Local SF media videos always blame Coof for business closures. I call BS..crime and homelessness have reduced downtown shopping, nor sure if you have to hopscotch the feces piles as well..

The food court was amazing at one point. But the homeless went in and started grabbing people’s food. Security couldn’t bus the trays fast enough as the addicts would hover around seated customers like vultures and grab their leftovers if not outright pickpocket their bags as they sit. Every time the security removes them, you have (had) all the yuppie tech workers from Salesforce or whatnot start recording and throw their color commentary into a TikTok vid. It just became out of control and the. Covid hot, and we all know the rest.. ☠️

It's worse than being in a Third World Country. I was in Manila for Christmas, and the malls were packed. Also, retail thieves do not get away with stealing stuff in the stores. The City of SF has let this happen, and people are going to their local malls instead of coming to the city. Drive to Serramonte in Daly City, and you see the parking lot is packed.

I used to go to Westfield a lot when it was nicer down there. Sure, you had a few homeless mingling about the food court, but it was always packed with shoppers. There was even a Slanted Door offshoot restaurant near the MUNI exit/entrance. Blooms was a nice store, Nords was a nice store, the shops on all the upper levels were all nice. Bristol Farms (grocery store) was expensive but had a very good selection, like a mini Whole Foods. After Bloomingdale’s leaves, it’s pretty much officially Game Over.

It’s just dead. The mall barely has any normal shopping person in there. There’s only 10 stores at most in that mall still. It got ruined when Nordstrom, old navy’s, and more left. Downtown got ruined.
Bloomingdale entrance is btw 4th and 5th mission street. There is a parking structure across the street. So why aren't ppl coming to shop? No one gonna shopped when they refused to clean up the homelessness problem. No one gonna parked in that structure knowing their cars might be smashed in. It doesn't feel safe walking around that area. The entire place is empty of shoppers all year round. I'm surprised they waited this long to close down.

I’ve started visiting SF since September 2024. I honestly was scared at first, but surprisingly, it’s a lot safer and cleaner than I thought and what media/online is saying! I’ve been coming frequently almost 2-3x a week recently and I love it every time! There are certain parts that people need to be careful but overall S.F. is cleaner and safer based on my experience!! Yes a lot of stores and offices are vacant but I find S.F. still Beautiful and I love visiting it!! There are more good parts of S.F. than negative parts!! I think the S.F. is going through a whole new make over!! ❤❤

Walnut Creek, San Jose and Palo Alto are busy shopping malls. San Francisco won't allow cars on Market and the city is too risky for leisurely shopping.
I worked in that mall as recent as last year. Everyday was a grab and run highlight reel. Going into work was just as exciting, you play run the obstacle course of “don’t step on the puddle” or “how long can you hold your breath” Olympics.
It's a shame what these policies have produced. SF is one of the prettiest cities from a geographical perspective, but so incredibly abandoned from a human perspective. Graffiti, buildings that have been neglected if not just vacant, homeless or mentally ill populations allowed to do whatever they please, stealing from stores with zero downside, etc. The list could go on.

I lived in San Francisco from 91-03. I spent every Saturday going downtown and shopping at Westfield. I would enjoy going to SF Ballet and Opera. I even felt safe living in the Mission. The downfall of San Francisco started with Gavin Newsom and has gotten worse worse ever since. I remember the great Joe Alioto and Willie Brown. Say what you want about Willie, but he loved the city and turn it into a world class destination! Now San Francisco is a world class laughing stock!

I've parked in that structure to see films at the AMC Metreon Theater. My car has never been broken into there.
