This brings me back. When my Pops would get home at 7 PM after a long day, he and my mom would mix up a couple Chivas and soda with a twist and spend an hour with each other. Their ritual in a house of four crumb catchers and assorted strays.
They’re still married and holding hands in love after 61 years. Coincidence?

Chivas Regal 12-year was my introduction to Scotch. It was a great way to start. It has just enough complexity to make it interesting, but it is also light and approachable. I've since outgrown it as I have moved on to other things, but I'll always have a soft spot for it.

I have fond memories of Chivas Regal as it was the first whiskey I ever had when I was only 15 on a week long school holiday. Somehow we managed to sneak a bottle in without the techers finding out and it obviously didn't take a lot for us to get truly sloshed and the techers wondering the next morning why so many of us were looking more than a little jaded when we went abseiling. Probably not the best thing to do when you know you've got a challenging exercise the following morning. At least we were young enough when you didn't really suffer from hangovers as I do now at 50.

Chivas Regal 12 was my introduction to Scotch. As I began expanding out in the Scotch universe, I came to realize that Chivas Regal is actually a really nice "daily drinker". It's always pleasant, and won't break the bank. It gets a bad rep solely because it's a blended Scotch, and "isn't sophisticated enough to be taken seriously", according to a lot of Scotch drinkers. To this day it is still amongst the top 5 of my daily drinkers.
I should also add that "daily drinkers" does not mean that I drink on a daily basis. It means what I grab when I'm not celebrating something special.

Like many of us, this was my dad's drink and was my initial introduction to scotch. in fact, i was very put off of blends for a long time because of my memory of Chivas. Recently (some 40 years after my introduction to Chivas) a friend gave me a bottle of Chivas 12 and i tried it again. LOVED IT. Not only can i now appreciate the subtlety of it, but i found some very pleasant Pecan notes i did not remember. needless to say, i finished the bottle and thanks my friend profusely. BTW, anyone else find pecan in their Chivas? Just curious.

This used to be my Dad's everyday drinking scotch, until I introduced him to Talisker, which is now his favourite. It's a good lower midrange whisky and while I wouldn't buy it myself, preferring to save up and buy a better bottle less often, I'd quite happily drink this at a party or dinner with friends.

Chivas 12 is great and it's underrated in my opinion but I don't drink it straight often. Over winter I drank Baily's on ice with a shot of Chivas 12 and it was fantastic. I've tried some other whiskies with the Bailey's but nothing else compares to the Chivas 12 in the Baily's. There's something about the combination that does it for me.

A few years back on a guided whisky tasting with The Whisky Club, when they used to do them, we were introduced to Glencadam, apparently a "breakfast" whisky. We were told it only been released very rarely previously as it was a big component in Chivas. It was a beautiful soft, subtly complex Highland... I bought a bottle.

Chivas 12 was my intro to scotch. Its what my uncle drinks. By intro, it was 1 bottle. Not that it was bad, it just made me want to try others. Tried prob 15-20 scotches then stopped drinkin for awhile, started drinkin again with sour ales. Now im into bourbons and have just over 25 bottles since i started collecting around the end of jan beginning of feb. I did get my hands on chivas 25 (for like $70-$100) and maccallan speymalt (for a score, $200) when i was into scotches about 10+ yrs ago. I can see myself venturing back into scotches, but highlands and speysides. Chivas 12 was solid for an intro to scotch

Depending which country some are more popular than others. Hard to tell with so many fine ones. BUT when next to a fireplace in the cold mountains, Glenfiddich 👍

To be fair, peated scotch is the only scotch worth anything. IMO, of course. It otherwise just has too much working against it. Uniform mashbills (100% malted barley), used barrels (sometimes third or fourth fill), colder climate, no regulations against artificial coloring…

Chivas is a staple, a mainstay. Where I live I used to order Chivas and coke for my bar drinks instead of regular whiskey or rum n coke. It eventually became popular and people started ordering chivas over most other alternatives throughout my country. It just tasted better - and originally came at the same bar price LOL.

To be honest, after a couple of sipps, I added a tiny bit of water to it, to make it really smooth.
I payed 27 euro's for the 70cc bottle. Not bad at all! For 13 euro's more I could have Ballentines, which I like better. But that didn't came to my mind when I was at the store, unfortunately 😂
Edit: this one came on a 5 euro discount. But I certaintly don't regret it 😁

I've always preferred the Chivas Regal 18 to the 12, it's not really significantly more expensive than the 12 to knock itself out except as an ultra-frugal budget conscious decision and it sports mostly the same aromas but I feel it tastes a bit stronger and more differentiated than the 12.

For some reason every time I drink Chivas 12 or even 18 I get a really bad hangover the next day. But if I drink a single malt whisky I can go through most of the bottle and feel fine the next day? How does that work. Is it something in blended whiskys that does this? Well this blended whisky in particular.

I live next door to Chivas Regal distillery, just saying. A shame it's not Lagavulin, however I will take it!

I believe this is the NEW make of Chivas-12, and I like it -------- I do not know of ANY single malt or distillery in the olden days that did not go into blend, even OBAN in the Pattison blends which went bankrupt, OBAN closed 1923 temporarily. . .

I’m going to have to try this again as it was my first scotch and I found it utterly unpalatable. Now I’ve grown into all manner of scotches (Monkey Shoulder as my daily drinker) I might think differently about Chivas.

Just found a Chivas Regal 12 that my dad never open. He passed away 18 years ago andI was recently going through some of his old whiskeys and found this. He stopped drinking 25 years ago…. So my guess this whiskey is almost 37 years old (12 aged and purchased 25 years ago). Should I open it, drink it and celebrate my pop, or put it back and save it.

For me it’s the sort of whisky that I would never buy for myself but I wouldn’t be offended if someone gave me a bottle.

My mom´s favourite whiskey. And the only whiskey she would drink. And yeah, it´s good, actually very good.

I get 'a little smokey' on J Walker Black as well. I was not expecting it.

It's kind of famous for being smokey JW in comparison with their other bottles, I think it has Caol Ila in it. I don't taste smoke in Chivas 12 though
