2014 Toyota Avalon - Review and Road Test

- The latest Avalon is a far riskier full size sedan than we've seen from Toyota in years past. With edgier looks and more engaged handling has the perpetually soft Avalon forsaken its comfy roots? KBB's Micah Muzio discusses in this video.

Writing the music is a lot of fun for me. I'm glad you dig it!
Micah Muzio hi funny bro from kbb.com

I always look forward to the next review from Micah, I've watched him since 08', and now he's dad.
I really like this car, it looks better than all its competitors and has a nicer interior IMO
This car is great for those looking to not be snooty. That can also be a different kind of snob effect but the toyota avalon seems to avoid this.
We have an older Avalon XLS which we gave our 16 year old son. We purchased the 2013 Avalon Limited with the technology package for $40,445, cash sale.
The newer models do handle differently compared to the older ones.
We drove many different vehicles. Infinity, Lexus, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes and kept coming back to the Avalon. It's a good car for the money. Spending $90,000 on a car that depreciates rapidly isn't a good idea. They're not investments.
My sister leased one and she wanted to take it right back after driving it home. Its a great car but compared to her old Avalon, she complained it was too stiff, too noisy, and it gave her a headache compare to her older Avalon which had a more quieter and luxurious ride. Critics really ruin the luxury segment by complaining about handling and "driver feel". They don't realize that a true luxury car is suppose to disconnect you from the road and the surroundings effortlessly with silent power.
GlockNinja buy a cave with wheels.
GlockNinja so you’re telling me you go out and buy a car without test driving
Lol this review is so sarcastic, but so accurate at the same time.
I like that you guys show alternatives and then say why they are a competitive options like the Avalon hybrid vs ES hybrid!
Lexus Es and Toyota Avalon are basically same vehicle but you have to pay extra for the Lexus badge. It is same as in case of Chevrolet Impala and Buick Lacrosse or Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKZ or Dodge Charger and Chyrsler 300. Lexus Es does not come in the luxury car category unlike other Lexus vehicles.
Awesome review which after buying a CPO Camry 2010 XLE V6 and a CPO 2012 Camry Hybrid XLE in the past year I went and bought a brand new 2014 Silver Avalon Hybrid Limited with Black Leather Interior. Clear and wonderfully well lit shots of the car with the presence of sublime music helped influence my purchase of this car. Hope to see more reviews like this from KBB. After seeing the 2015 Camry redesign I favored the Avalon as my preferred drive for years to come.
great job toyota! ...I want black on black limited. .
A true luxury car is when you close your eyes, you feel like the car is standing still with its engine turned off. A true luxury car is when you push down on the accelerator, you don't feel any force yet you've reached 60 in 8 seconds. A true luxury car is when you sit at a light and think that your car stalled because it is so quiet. A luxury car is a car you can steer with your pinky. If you want sporty handling...get a freaking sports car with leather seats.
im in australia, avalons were discontinued in 2005 but now we have the aurion which is basically the same as the us avalon. i have to agree with you in terms of a luxury car. the aurions ride is hard and uncomfortable, though the steering i would say is too soft. i have a 2004 Avalon (same as your 95-99 avalon) but the ride is just so much better, quiet soft steering feels like your on a couch and just rides so smoothly.
Nice video editing, you guys make great reviews and 'm subbed to more than 10+ other car channels but you're up there with the best.
Love kbb...they film their reviews in and around the Long Beach area.
Gene, I shall do my best.
I like the music in the background...make the video much more entertaining to watch
I've always liked the Avalon. Not because it's interesting, it's dead boring, but because it's so unpretentious as a car. It just wants you to have a comfy transport experience, and I'll give it that.
This is a nice looking car
Jay Oher the 2016 version looks better
I agree with you.
I don't any Aston Martin or Ford in there. I just see a Toyota, an experience that for once is surprisingly enjoyable.
My mom drives one maroon color hybrid. Drove it a couple times nice. I can't say nothing negative man because it's a nice car. I wouldn't own one that's for sure because I'm an old school guy. I drive a 95 saturn sl1 very comfortable car as well. If that car goes out I'm getting a 93 buick century. But this toyota drives better than my car, less noisey. But it does for some reason alittle bit remind me of my car. Just the leg room on the driver side and comfort.
You always do my friend! And the music you edit in is perfect. ;))
I spend good hard earn money for the 2013 Avalon, do you think I would have traded if it in, if in fact it was a better car (in the areas of concern) then what I had?
Again, read my post: The 2013 Avalon is a great car in many areas. Fit, Finish, Trim, tech package and more. It's just NOT as comfortable as the 2011 I trade or the 2012 I traded it in on. Sorry if that pisses you off, that's just how I feel.
Well said GlockNinja.
It's about time cars get reviewed by non journalists.
Great video, man. Keep going with this style of reviewing cars.
thanks for dropping the music kbb
thank you for the great review! love the intro change, very chic
Going south on PCH from East Anaheim at 1:00. Long Beach!
Great job with the video.
i liked the video production on this one. was different but good.
That too is changing because people are starting to realize Chrysler is not the same not that someone owns it that actually wants to make it succeed. Drive a new 300 and I'm sure you will be impressed.
My comments are all based on how I feel about the cars in mention. I've owned each, driven several 50,000 miles and feel comfortable in my states. Sorry if you don't agree with them.
Love your reviews
I believe it's 268 HP and 248 pound of torque!!
Well I'm not nuts so …
Good thing the car with:
- SPORTS Paddle Shifters
- SPORTS Mode Settings
- SPORTIER Suspension
- SPORTIER Seats
- SPORTIER Low Profile Tires
isn't a SPORTS Car?
I have owned 4 Toyota Avalons, (and 2 Camry's, 1 4-Runner and 2 Tercels) and currently own a 2012 Avalon, and I'm SURE the 2013 Avalon I HAD, was less comfortable, had MORE road noise, then any of the other Avalons I HAVE owned.
The 2013 is one hell of car, just not an Avalon of yesteryears.

