I recently saw a video that talks about what the Normandy veterans do each year to honor our soldiers that fell in the D-Day invasion. They take sand from the beach and rub it on the tombstones. It causes the writing and symbols to shine like gold in sunlight. It makes reading the names easy. They do this to honor the soldiers who helped give them freedom.

Truly breathtaking accounts of so many men with such uncommon Valor that it seemed common, but was anything but that. It is staggering to think of all these tender young men being forged in the fires of such fierce combat and so many of these Medal of Honor recipients were wounded multiple times and yet persisted to perform above and beyond their duty to save and secure the safety of their brothers and take out the enemy, many sacrificing themselves to achieve these brave feats of service. Thank you, TDIH for commemorating these distinguished American Heroes on the Anniversary of D-Day. God bless and rest every one of these devoted, selfless, men of honor and pure guts. I am humbled and in awe of the magnitude of their love and sacrifice and am forever grateful and indebted to their strong, beautiful souls. 😔🇺🇸🙏❤️🙏
It seems that there is no end to the bravery and sacrifice this generation is so fondly remembered. All the while they were fighting overseas and far away their mothers, wives and sisters were working the factory jobs so man of those military men would’ve been working. What an incredible generation.
I might not like war but I can recognise and respect duty, dedication and heroism. These men fully deserve the accolades attributed them. They truly are the best of the best. Mark, Australia.

This brought tears. My uncle was in the 29th ID…on Omaha, my Dad was in the Pacific. All the brothers went; and all came home. Broken, battered and changed, but came home. They are all gone now, but this greatest generation is in God’s loving arms. And I believe the Lord is playing Glenn Miller for them. +

Nice job on the D-Day heroes. I really enjoy your posts even though many bring tears to my eyes. Also, I have a small request. June 10 is the 81st anniversary of the sinking of USS Maddox (DD-622) during the Invasion of Sicily. My uncle (Proctor Poe) died on that ship. Not much is known of my uncle, the ship’s Commander, Eugene S. Sarsfield, saved the lives of 74 crewmen before going down with the ship. I wouls love to learn more about it. Thank you. Steve Russell

I'd like you to check out William Edward Boatman, 36th Division, 141st battalion, who was a member of the "Lost Battalion" of World War II. His valor was equal to these men, but he was awarded the Silver Star. That was, I am certain, because general Dahlquist was criminally negligent in his command. Also, when meeting the Nisei who rescued Bill's unit after his sacrifice, Dahlquist disgraced himself further... in front of the press... with his reaction. My uncle literally killed a truckload of Waffen SS in a hopeless situation in order to give his fellow soldiers a chance at survival. And had he not made the choice he did, that film, Go For Broke, would never have been made. You see, they all would have been killed or captured. By the way, both Hitler and Eisenhower had a personal interest in this action.

Remember the airborne command only allowed one MOH per battle. Very few men were recommended for awards. At the end of the war many who had fought the whole war didn’t have enough points to come home first and were slated to go to Japan.

That has never been corrected.
We discussed it
One that should have received the medal of honor was Desmond Doss, he was truly a selflessness man.
He did receive the Medal of Honor for his heroics at Okinawa!!!!!
He was an inspiring man !!! Selfless devotion to God and the men in his company !
@@ThisDate Thank for the info, I just wish he would have been mentioned on this video.
The video is about moh winners from dday not all of WWII
@@bgold2007 On October 12, 1945, President Harry S. Truman presented Doss with the Medal of Honor. So, he was left out of this video.

Amen!
I foresee a medal of honor series coming.
We're thinking about it. Good idea?
@ThisDate absolutely great idea. Especially the details you've been able to get.
Thanks!
@@ThisDate: YES, totally good idea ! Can't wait to see it !
Have you done anything on Jackie Coogan yet? He flew a glider in World War II
Working on a video on him!
Thank you, Nick. I'm sure it took hours and hours of research.
It did. Spent a lot of time, but well worth. We're humbles to tell their stories. 🙏🏼🇺🇸
Bud Hawks looks at Truman with a look that says "ah shucks".
Totally!
Remember the airborne command only allowed one MOH per battle. Very few men were recommended for awards. At the end of the war many who had fought the whole war didn’t have enough points to come home first and were slated to go to Japan.
So true. Amazing!
