My father in law, who doesn’t enjoy any libations, was given a bottle of Chivas Royal Paisley some 30 plus years ago at an office party in New Jersey……he was never going to open it and gave the bottle to me recently….It is rich with vanilla and caramel notes…wonderful…must be close to 40 years old…I’m no expert, but this seems to have aged well;)
@Apotter83 exactly. Not suggesting this is how you should drink it but it is done for appreciation of the full aroma of the whisky. When it comes to drinking the whisky enjoy it however you like it best. We sampled the twenty five year old and I have to say it was unbelievable neat and equally as good, but a little more floral once a few drops of water were added.
I love this guy! Great informative Chivas and Strathisla reviews. Which single malts are included in the 18 and 25 year old blend...Strathisla? Macallan?
I have a question SingleMaltTv? The only thing I did not like about the Regal 18 was it did not have a complex taste. It was too light in flavor. Want I want in a blended Scotch is Johnnie Walker Blue Label and or Gold Label. So does Chivas 25 have a super smooth and complex taste like JOhnnie walker gold and blue label? Thanks W.T.
@wesleytaylorviadomus It is all very subjective but we sampled the 25 YO and feel it is one of the best blended whiskies we have ever tasted. Very complex, beautiful long and velvety finish and flavours that go on forever. Well worth the cost and, again, it is subjective , but in our opinion a good step ahead of Blue Label JW.
I really enjoyed the chivas 18 so will purchase the 25 on my wedding day coming up .. blue is a decent blend but its not and no where near the pinnacle of blends and I'm a big jw fan
i used to buy a bottle of this each year .$500.00 a pop. why, because money is only paper. i am not a rich guy.me and my dying mum would have some for Xmas before she pass on.
I find it ridiculous when a taster comments on the "wonderful deep color" of a whisky with added caramel coloring. However, Chivas 25 is a fine dram. I like seeing the color in the anticipation of knowing I will get a hint of vanilla bourbon or whether it looks like I'll get a mouthful of sherry. When it's colored, I have to set those anticipations aside. I also agree with the prior poster. 'Crystal clear' at ABV of less than 46% usually means chill filtering and it is not a mark of quality.
What’s the point in talking about the “wonderful colour” when it has had spirit caramel added? Also you’re incorrect about not wanting to select first fill sherry casks for a 25 year old scotch. Plenty of other distilleries use first fill sherry and it’s fantastic (Glengoyne 25, Glendronach 24 etc)
why is it that every video I watch on whiskey reviews they talk about tasting chocolate and nuts and caramel and fruityness. However I bought the chivas regal 12 and am seriously thinking about tossing it. To me all i taste is as if I am drinking mouthwash or hairspray. I don't taste any fruit or nuts or chocolate or any of that stuff that people say they taste in whiskey.
dabeast rek So what do you do just force yourself to drink it and hate it for the first little while and then eventually you get the taste for it? Cause I know I don't have anything wrong with my tastebuds. so it can't be that.
sjaak charmant Not necessarily. In colder climates you would put more water to release aromas. In warmer weather you dont need to add as much. I use a syringe. Protip? Try using tepid water... like 45C.. in smaller amounts (eg. 5-7ml with a syringe). The explosion of aromas is incredible. Similarly, cold tapwater which is what most people use, in winter could be quite cool. Hence they tend to pour a bit more to open the whiskey up. 5ml's makes very little difference if cold.
I don't like his way for 2 reasons: 1. He swirls it too much (it's over 40% alcohol, not wine) 2. He doesn't hold the whiskey in his mouth for 2 seconds! Just a marketing man, and not a real taster.
Yes I Know Adding A Little Water opens It Up, But Why The Fuck Do Have To Simmer Down A (25 Year Old Whiskey!!!!!!!!!!) If That Scotch Had Feelings, it would Be Insulted. Come On People THink!
I hate when anyone looks at the glass and says "Deep color" or " crystal clear" .... Deep color is mostly always a product of E150A, and even if it isn't, whose to say its not? That caramel color has ruined judging any whisky by its darkness unless it says otherwise right on the label. Crystal clear is a product of CHILL FILTRATION, something that people shouldn't bother to point out. Some of the best whiskys in the world are hazy in color! crystal clear whisky is less natural! Cheers!

@olaguma The 25 is an amazing whisky. We were lucky enough to sample it whilst filming. You will not be disappointed.
This is a killer whisky, worth the spend.
One of my favorite 🥃..

tlv music if you dont appreciate fine quality liquor, then you shouldn't buy it
@olaguma Yes go ahead and do it. You will be glad you did, it is an exceptional whisky.
@wesleytaylorviadomus It is really worth the money. One of the best whiskies we have ever sampled.

P.S. I Sadly Have Not Tried The 25 Year Old, But I'll Break My Bank When I Turn 25. Cheers.
Its a beautiful scotch!

+Deltarocks1 Then whatever you do don't buy Dewar's it has a floral note of model glue.
It takes years of practice to learn to taste. Some people can´t due to poor taste buds their only option is Seppuku.

Yeah, quite accurately
Price?
I do not believe the amount of water he put in that whisky.
true
did he just poor water into a 25 year old chivas regal...
+sjaak charmant most good whiskeys benefit from a bit of water, especially the cask strength ones. It opens up aroma 'like rain on wet grass'. Try it.
+ezra limm i use a few drops of water.. but he just trew a half cup in there. thats like a scotch and soda to me. in other words... rape

He poured way to much water, especially on a 25 yo.

None of that matters it taste like shit anyway

Whats this? This is not how to present Chivas Regal 25 yeas old. Go learn from Horst Luening.
@@elioandre6267 yeah cmon horst do an English review for this.
Horst, the OG legend
nothing more than a status symbol in a glass bud, don't forget to hold your pinky out.

Whiskey suddenly doesnt look so cool when you sit and smell, add water, put on a glass lid, smell some more, take a sip, and talk about gay stuff
Haha...true. I tend to be a bit more of a slop it in a glass and wash it down kinda guy.....enjoying the flavor of course