I am not so sure if this indeed is better than Buick LaCrosse, Ford Taurus, or Chrysler 300.
I generally dig what you're doing in your reviews - I think they're fantastic. The music is just a cherry on top :) Keep up the good work man!
I consider the Avalon being a "nice Mid Size Sedan". But it's very similar to the Camry.
Ludagen YEP! In fact, that's what I thought it was as soon as I looked at the grill :)
I miss when car reviews were funny and witty like this one :(
Most other reviews I've seen or read have complained that the ride is a bit too stiff. Anyway, you can now add the new Chevy Impala to the list of competitors.
That lower grille is awful, but so is the spindle look they are going for on Lexuses and other Toyotas. They will probably give this a version of that when it's refreshed in a couple of years (unfortunately).
Given a choice between a 300 or this the 300 would be going home with me.I like the fact you can tell it is a 300 from a couple of blocks away. I don't like cookie cutter cars you have to read the name plate to tell what they are. The 300 has a in your face attitude and is greatly improved in the last couple of years. THE 300 has a great interior superior tech in the U connect and very quiet cabin, what else do you need?
Reliability
@@byrubiCoCBINGO
Best review ever :)
Well that's your opinion, much like mine, you are entitled to it. MANY reports state that the New Avalon, is LESS comfortable then earlier models, so all of those reporters are also nuts?
The only Chevy I've owned in my 45+ years of driving was a 1966 Impala 2 door coupe - which was a great car for what that's worth.
NOTE: I have owned 4 Avalons, and currently own a 2012. I think the Toyota's and Avalon in general are great cars, so no need to preach to me.
Long Beach residents will easily recognize the surroundings in this video!
Does this car have an amplifier?
Great video
GOOD REVIEW BUT WHY IS THE GUY IS ACTING LIKE HE JUST STOLD THE CAR FROM SOMEONE?
Hmmmm stold?
I know, he has that funny little smirk on his face like, "Hehehe... I got away with it!"
Big Toyota's have ALWAYS been amazing, I truly wish the Avalon followed it's Japanese brethren (the Crown specifically) and offered RWD, because then, it'd be perfect (slight transmission hump notwithstanding).
Well fwd cars are better at gas mileage, plus having a rwd and awd will have a hump in the backseat, so it's perfect being fwd. Well there is an AWD Avalon though now.
RWD: great for getting stuck in the snow
???
I traded my 2013 Avalon in after 2300 miles, because it was Noisy, uncomfortable, I could feel damn near ever bump:(
Some of the noise I was told was from the Low Profile 18" tires (very loud at highway speeds.
The rough ride was unexceptional.
I DID like the Tech Package (mine was a Loaded LTD)
I liked the quiet wipers
DID NOT like the smaller trunk opening
DID NOT like the smaller interior
DID NOT like the stiffer ride
I guess I should have knew, seeing this is a Sports sedan

