This was eye opening. I live in MO and we pay a lot of taxes. Even if we live in apartments you still pay personal property taxes if you have a car. We also pay state tax lol . And depending on the city- you pay city tax. I think this is a good contrast .

We are thinking of moving. I want to live no more than 30 mins away from our new home. I work in a hospital so I need a nice 3 bedroom, 2 and a half bath and with a attached garage and a nice large yard with a good size kitchen. I really don't care too much for a big living room.

Question - I have the 100% rating from the Va and thinking about buying in north Dallas. I read that Texas gives a property tax exemption to vets with a rating of 100%. The houses I’m looking at are in the price range of 1.2-1.8 million. Would I be exempt from property taxes or is there a limit? Because if not= I’d save over 50k a year in pt lol

Nice list and spot on with the pros/cons. However, I disagree w/the tons of things to do. Dallas is boring as crap. Everything is so spread out. You mention the Cowboys, technically that's Arlington. I know folks consider it the "Metroplex" etc but just saying. That's part of the issue w/Dallas, you have drive out and across endless tollways and freeways. It's like wow. LA might be worst but Dallas is up there. The lack of racial diversity is also alarming. You definitely SEE the differences in the North vs South vs East sides. Dallas is a nice city but not for singles like an Atlanta, DC, NYC, etc. Similar to the social life, you have to 'know where to go' in order to enjoy or see the vibe. You have drive over to Addison or find the hidden, deep areas, which are usually in shopping centers/strip malls. Dallas has walkable areas but everyone in Texas seems to drive to point A to B. I don't think people in Dallas will walk a block if they can avoid it. An another "PRO" is the shopping. Dallas has an abundance of shopping options.

I live in Dallas I've been in Dallas for about 10 years now. I like it but I'm not in love with it. The people can be stuck up. Sometime when a black person has a white friend they will ignore you cuz they think they made it and that's pretty much anyway I guess. Sometime the people can be boring it has no culture. They don't know who they are. They don't know how to loosen up and have fun. If you're shopping they will stand in the middle of the house and block you and hold a conversation. Do not try Asian food do not it is terrible. Okay let me see the good things oh one more bad thing. Take your Tylenol with you because you will have a headache with all these potholes and bad roads. Now they don't know what driving is because they can't drive they will cut you off they don't abide by yield and stop sign some of them can't even read it. It's not really Dallas Texas . It's really Little Mexico Puerto Vallarta. Disguise. Now the good things about Dallas is going to the mall North Park or either grapevine hanging out. The club scene terrible. And even if you go out. And you like the dress up. Forget it they don't know fashions. The fashions in the mall but when you see the people they don't wear them. Now every black girl going to have the same hairstyle and the same pair of eyelashes on no individuality at all. I tried so I just gave it up. But besides that it's a nice town.
