I cried for years when they left America. I used the max factor stick more but nothing lasted and covered like Max Factor foundations. I miss them to this day. Haven't found anything close at the price range it was sold in.

some 15 years ago, I started out w/ pancake makeup for my kit, just because it was cheaper and it gave good coverage and it had a reputation for it's longevity, I used Max Factor and believe it or not, Revlon still sold pancake in my country....I found that you really had to prep your skin well with an emollient moisturizer, let that sink and apply the foundation with a sea sponge then buffed or blended it with a big latex sponge specifically made for pancake formulas (brand was kokuryu) ,,,then we just kept on blending the F out of it with a sponge, to add coverage we just let one layer dry out and add the next one...too time consuming actually, then finally i patted loose powder (also from max factor) on the face and dusted off the excess with a powder brush...... phew....... then i sprayed a generous amount of evian to make it look "lifelike"

I used to work in the opera, where they used Ben Nye pancake makeup. They did not use sea sponges or that much water. You’re best to use a regular sponge because it has more surface area and it’s the same texture… I feel like you make this more difficult than it needs to be.

  • @Snail_Nailz
    @Snail_Nailz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I used to watch my grandma 👵 apply this:
-She used the triangular beauty sponges u get in a big bag (similar to ‘beauty blender’ but less dense).
-Did the same as u by wetting the pancake & sponging it on
-Then went back in with a new/clean damp sponge to blend & even it out
-Did her eyelashes & lipstick and then buffed the finish with a powder puff
I’ve only ever used ben nye for halloween or stage but now I’m wondering if I should consider it for everyday. A HUGE benefit to stage makeup is that it doesn’t rub off on ur clothes...which would actually be really nice day to day!

Really pretty. I’ve worn pancake makeup for a few months continually and I found that if you have acne prone skin, you really should stay away from pancake makeup. It clogs pores a lot more than a liquid or cream foundation. If you’re really into pancake makeup, I suggest that you stick to a makeup remover and exfoliator, cleanser routine religiously every night to minimize the breakouts.

Can I use this on older skin? I find foundations from the bottle too 'claggy" and my skin always feels really heavy. I feel that the layers of buffing would make my skin feel lighter and more comfortable. I also love the matt finish. @MyVintageLove  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You could definitely try, but this is quite unforgiving on any textures or wrinkles, so I’m not sure how it would look on older skin, to be honest. I have this exact foundation and I also have oily skin. I have tried everything to make it work and it either doesn't give enough coverage if I don't use enough water, or it goes on streaky and sinks into my pores if I use too much water. Fun fact: When these first came out they were only made for the film industry and as a result actresses used to steal huge amounts of them from the studio. So much that it became a real theft issue for the studios 😄😄😄

Yes! That’s part of the reason Max Factor started mass producing them! He realized he was on fo something!

Hmm, Could I use any pressed foundation powder to try out this technique?

Unfortunately no, the pancake foundation is different from modern powder foundation and I don't think the technique of adding water like this would work. If you do try it let me know how it works out!

Olá, estou a procura de um pancake a altura do descontinuado Max Factor.
E acabei comprando várias "bases em pó", como o Studio Fix powder foudation da Mac e realmente parece giz na pele, não funciona como um pancake

You can buy the Panstick, but not the pancake, it isn't for sale anymore!

I never use this much water. I used a damp makeup sponge and get a perfect high coverage foundation every time. I feel the wedge sponges work best with it. But I guess if you want a lighter coverage more water works.

It's one of those products where different techniques can be used. I imagine a wedge sponge would work well but I was trying to get as close as I could to how it would have been used back in the 30s.
