The song was written by the Bee Gees , Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb, with Barry Gibb featured on backing vocals on the chorus. The song was produced by Barry Gibb , Karl Richardson and Albhy Galuten.Warwick stated in Wesley Hyatt's Billboard Book that she didn't love the song, but would have recorded it because she trusted the Bee Gees' verdict that it would be a hit. The song became Warwick's most successful solo release of the 1980s. The Bee Gees recorded a version with Barry Gibb as vocalist, which was released on the albums Their Greatest Hits, The Record and Love Songs. I love Barrys version!
Its really amazing. She did not want to do "Do you know the way to SanJose" either which was her third greatest hit of all time.
Not only did they do the backing vocals they also wrote it Barry did the demo tape and also produced it...
Only Barry is singing the background vocals.
She originally did not want to record this, she felt it wasn’t her kind of song, the BeeGees told her it was a hit, she trusted them, and sure enough it was a hit record for her. Barry Gibb singing in the background chorus.
Dionne Warwick has such a great voice. Vocals clear as glass!! "Deja Vu" is a favorite!
The real history behind this classic. The Bee Gees asked Clive could they work with her. Ms. Dionne and Clive agreed. With stipulation that Ms. Dionne was fond of them but stated that she did not to sound like a Bee Gees girl, but more of herself. They all agreed and they produced the "Heartbreaker album. Both the album and single was a success in 1983. Ms. Dionne like all the songs presented to her, but did not like the Heartbreaker song. However, the Bee Gees pleaded with her to re-record. The Bee Gees recorded it first WITHOUT any commercial success. Again, Ms. Dionne's recording turned it into a mega hit around the globe. That's the correct story. I am a huge fan of Ms. Dionne and I have studied most of her recordings (live too) and her history, lol!! She is the most underrated iconic legendary phenomenal vocalist of them all.
this is not completly right...bee gees recorded in 1991 (not before Dionne) and it was summit into their album "greatest hits" not like a single. Barry recorded the DEMO before the album but the bee gees recording was the year i told you before.
@@artxxx7832 My bad. Yeah that's right they did do it after Ms. Dionne. They wanted to record it it first, but after hearing the finished product they were very pleased the classic was done by her first.
Barry, Maurice & Robin wrote "I just want to be your Everything & Shadow Dancing," for younger brother Andy Gibb, They also wrote "If I can't have you" for Yvonne Elliman, They wrote for Barbara Streisand "What kind of Fool, Guilty & Woman in Love." Barry wrote "Islands in the Stream" for Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton, Kenny said "Barry Gibb, I don't even like this Song, we need to get Dolly Parton." Bee Gees also wrote "Chain Reaction" for Diana Ross and provided Backing Vocals. Barry wrote "Grease" for Frankie Valli, Barry 7 Robin wrote "Emotion" for Samantha Sang. Al Green did a great Cover of "How can you mend a broken Heart," it's in the movie "Book of Eli" Saturday Night Fever has alot of Bee Gees Hits.
She also collaborated and sang with "The Spinners" on their song: "Then Came You" which is another great song!!!

Walk On By came out in 1964 ..... I was 14 years old and was Mesmerized .. That song made her a House Hold Name ...❤❤❤❤❤
She had long career with a lot of hits. A few were - Walk on By / Alfie / I know I’ll Never Love this Way Again / Say A Little Prayer. Luther was a fan and remade two of her songs: A House is not a Home and So Amazing. She was Whitney Houston’s cousin as mentioned by someone below.

Whitney Houston's first cousin! SHE IS A LEGEND!! Dionne loved the Bee Gees and got them to write her a song, produce it, sing backup. She had dozens of hits in the 60's and 70's. Maurice Gibb cried when they gave it to Dionne because he knew it would be a big hit and thought that he and his brothers should sing it first!
I was very young and working for the Navy when this came out just as a relationship was ending so that's right where it takes me. Seemed like the end of the world then, little did I know how much better life would be after many twist and turns, so never think there is just one person for you, fake it till you make it 🙂
