In war, the possibility of strange and unexpected events is high. For example, when an Iraqi MiG-25 was hunted by an F-5 in the northern region of Iran, that too by machine gun fire despite the video of the incident recorded by the fighter's machine gun camera, yet even the pilot and base commanders did not believe it. Until an Iraqi pilot who was captured a few days later confirmed that the MiG-25 had crashed in northern Iraq.

But Saddam Hussein bought advanced MiGs and Mirages. The American AWACS were giving information to the Iraqi army in a completely public manner. First, the flight formation of the MiGs was very close, and by hitting the MiG in the middle, the shrapnel of the Phoenix explosion and the MiG in the middle caused the two side MiGs to fall.
I was almost convinced until the pilots claimed it was a night encounter. Don't think them Iraqi Migs would fly in such a tight formation while entering enemy airspace at night.
flying tight formation is not because the enemy could not saw with their eyes, that is because that in enemy radar they shows just one aircraft so, pilot if Iraqi could fly in night

The Phoenix missile system was a great weapons platform.. The 14 could launch up to 7 Phoenix missiles at a time and track & hit 7 different fighter aircraft at a time.. It was very difficult to defeat a Phoenix when launched against you..
Due to the heavy warhead of the missile, this hunting is possible and has happened. Note that the MiGs are armed and their ammunition may have exploded at the same time. But about hunting from a distance of 150 km, I must say that it is not true. First, because of the limited number of missiles, the Iranian pilots were very precise and usually fired from a distance of 30 to 40 miles, so that the reaction time for the target was less and the chance of collision was increased. Second, the pilot to whom this hunt is attributed had left the Air Force before this date.

Tom Cooper's and Farzad Bishop's book definitely deserves to be heavily scrutinized. It features no bibliographical references whatsoever, and the authors themselves contend that the names of all of the alleged eyewitnesses were changed "for security concerns". Most importantly, none of the alleged primary source material can be autonomously cross-referenced for verification as absolutely none of it has been specified. Moreover, Cooper's sugarcoated assessment of the Tomcat's performance flies in the face of alternate accounts, such as Jeffrey L Ethel's 1989 Air Combat Magazine article, detailing a mock engagement between Chilean Air Force F-5s against F/A-18 and F-14 units of the USS John F Kennedy. On this occasion, the Chileans scored 56 mock kills for a loss of 16 of their own. Furthermore, Ethel himself details impressions from the Chilean pilots as being relatively unimpressed with the Tomcat's dogfighting capabilities, stating that they "were very surprised at how easy it was to detect, stalk, evade, and kill F-14s, in particular." Moreover, the late Jeffrey Ethel has long since established himself as a much more prolific, widely published, and respected authority on military aviation than Cooper or Bishop ever were. In fairness, there is considerable leeway to question the U.S. official account of what transpired in Iran in 1979, as it seems logistically unlikely that the Grumman engineers could have successfully managed to sabotage all of the AWG-9 fire control equipment prior to departure. But the opposing extremity, culminating in a literally too-good-to-be-true tally of 159 kills against three losses, should be inferred, not with a grain of salt, so much as with an oversized 50-acre salt mine.

Thank you for the elaborate comment! It is even possible that the crew believed they were attacking a single aircraft and in fact, they did shoot down three. But now, they are simply playing into the whole narrative by adding details.

Export mig 23 doesn't have ewr
True but DCS doesn't have any other MiG-23 other than MLD. It's a stand in.
It is Real Iranian are geniuses
Dude the story is totally true
There are sources beyond Cooper and Bishop now that corroborate their research.
@@okisoba No there aren't.
@@IronWarrior86 Yes, there are. Look mainly for serious academic sources after 2003.
TRENDS IN AIR-TO-AIR COMBAT - IMPLICATIONS FOR FUTURE AIR SUPERIORITY''' by John Stillion, 2015
- Author states Cooper's work as the best non-classified source about the F-14's performance during the Iran-Iraq War
THE IRAN-IRAQ WAR - A MILITARY AND STRATEGIC HISTORY''' by Williamson Murray and Kevin M. Woods, 2014
- Uses Iraqi documents captured after the 2003 invasion which has quotes from Iraqi transcripts characterizing how much Iraq feared Iranian F-14s. Includes a few quotes about the F-14 from Saddam Hussein himself. He said the F-14 has "hurt" his Air Force and that he was orchestrating attempts to get F-14 pilots to defect.
IMMORTAL - A MILITARY HISTORY OF IRAN AND ITS ARMED FORCES''' by Steven R. Ward, 2009
- Several anecdotes and reports of how well the F-14 did against the Iraqi Air Force.
Even some Western sources from before 2003 started to see reports of the F-14's actual performance during the Iran Iraq War:
ARABS AT WAR - MILITARY EFFECTIVENESS, 1948 - 1991''' by Kenneth M. Pollack, 2002
'FMFRP 3-203 LESSONS LEARNED: THE IRAN-IRAQ WAR VOLUME I''', U.S. Marine Corps Publication, 1990
@@okisoba Yea but we're talking about the kill claim of 159-3. There is no other confirmation available. It's purely an iranian claim.
@@IronWarrior86 It's not just an Iranian claim. There's a DoD report showing estimated Iraq aircraft shot down at something over 200 as of some date. It doesn't state the platforms responsible for shooting down the aircraft but seeing as the F-14 was Iran's main air superiority platform claims of 160 plus aren't that far fetched. I'll see if I can find the report online.

Let's say you get to choose, one time Tomcat killing three MiGs with one time Phoenix? Or a Tiger2 gun killing a Foxbat? Which one will you take as real? 😅
F-5 killing a Foxbat. I did a video on that and the circumstances seem believable. Besides, I think there was an Iraqi source confirming that the MiG was a writeoff.
🤣😂
No I don't think it happen. The Migs would have to be flying so close together like the Blue Angels and even our pilots don't do that. It takes special skills and training to get that good.
I have seen B747 flying in extreme close formation which happened once in the world only , this is perfectly possible my friend :)
@@ssg14 Not to say pilots can do it it is not taught for combat missions. Another thing is these are Arab Pilots with many not getting proper training and allowed to fly as much as need to perfect this type of flight!
This is a lie told by the Iranians and believed by people who have no experience or knowledge in aviation matters. But if you ask any pilot, can a missile shoot down three planes at once????? The answer is not possible at all.
