    Nice review. Btw, temperature for weather reports is measured as shade temperature. That's why your thermometer left out in the sun is reading hotter than the weather reading.

      Being on the ground didn't help. The ground is hotter than the air. Solar heat gain.

    I would like to see some more closable vents to catch those cooler breezes. Perhaps opening those lower underside triangular parts of the sides. I could easily see those having zips along each of the edges to allow for left, right and bottom openings to allow for directional capture of any prevailing breeze. And because they are partially sheltered they would be more protected from direct sunlight entering the pod, unlike those portholes

    wont be long untill a lot of tents offer a shinny reflective rain fly/sun shield, in fact if this shelter had a second refective cover/rain fly with air flow between it might make its high price a bit more acceptable, mabey include a solar powered fan,

  • @billywill903
    @billywill903 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    This thing would never work in the south. Not enough windows. When it’s hot and muggy u need as much air flow as u can get. Those tiny ports wouldn’t do a thing

    • @brettlaw920
      @brettlaw920 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In desert environments you can take advantage of evaporative cooling. That isn't an option in muggy environments. Better to spend the money on solar panels, a tarp, and a legitimate cooling system. Downside of evaporative cooling is the need for a reliable water source.

    I think the poor man's solution is to buy the cheaper tent and setup a reflective tarp over it. Might not work as well, but I bet having a big reflective emergency type tarp/blanket over the cheaper tent would definitely help the less expensive option.

    From what I've heard and what I've read about these things they're great the cube design is always been super strong and the material that they're made out of is very good waterproof well insulated the only problem is the price on these things the average everyday Joe cannot afford one I am definitely the average everyday Joe I love how they connect together or at least the bigger ones do you can make a whole city out of them but then again for the larger ones over $2,000 are you kidding me most people cannot afford that that is the only downside other than that I would definitely own one. And if they can make them airtight to hold oxygen they could probably sell them to NASA for the next Mars Landing

      @@deweyjohnson783 thanks for the reply Dewey I appreciate it much yeah 399 I still wouldn't pay that looks like a very convenient piece for sure but I mean you got to pay for a zip in floor and that's zippin so that's not waterproof I think if I was going to Shell out the cash for that I would prefer the Russian design winter tent. Check that one out for sure it's on Survival Russia. It has way more options and sets up basically like a umbrella oh, and is so insulated that it would probably be great for the summer time to as far as weight goes they're both heavy. Anyway thanks again stay safe stay well and as always God bless.

    a big tarp hanging on top of a regular tent would do a better job in desert , more ventilation and much more versatile. although I do think this insulated tent can benefit in a cold camping site, if it’s in dark color to absorb heat from the sun.

    Stupid idea. I know it's for the desert but still, those windows are rain catchers, and maybe a dusting of snow, but anymore and that roof would collapse. Plus the weight and cost? Throw a tarp up to block the sun, buy a tent with really large window openings, something, and you'll have the same for a few bucks.

    No discussion of surviving in the heat should start anywhere but with shade. Anyone who has ever spent any time where it is that hot can verify this. Crawling inside an insulated box sitting out in the sun should appear to anyone to be the stupidest possible thing we could do. The idea that they are so proud of all their air vents should demonstrate that they are trying to solve the problem that they have created by having walls in the first place.Observing the behavior of animals who live in the heat will show that seeking shade first, and water second are their two top priorities. This is why many desert creatures are only active at night. Direct sunlight on you, your clothing, or your shelter is enemy number one. A simple canopy providing shade will run rings around any of these super high tech shelters that appear to believe that being inside four walls is somehow necessary to shelter someone from heat. How such a notion came to be, I do not know. Besides being in a cave, or some other version of underground, the only enclosure I’m interested in is one for keeping out bugs, but offering as little resistance to air flow as possible. Especially in places shown here with their isn’t a tree in sight for miles, unless you can find a sufficient rock overhang, including a shade canopy of some kind that shades the entire structure two or 3 feet above the structure itself would probably double its performance. A ‘rain fly’ should would great for this.

    Interesting, but, no one is camping in this ugly, expensive pod/tent, no one, no where. I dare say, until the company can convince normal people to spend their own money, then spend a few camping trips, through the heat of the desert, the rain of a few thunderstorms, then the snow of a blizzard, is anyone going to give this thing a glowing endorsement. I am a tarp camper, quick, cheap, dependable in all weather. If I need a tent, in the desert, and it may be possible, some day, I know my tarp will suffice. It will not cost what that ugly, expensive pod costs. BTW money is not my issue. I have much experience in the heat of multiple deserts of the world. Shade, breeze, water, those are the issues of the desert heat. Texas

    I just found the shift pod a week ago because I was looking for the absolute BEST Four Season shelter because I want to combine it with my invention, a Rocket Stove
    (in the-ground) Earthen Thermal Mass Heating System! It will heat a 100 +/- shelter easily, AND
    It will help keep it cool in summer also because Earth temps are always lower than ambient temperature...
    Tested in multiple locations king of hammers burning Man a lot of emergency situations they've improving intestine that's what I want to work with. They used YKK zippers and carbon graphite hubs and struts I was so impressed with her system just blown away like I had envisioned, EXACTLY what I envisioned An Ice Fishing Shelter Hub on steroids, that will be good for all ALL seasons Cold and hot weather both and high winds which I think we're going to be having to deal with more and more they're like a perfect emergency shelter and that's what I've been looking for for 20 years actually since I had a picture burned into my mind about 40 years ago of a bunch of tents across a pasture and I KNEW that they were refugees and if I didn't do something to help them they would die and then in the year 2000, 20 years later I had a powerful, -like real-time real-life Technicolor
    -like-I-was-there, vision of an underground house and a homeless Family. That shook up my world,
    charged me up and set me on a course that's included a website, a book, and a TH-cam channel ALL with the same name; How To Get Out Of Babylon and ALL trying to figure out how to help homeless people in horrible and emergency situations.
    I think this is what I've come to other than building houses underground we need to have some shelter that will absolutely stand up to high winds and snow and ice and extreme temperatures; we will see heat and cold and this is like the most PERFECT thing I've ever found;
    "Space Age Tent for Space Age Conditions!!"
