    I have been off of work for the past week due to a heart incident, I found your channel and have been binging on your videos on Aspire and Vectric. You have no idea how much you have helped me with my CNC work. I bought a ShopBot in 2015 and because I haven't had any good training it has pretty much just sat there. I have upgraded to 10 and I have a few new projects in the works to make this thing pay for itself, thank you, Mark, for the time to do this.

    One day, I decided to just spend some time fooling around with texture tool paths. One of the interesting things I did was to create two (or, more?) tool paths on the same project -- one with a positive raster angle and the other with a negative angle. Cut one right over the top of the other. Just trying different angles and patterns. As you mentioned, it can really eat up the machining time, but some of the effects can be quite striking. Probably only practical for "artsy" projects.
    As always, Mark, really enjoyable and informative. Thanks!

      @MarkLindsayCNC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much, Jim! In playing around with several techniques, I've come up with some absolutely fantastic looking effects, but the machining time on some of them have kept me from actually carving them. That's really easy to do. Maybe one day I'll get brave, grab a sammich (or two,) and cut one of them. It'll be a long carve, but hey...

    Mark, Not sure if you have an updated Video but it took me a few since I run version 10.515. It turns out you no longer select the 1/4" clearance tool path in the profile screen with a check box. You simply select or add a second tool bit in the select tool bit dialog box. Vcarve automatically breaks this up into two files when you hit "Calculate". Hope this helps. I like your presentation in this video so that was my only hurdle but the help screens got me there quickly.

    Mark, not sure if you will get this question a couple years after posting this video. I am trying to add some texture to some knife scales that am machining on my cnc. I have my right side handle/scale with my outside profile and a couple through holes as well as the texture that I want. Is there any way to copy/paste or create the exact same texture/pattern on left side handle/scale? I tried to copy/paste and flip but that is only working for the shape/profile. When I then go to run the same values on this left side scale for the texture toolpath I get a completely different looking texture.

    Mark thanks for all the videos, I’m trying to find a video which talk about speeding up the process. I’m new to Vectric Pro, I created a simple small catch all tray. The carving time it showing me is about 7 hours. Do you have a video which can help with that?

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did a video last year in response to a viewer's question about speeding up 3D carving times. Although his question was about 3D carving, a lot of the info applies to all carving/cutting. Basically, it comes down to your Stepover, Feed Rate, and Plunge rate for any given bit or tool. Here's a link to that video: th-cam.com/video/ILPNA8g46Pc/w-d-xo.html

    Mark as a beginer I'm using the vector free software to learn before I make a decision on a machine. I dont have a location to adda larger area clearance tool. How iis that located? Many thanks for all your great information

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Look right beneath the box where you enter the cut depth of the toolpath, and make sure there's a checkmark next to "Show advanced toolpath options." Do know that not all toolpaths offer the larger area clearance tool option, as they're not designed to use more than one tool. For example, Profile toolpaths, Drilling toolpaths, Quick Engrave toolpaths, etc. do not offer a larger area clearance tool option, as the toolpath is designed to use only one bit.

    Mark we do value your opinion. Can you explain how you decide that you have reached the max feed rate on a bit doing lets say this texture sample video here. I noticed that your.25 ballnose bit was set at 40ipm. you side that that was slow. So what I would like to see is a video on your machine running at 40ipm and then you stepping up the feed rate to what you think is the max. So that we could listen to your machine. That may not be anything you are willing to do I understand. thanks for another great video. Are all of the textures you brought up the same in 9.5 or has vectric 10 ones different. Jeff Peters

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Jeff. I tried to make a video that demonstrated the chatter I talk about when referring to feed rates, but it's very hard to capture audio that's usable in a video like that. Simply put, the router is too loud. It's so loud, it drowns out the sound of the bit just enough that you can't make heads or tails of it. When I get my shop built and get a spindle that's a lot quieter, I certainly plan on making just such a video.
      Basically, you're listening and watching for vibration, or any sign that the bit is struggling to cut the wood. If it looks like it's trying to force it through the material, instead of cutting it, you need to slow down the feed rate or raise the RPM of the spindle/router. If you can increase the RPM through the control software (without having to physically touch the router/spindle,) then you might be able to maintain that feed rate. If not, slow down the feed rate until the bit is cutting smoothly, and let it run at that rate.

      Acrylic engraving can be great but akso can be difficult due to characteristics of actylic. Note cast acrylic machines much better than extruded acrylic. Extruded acrylic can gum up cause major issues.

      Thank you, Willy! To zoom in, I use the scroll wheel on my mouse. It only zooms in to the center of the 3D view, so you have to pan to the spot you want to look at. To do that, I press down on the mouse wheel and pan that way.

    Under the Tab of "Pocket Toolpaths" I do not have the option for Large Area Clearance Tool.....I have Vcarve Pro. Is there an option I am missing to have that option turned on?

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on which version you have. The "Large Area Clearance Tool" check box was removed starting with Version 10.5. If you have version 10.5 or later, you no longer need to worry about that. You can just click the SELECT button in the TOOLS area, and add as many tools as you like, one at a time. That will do the same thing as the "Large Area Clearance Tool" option did in the older versions.
