@@nunyabizniss3131truth right there. I was in a club. 1 minute I'm dancing and the next I get this weird feeling like something wasn't right. I went out to the deck looking south on the river (we were on a waterfront). I go inside to get a drink just in time to hear she'd died. I thought it was a joke at first but when it kept circulating even into the next day I knew it was true. She was set up. Mary J Blige even said so.

I was 14 when she passed. It was a Saturday night. We were watching America's Most Wanted and during commercial break, the news broke that Aaliyah's plane had crashed but they didn't say she died. So I was hoping and praying that she was alright. I had to wait until the show went off for the news to come on at 10. When they said the crash was fatal, my heart dropped. I was so heartbroken and the next day was just gloomy and all the radio stations were playing her music. Me and my cousin were on the phone crying 😢 we couldn't believe our girl was gone. Smh

I don’t remember it being night. I’m like 50/50 it was in the day. I remember being on my bed. So if it was at night, it barely reached 8 because summertime it gets dark late. Or maybe since you were watching America’s Most Wanted it isn’t live, so you knew about it after the news broke live news? Idk. Either way, we all knew what we were doing and that tells a lot.

I loved her but I think of her passing more because I was sitting there holding my infant son when the word of the crash came across the news. I held my son and remembered saying to myself that I was hurt for her mother. I couldn’t imagine her pain. Soon after that, my infant son Bryan Keyshaun Golden passed away. He was 2 months old on the day he left me. I then understood what it felt like to lose your world in a day. If not for God and my daughter who was 3 at the time, I would have been forever lost. I miss my son but I know he’s in a great place and so is “ baby girl”. Rest Peacefully to my son and to Aaliyah.

Aaliyah died two days before my 14th birthday. I remember when I found out clearly. My mummy called us and told us over the phone. She was in the USA (we're Trinidadians). I cried like a baby and for a long time after, it was always a sad day for me. My mom brought back a bootleg copy of the "Aaliyah" album and I wore that out. I lent it to my best friend at the time and we bonded even more over it. We especially liked "Those Were the Days". I never got into "More than a Woman" but loved and still love "Rock the Boat"! It's such a sensual song and you could really tell Aaliyah was truly stepping into her womanhood and sexuality at the time. I remember my friends I used to do the "wining in a circle" part with each other when we sang the song. Sixteen years later, my husband and I made that day more joyous by getting married. I'm glad that, in my life at least, though I will always think of her in the 25th Aug. it has a more beautiful connotation now.

I will never forget this day. I was booming the doctor Dolittle soundtrack as usual, then coming home from school hearing the news. I was in denial, every time I heard her name on the news, I would walk out of the living room, go to my room, and put on Are You That Somebody. I couldn’t watch Queen of the Damned or listen to her music from her 3rd album. Even as an 11 year old, it was too painful 😔

I miss Aaliyah a lot. Still have trouble accepting that the crash happened. I'm now 27 and she died when she was 22...crazy. Such a short time really. Supposedly she had premonitions of her death too. "It is dark in my favorite dream. Someone is following me. I don't know why. I'm scared. Then suddenly I lift off. Far away. How do I feel? As if I am swimming in the air. Free. Weightless. Nobody can reach me. Nobody can touch me. It's a wonderful feeling." She was having a recurring dream...maybe even an out of body experience. I used to have some recurring dreams that were pretty catastrophic...but they stopped. Later on I got in a car crash...looked bad, but I came out with only a broken foot. Makes me wonder if my dream had anything to do with it.

I am still haunted by what happened to her. I pray she didn't suffer in her last moments. She was a class act. NOBODY can ever match her unique talent.

She didn't wanna get on the plane, so she stayed behind in the vehicle they arrived in! Someone then came to check on her, gave her a sleeping pill, and then carried a sedated Aaliyah onto the plane! She had NO CLUE she was gonna meet the end

Destiny had a terrible set of cards for her. So devastating the way she passed and so young.
