My friend went on exchange to Uruguay two years ago and he brought mate back with him and he’s taught myself and a few of my friends all about it and how to use it. Up until about a month ago we were using gourds and bombillas we found on amazon. We became proficient in using the cheap things we found. But over spring break my friend went back to Uruguay and brought us all back some real deal gourds and bombillas and we use the same exact spoon bombillas as you for every type of mate we use. Thank you for all the informative videos and keep up the great work! ¡Salud!

I have been scared to try powdery mate but you've given me confidence. Thanks.

I use a under 100 count bombisha for powdery mate and have learned to avoid clogging by being patient and letting the sherba soak and enlarge with the water

👍 Patience is working for me. Also, when sipping through the bombilla, I'm noticing it works better when I do it very slowly with very low pressure

Perfect video Dave. You're doing a job to humanity. You've changed the way I see mate - I've been drinking it for 7 years, but 3 years ago i've discovered your channel and your vids and since then I've been drinking ym EVERYDAY.

Have you ever tried mate cocido?. Instead of using a gourd ( by the way as a gourd you can use any small coffe cup) and bombilla just put to boil water in a 1 or 2qt saucepan. Once done, remove from the stove, add a couple spoons of yerba mate ( you will find the right amount by your taste), stir a little and let it stay for several minutes. Stir again and pour a little of cold water and all the floating yerba will go to the bottom. If you want also can filter it with a cloth strainer or a stainless steel one with very fine holes.

Try fermented mate. It adds a bit of a hallucinogenic property.

What category of cut would Guayaki so-called “organic mate” fall under? I tried to use a bombilla with a bulb-like strainer, but not sure if I’m doing it right since small particles seem to go through.

The information about the water hole is vital. Particularly underneath the Yerba or erva I found

I have just started drinking mate. Started off with the tin cans. Then decided to boil mate i found like tea. Discorvered it is not correct to boil and went traditional. So yeah! Going good

Can I ask you a question ? It´s not about Bombillas,,...but about gourds. Can I use a coconut Shell as a gourd ? I make one with a stand and I use it about 3 times, I´ve seen some people re-polishing coconut bowls after 5 or 10 uses but I still wonder,...It´s some kind of wood ? Does it get mold or rotten ? If i start it using every day and re-polishing it some time ? I don´t know so I´m asking for help,...
