    You know what. I have been doing this for years! When I first heard disco bass in the 70's there was no you tube tuition So I knew what notes where being played, and decided to try using different arrangements of thumb and fingers. I quickly settled on this and carried on!

      Hello Graeme
      Thanks for your post.
      You must have been one of the first to discover this technique.
      You have done what I always encourage: experiment and find what works for you.
      Kind regards,
      George

    The thumb is obviously a great option as well! Easy to do the palm mute+ thumb among other things. Nifty!

    thanks for share this tip. My dad is a guitar player and he teachs me how to play eléctric bass. He show me how to play funky disco músic using the same thumb technic that you use in this vídeo. And makes me funny to know that is something that really exist and is not something that we had invented. ahaha! Is really usefull and you can get a nice sound. I used this method a lot. Is good to see your vídeos. sorry for my english! thank you!

    I believe it's a natural technique when you switching to bass from guitar.. In fact this is so easy and natural you have to remind yourself "hey, that's not the way you paly bass!" ;)

    • @BassLessonsOnline
      @BassLessonsOnline  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, especially when coming from classical guitar technique. Thanks for your observation and comments.

    Hey! Nice vid! I'm a guitarist and have been now playing bass for a couple of months. My worry is about tone. With this technique it's definitely quicker and less physically fatiguing (especially from a guitarists angle), but do you find the "fleshy" bass tone is now gone on the strings since you've switched from resting to free stroke? You hardly use any of the flesh on the finger.

    • @BassLessonsOnline
      @BassLessonsOnline  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your comments, info and question. Yes, the tone is certainly different. I think we should attempt to find a technique and sound that best suits the circumstance and the music. The more "pointed" sound works well for this music genre, but in the end its up to our own musical taste.
      Kind regards,
      George

      Sorry, I have never posted anything. I just watch. I think my problem is I need to play more and get some exercise on the muscles needed.

    • @AbhiBass96
      @AbhiBass96 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same. But dont play for hours. Just play for few minutes get that muscle tension and stop. Come back after a while. It should go. Not entirely but you will be able to play more without getting the tension you used to get before.

      I agree. I see learning an instrument similar to improving in sports disciplines. We usually can't do 20 laps of the oval on the first attempt; and if we do, we'll hurt.

      @@BassLessonsOnline You're bad ass. I'm just ass. Nobody would accuse me of being a very good player on any instrument, but I get me song ideas across and let the good guys make the demo. I get off from the writing process. Maybe you might enjoy dropping a line on one of my tunes?

  • @AbhiBass96

    Hi. George. Is this close to the Classical Flamenco guitar technique or some say like an Arpeggio technique??? You know... its soft.. not very slappish and poppish sound and at the same time its easy on the wrist. Get back to me.

    • @BassLessonsOnline
      @BassLessonsOnline  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even within Flamenco playing, the techniques can vary. But, yes, this technique is not all that different. And, yes, it is easy on the wrist because the wrist is quite loose and straight.
      Kind regards,
      George

    I can always tell when somebody talks through 80% of the lesson then the 20% that's left is going to be pretty worthless. The dudes that talk a lot usually can't play.
