- At the Ballincollig Winter Music Festival we were honoured to have the world renowned Tim O'Brien and his partner Jan Fabricius join us to play his beautifully written song - Brother Wind. Released in Tim's 1995 album called 'Rock in My Shoe'. He has performed this track on the main stage in countries all over the world and to be able to stand side by side and play this with Tim and Jan was truly a memory for life. Here's what transpired.

Gentlemen you are magnificent. I could listen to you fellas for hours.
My Dad passed two years ago and had always played the guitar alone somewhere in the house. Throughout my childhood and long after I had grown and left home he played. His happy place was with his guitar. The place he escaped from it all and found peace. Thinking to myself… had the offer to come join or check out a guitar club been close by for him, I guarantee he would of loved to have been a part of it.
I watch you all and my heart is full and I am taken back to beautiful memories of my Dad playing guitar and singing. I miss him so very much but can’t help but smile and find comfort while watching you all play and sing. He would have loved watching and playing along with you at home I am certain of it.
I stumbled across you fellas and am a fan forever. It’s no accident I stumbled across you.

That is a lovely story. I am from Ireland, play guitar and sing, and once played in an Irish Ballad group. But the joy and camaraderie that these lads have together is very rare, and they even say so themselves. There are no egos or fights involved, which is very rare.
They know how lucky they are. Music, guitar, singing - are all magical things. I am so glad your Dad enjoyed playing so much. Even on our own, it can indeed be our 'happy place".

I saw ‘Brother…’ in the thumbnail and screamed with joy, thinking it would be ‘Brothers in Arms’ (Dire Straits) you were doing, and was only a little disappointed to find it was a different song (that’s okay, I will LOVE your take on ‘Brother Wind’!)…

Oh wow. I've seen Tim at several Wheatland Music Festivals in Remus, Michigan. (There's some compilations of the festival on TH-cam, not necessarily with Tim, but they are worth checking out.) He's an extremely verstaile musician. His sister Mollie often came along. It's good to see him with those lads.
