Gherman Titov, Gagarin’s backup, is seated directly behind him. Cosmonaut Grigori Nelyubov gives Gagarin something to chew or eat on the way to the pad. Nelyubov never flew in space and was dismissed from the cosmonaut corps. Also, Andrian Nikolayev is directly behind Titov. He flew Vostok 3.
In my opinion, the Space Race was "Showtime" (no offense to the Space fans who are fans of the Los Angeles Lakers) before Magic Johnson brought "Showtime" to LA.
