I totally agree with you that a futuristic or sci-fi setting would be amazing. I'm sure it will happen someday. Also, it'd be great to see flashbacks of the previous world in the show, to show how it used to be and how it is now. Brilliant idea. I hope that someone steals it.

To be fair, GATE and Digimon also do interesting things with the "in another world" concept. But my point stands, most Isekai don't.
