Sachin is more than just a sportsman, when you see today's India, we are one of the leading economy, our sportspersons are winning international competition, we are one of the strongest military. It's a confident emerging India, but 20 years back we didn't have anything to inspire us, stories of pride were very few, growing up we were told things like westerners are better, our athletes couldn't compete with them. This was the time when Sachin who isn't a very heavy built person, a mild mannered diminutive indian would take on the best in the world and come on top, he inspired the entire generation, specially the ones who grew up in 90s that we could make it big and we weren't inferior to anyone, this innings in Sharjah when he single handedly took india to finals and won it, is one of the most memorable moments in our 72 year old history, it came at a time when events that made us proud as a nation were few and far between. So maybe one day Sachin's records will all be broken, but what will remain is a person who inspired a generation to take pride and confidence in themselves and to strive to be the best. That's why he is a national icon , a man irrespective of what religion, language or race you were you looked at him with pride and inspired you. You won't get another sachin tendulkar. He is not just records he represented India's aspiration.

Its a tad bit difficult for me. But Sachin would take precedence over Dhoni Always because of the surge of emotions he created.

When Sachin played he was not supported well by his team mates. He single handedly carried hopes of Indians ...a billion plus people all the time with humility. Nowadays there are more match winners. Dhoni is my absolute favourite as well but there is a reason Sachin is called god.

Sharjah Cup was a tri-series. Each teams played 4 matches each. India and New Zealand had same no. of points. In cricket, when two teams has same no. of points, team having higher net runrate will qualify to the next round. In this match, Australia batted first and India were chasing that score. For India to have higher runrate, India needed to score 238 and With this amazing innings, Sachin made sure India qualified for finals. And in finals, Sachin scored another amazing century and India won the Sharjah Cup(series).

I had goose bumps through out the video. This is arguably Sachin's greatest innings. Given the context ,the agression and the beauty of his innings. Coz at that time, Australia was considered invincible. So India qualified and in the finals Sachin again scored 134 runs to win the match and India won the trophy. There has been bigger innings by Sachin after that. Fir example Sachin was the first ever player to scorr 200 in an innings in the One Day format. But the desert storm remains one of his most special and memorable innings ever. I relived all the emotions that I felt back in 1998 as a 14 year old boy. Thanks for the video.

Dhoni had to work with legends past their prime and upcoming talent which was yet to taste success. Kohli was nowhere near great in 2011 as he is now. 2007 T20 World Cup was basically won by a bunch of unknowns .

Just adding my 2 cents here. Cricket has become a batsmen-friendly game with free hits, shorter boundaries, powerplays etc. Even DRS. Those days you were given LBW when you clearly nicked the ball and there was no technology to help. Years of analytical thinking and introduction to features such as powerplay has formed a certain template to the game that you need to hit the ball hard for the first 10 overs during field restrictions, your number 6 batsman need to be a "finisher" to get those quick runs at the end etc. Those days, it was just practical. You go down to the middle, play a few balls, see if the condition is good and play your innings depending on that. So yeah, comparing modern day cricket to the older generations is not valid. Although everyone are to be respected for their efforts, if I had to pick one based on the difficulty of conditions and challenges they faced, we have to give it to the older generation cricket players.

Sachin has always walked out when he knew he was out.....true sportsmanship ......thats one of the reasons why all respect him so much.....not many of them does that...

That's nice observation where you saw Sachin walking out even though called Not Out. Sachin and Adam Gilchrist are two gentlemen who never fake it and walk off immediately if they are out even though not called.
He always played in this electrifying situation or your can say he always played under this tremendous pressure of expectations. And this was not 1, 2 or 3 years he played in that pressure for almost quarter of a century. You can Google for his records and stats. I bet your jaw will be dropped to your feet.
