My thoughts exactly. Love me a good, clean open-ice hit. Fights don’t really do it for me unless it’s a true no defense slugfest, which doesn’t really happen much anymore. Fighting can maybe give your team a small boost but I really don’t think it helps you win.
I agree, with less open ice hits in general it seems as though players have forgot how to take a hit safely. I see a lot of players turning their backs to hits and having their head down they’re head down in the open, which are putting themselves in dangerous situations. Maybe it’d change with more hits and coaching players to take/absorb hits correctly
@@emorsey0188 and on top of that every time there is open ice contact everybody just throws down the gloves and fights. I get needing to set a tone with a fight, or if they'd genuinely injured your guy. But just for throwing a check?
You're right about that more hits but less dirty hits . Open ice hits give you a better chance to gage your opponents path and hit accordingly to ensure you don't blast hit in the head . You always see the most awkward hits by the boards and that's where the needless scraps start . What I mean by needless is that the intention was never to injure by the hitter just an awkward angle but of course you're gonna stand by your teammates .
Long story short more open ice hits as you said but less awkward ones and you'll have the perfect combination of more violence but warranted violence as opposed to unnecessary violence .
Who needs reality tv when the NHL exists?

My New Jersey Devils took a big win in their first ever outdoor win in front of their home faithful, the leafs cup tracker seems to be working (for now), lots of action in scoring and in high energy frustration, Bedard back, Hughes sound bytes and still more to come! Hockey can be violent without that involving cheap shots. Reaves of all people should appreciate a fight over a cheap shot. Reilly should have fought Grieg, rather than take a high cheap shot on him. And we all know if the rolls were reversed, Reaves would call out the cheap shot.
My VaporFresh team of the week is the Meth Cats.
The Saturday game I enjoyed was Stars/Oilers. Great back and forth hockey. The kid who took the OT penalty sealed their fate. You can’t give the Oilers an OT PP.

He's always been a punk. He's obviously a good player, but he is one of the main culprits of the ego and self centeredness that is creeping into the nhl. There's enough of that in the other sports already. That's why I like Bedard and Makar, they're great young players who actually have class.

kinda wrong abt the Habs. Many fans are liking where this is going. Theyve won a ton of games they shouldn't have, and have been decent without many key players. They successfully got two firsts for Monahan, and are looking great in their rebuild.

His 2 fights were this year were Arber Xhehaj and Marcus Foligno. You rreally think those aren't tough guys??? I cringe every time I hear the old excuse of he's not worth dropping the gloves with. As if every fighter in the league is just so important to offensive production and defensive structure that they can't afford to sit in the box. Even though they do it every game.@@bsfm6990
I was worried about how the PWHL would do in its first ever season, especially with it being a shortened one. But it's exceeded a lot of my expectations and the level of hockey is extremely high. I'm excited to see how the league grows and expands over the next few years.

Thank you. Thank you for giving my flyers a shout out. I feel like nhl and sportsnet and just about every other yt posters have been snubbing them. They're having an incredible bounce back season and are underrated. Just because they don't have big elite stars but tk and tippet are well on their way there. Coots is pretty up there too. But they are on a rebuild and to be in a playoff spot pretty much the whole season, deserves more attention. I think torts should be coach of the year for turning them around. We need a decent net minder and will be hoisting the cup within the next 3yrs.

Give Hughes one or two more years and see him become absolutely magic. As egotistical as it sounded, I've worked with some people who've had that same line of thinking as merely cashiers. Later on, becoming business owners and management material and best people I've ever worked with. He's at a frustrating mark, telling everyone that he's that high up and he knows he's gonna go far. He's gonna be great. Well aware of his own potential

People want a more physical league, not a more violent. Most of these hits you see are either the player delivering the hit does not properly line a hit up (which happens if 80% of your youth development is non-checking now) or the person recieving the hit turns, has head down or is otherwise unaware of the physicality (same reason above). The Gally hit or the crosscheck from reilly are not what we're advocating for.