I simply stated that the 2013 was not the Luxury Car I was hoping for. It was a great car, and I miss many of the features it had, it's just not the "Floaty, Cushy riding Avalon of earlier ones. Hell even toyota states that fact!
I'm 16 and this is gonna be my first car!!!! :D
gunkid002 You’re 21 by now so did you get it?
@@penvon 🤣🤣🤣🤣 kid probably realised life by now
@@veedjohnson IKR 😂
They need to make limited amount with all steel accents and a V8 to keep up the Rolls-Royce and Bentley buyers.
has anyone had an issue with the front driver air conditioner going out but it works everywhere else?
The Avalon is not a sports sedan, and the ride in the Avalon is more tied down than the previous floaty Avalon. Still it has a very comfortable ride, it's also the most comfortable and quietest car in it's class. Add stellar quality and reliability those American pieces of junk can't compete. You must have had a Chevy Impala you're confusing this with. Either that or your nuts.
Not a fan of the HUGE grille. I actualy liked the style of the old Avalon. Big cars are supposed to look old and look like a boat. The new one doesen't.
Kelley,Edmunds etc always act so informed but leave out the fact that the '13,'14 & '15 Avalons have a stiffer suspension.Toyota softened it again with the '16 models. That said : I'd still get these Avalons because they're still smoother than their competitors which are nothing but rolling pieces of junk, especially the Chrysler 300.
supple suspension?? are you kidding me! I feel every bump in mine!!
u comment this same crap on every avalon video on youtube. are you done? hopefully you got that out of your system now.
Good Job Toyota!!!
I like this new Avalon And think its a winner! As for that wild skinny kid test driving it in the video here he needs to remain fun and cool. ;)
How much today
3.5 lit. & 268 HP??
ARE U KIDDING ME??
Just give me the Toyota Avalon limited and I will be happy but I will say at got to be a 2010 Avalon
does lexus es 350 has even more comfort/softer suspension than the already very cushy avalon ?
MUCH nice interior, 80lbs of sound deadening. Same drive train, suspension might be tuned to be softer however.
Work out whether the extra dollars is worth it. But I think this car makes the ES kind of meaningless. If you want a Lexus, then get an IS or GS.
Probably but this Avalon looks way better. The current ES, on the other hand, looks fineee
A friend of mine just got this as her first car! She's 17. I didn't think it was too fitting for her age but.. That's none of my business
true that!!! usually more mature attitudes get the Avalon (executives/pensioners) ... Not exactly the type of car most young people care for, lol
lol my first car was and still is a 1995 toyota avalon and i am freaking in love with it!
Dont like em but Toyotas sell better and for more than most other brands.
It's called the Azera.
that's because at one time Ford owned Aston Martin.
You must be joking
since when do Japanese manufacturers make V8's ?
Cletus Matthews Since 80s lol U need get from under that rock
nice car
beauty
248hp??? Give me my Impala back
*268
o y I say it's have to be a 2010 because I have a 2003 man you can beat that Ride and that is y I want that 2010
I think I would go with the 2014 kia cadenza
Cadenza is hideous and has a poor resale value.
looks just like a bigger camry with new grill nothing new
هذا حسن كتبي حقهم
هههههه مرينا من هنا يابو .. سلامي
that's cause they stole the new grill from ford who stole it from Aston Martin.
still looks boring, and that grill is obnoxious. wayyyy too big. but the iterior looks very nice. think id still rather have a 300.
Toyota is not copying Hyundai. I don't like Hyundai.
I thought this was new car for hyundai lol~
Joking about what?
Is it just me or does the front of this car look like its bored...... It looks all like -__-
At the end of the day... YOU'RE the idiot if you were stupid enough to purchase an expensive ass car WITHOUT doing your homework on it. I'm not even in the market to buy a new car, let alone an Avalon, and I can probably school you around the block on it's features. Who buys a car without taking it on a test drive to see how it rides and handles? IF you want to blame someone, look in the mirror. I have seen review after review, which has stated the Avalon's ride is much harsher in the new model.
Wow. Most Crome on any dash. Blinding in sunny states. Dumb.
Looks like the Azera...
So the avalon gets a real automatic transmission, but the avalon based ES350 gets a cvt. thats so unfair.
I don't understand, the ES350 has a 6 speed auto.
Come on. I know the Toyota bias is heavy with KBB but I was shocked when I saw you commend the capacitive buttons. That is always a negative point on these reviews.
Toyota is the inferior car when compared to ford dodge chevy kia
lmao, then pray tell why Toyotas last a hell of lot longer than Chevy/Kia, etc +MrRussian2023
They don't last any longer than most brands now. Everyone makes such good products that if you just take care of it, it'll run forever. domestic brands have really stepped it up.
+Chad Yost Not true! Consumer reports on all auto manufacturers quality and reliability ratings for 2016 and once again Lexus 1st and very close behind Toyota are comfortably ahead of there nearest competitors. For example, Honda came in 8th Chevy 16, Mercedes 21, Cadillac 18, Nissan cars were like 13th, and Chrysler products are way down there at #22 the biggest surprise to me was that Audi vehicles came in a (distant) 3rd, but 3rd none the less behind Toyota!
This car is so boring. For that price if like to get something that will get a compliment by someone non-Asian
i beg to differ!!! resale on these suck!!
rather drive a TDI Passat
looks a lot like the Hyundai Sonata...
Micah! Just marry me! LOL
Is it me or is Toyota copying Hyundai? Oh and Micah makin the music? The dude is awesome!
