham when it went over to 194 it much more difficult to hear...

Yes, I heard it made it a long way on 539. It was down to the Transmitter acting as Omnidirectional, & the frequency it was originally on. I lived in Staffordshire. but 194 you could barely hear it. Blocked to the North I think I bet Capital djs were surprised to get requests from somewhere like, Sutton Coldfield, or Yardley, 🤔.

The nearest thing these days to Capital is Boom Radio half the presenters are ex Capital & the jingles are almost the same

Huh? I listen to Boom a lot - the only presenters from Capital's 'golden age' are Graham Dene and Nicky Horne, and the jingles sound NOTHING LIKE these!

Anyone remember the Capital Radio bus and the Volkswagon bus that was two front ends welded together ?

I was on the first and second Capital Radio Fun Bus all over London 76 t0 79 and on air 75 to 79 on Night Flight and London link Saturdays with Radio Stations around the Commonwealth also on Sales 74/5. Great times there in my over 60 years of Broadcasting. See my history on Wikipedia as Ian Damon. Cheers !
