the correct answer is nowhere - there just isn't any crab here like you'd find up North. Anybody could go anywhere and catch a rock crab in the Bay Area, but you'd be hardpressed to even find ONE crab at all. Just simply - DON'T go crabbing in socal. The video doesn't even show ANY wild-caught crabs by recreational fishermen. I'm not hating, it's a well-made video, but totally useless. The crabbing in socal is just way to sparce for anybody to even consider, I'm just cautioning anyone who watches this video and gets any hope of crabbing here in socal. Just go fishing on the pier for mackerel instead, or go on a boat and get some kelp bass, or learn freediving or get a kayak for some spiny lobsters, but crab? just no.

Not only that but how are we ending the “socal” video with MONTEREY??? I heard when he said defined as anything south of Santa Cruz (which is a crazy definition of SoCal on its own) but this is just kind of funny to me. Lol

There's no way Monterey is So Cal. Santa Barbara and south I think is a more reasonable definition. It's not So Cal until the locals preface the freeway names with "the"

SoCal has been barren for the last 5 years...Ventura doesn't count as SoCal and neither does Monterey. I would even settle for red rock, but those are even scarce.

I have caught great crab here in Oceanside CA! Our crab pods catch at least 4 each time off our boat. Love crabbing and eating. So delish.

Long Beach California in the early 1970'shad lots of large crabs. I was 8 years old. What happened to all those crabs that were hidden among the large pile of stones placed there?

Monterey is considered Central California. Just because you call it South of Santa Cruz, does not make it So Cal.

Okay here's the deal Santa Monica Bay is closed for commercial fishing has been for 80 years 90 years maybe I don't know that place is loaded with all kinds of crab recreationally I don't know what the rules are there are there once in a great while south of Point conception you'll get a Dungeness crab but nothing way down in Orange County or LA County maybe one every 50 years you'll see an occasional sea otter I've never heard of blue crab in SoCal lots of yellow brown and red rock crab spider crab kelp crab apple crab whatever you want to call them then there's the deep water box crab box crab California King way out there but to go off of the piers ain't happening Jackson unless it's really cold more than likely you'll pull up a bunch of babies however some years they're up on the beach almost I don't care if anybody's mad at me about saying all this California Southern is completely compromised hold your ground protect what's yours if you have any Horse Sense you leave with the rest of the rich assholes two words cold water

I dive a good majority of southern CA and only seen spider crabs and you hardly ever see them. Even during winter time for lobster season I don't see any crabs

FYI Monterey Bay is considered Central Coast not SoCal. In addition, Monterey coastal area is 2 hours South of San Francisco Northern CA.
