Just got back to Chiangmai on Saturday, got my apartment on Tuesday and It’s in a Thai neighborhood. I am Loving it! Very quiet except for the occasional dog bark. Five minutes walk to 711, 10 min walk to Makro 8 min to Central Festival by car. Best part is 3500 baht a month rent! I paid $800 when I had my place in Las Vegas. Thanks for all of your vlogs much appreciated Brett. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
$110 a month sounds good! I drove a taxi for Frias about 5 yrs ago. Do you miss being in Vegas for March madness and how are you dealing with the air in Chiang Mai? Best of luck on your adventure🍻
@@lkabong5529 The only thing I miss is my friends to be honest. I drove for Lyft durimg March madness last year and dont miss it at all! Love the Thai people Ive made friends here and I dont miss living pay check to paycheck. Ive wanted to come here for many years...I wish Id done it sooner but Im glad I did it now🙏 Burning season will be over soon and the monsoon season will be great. It reminds me of L.A. in the 80s with the smog. Wear a 3m mask an I deal with it. The peace of mind is priceless...🙏
Another great video Brett. Thanks. I'm checking out your link. I like the way you just get to the point compared to other You Tubers in Chiang Mai or the rest of Thailand.
I enjoy a Thai - ish neighbourhood called Santitham because of it's proximity to the old town but the air come February is a big issue that's getting worse for sure from living there a few years ago. Keep up the informative videos.
I live outside of Chiang mai, 18 kilometres, yes, it is cheaper, have quite a few farangs live here too, can get western food here easy, and cheaper than in Chiang mai, why go into the city, no need too, great hamburgers and pizza, local if you want it, can get western breakfasts local too, great coffee shops, 1/2 city price, never been to Starbucks, rip off. All services cheaper too, in a village,
Hi Brett! Could you recommend a website to look for a long term accommodation in Chiang Mai? I'm currently living in Nimmanhaemin but want to find a cheaper option in other neighbourhoods. Thanks!
Hi Brett. Just curious about Chiang Mai. Its clearly a favourite for DM's but just wondering what the options are for 'water activities' as my preference for remote working location would be somewhere on the coast, but if I were to do Chiang Mai, what could I do as a beach alternative, and is it very accessible? (I'm thinking waterfalls, but not a case of having to drive 2hours to get there). For some who've never been to Chiang Mai this might be interesting ;)
Hey Brett I’m going to be moving to Chiangmai mai soon, any advice on living somewhere cheap north of the city as all the good gyms seem to be in the north and I’m an online so gym is life lol.
Hello Brett, Great and very informative video. I have a question for you. In the near future I plan on retiring in Chiang Mai and I am currently weighing all my options. Many people say that you should rent a cheap apartment for a month or more and explore Chiang Mai and then decide what area to live in. I am also on the fence on whether or not to buy or just rent a home or condo. Since my wife is Thai my options are better I believe. My question to you is....For a retiree on a fixed income of $2,500 - $3,000 USD a month, what area would you recommend? I would love a place with a nice pool & fitness room to keep my health in check and I would love to be within walking distance to a coffee shop and cafe's serving western breakfast. I realize that Nimman area would fit my criteria, but I hear it's much more expensive. If you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!!
+danillner - Thanks for your reply! I'm specifically wondering about terrestrial broadband though - fiber/cable/dsl for doing work from home. The scenario would be move to Thailand to build an online biz and have plenty of runway, and I wouldn't need fancy trendy Nimman coffee shops and co-working spaces (those are nice, but having more runway from cost savings is more important). But fast, reliable, affordable terrestrial broadband would be critical. So the question is - is it as good in the Thai neighborhoods as it is in Nimman & other digital nomad/expat bubble areas. I'd rather have my own broadband account and wifi router than depend on a wifi hotspot sitting in some inaccessible closet somewhere that might lose power until someone can be called to fix it, etc.
I live in a Thai neighborhood well outside any of the tourist areas and actually have MUCH better internet than when I lived in the middle of the city.
As long as you are willing to hire Thais for most jobs it's totally feasible. Never forget this general rule for any business or company in Thailand; "if a job can be performed by a Thai then a Thai must be hired for it" You may think I'm joking but really, this is Thailand...
If you have one person company there is need only for accountant - 1 consultation/mth and lawyer for visa reasons - 1 consultation/some longer period of time. That's how I think it should work, but I am not sure...
You can live all many places in thailand if youre very easy for eating.try to eat street food but it will be fine and clean.ive known that its terrible here.you can come up and make video in chiangrai or all of provincec in thailand..cool!! There are many many nice places here and you know that..5555!!
Thanks they don't speak English much in those neighborhoods? I need other options for transportation to get to the city? I won't drive a motorcycle mini type unless it got four wheels. Attack seats or $3 one way or both ways included in that price

I'm watching this on a balcony in Australia and two birds in my backyards keep responding to the bird calls in this video. Turns out they speak Thai!

How does the broadband internet compare in the digital nomad bubbles vs the thai neighborhoods on speed, uptime, and price?
When I was travelling for 2 weeks around Thailand there were everywhere good quality LTE, in BKK and even in the middle of Thai bay

+Adam Slater - Thanks! And how about the uptime/reliability? Rock solid?

Thanks Brett for the useful tips, one thing I'd like to know: How far is the closest Golf Course from Chiang Mai?

Promenada is an awesome mall outside of the centre
Could you make video about starting one person, IT company in Thailand? Is it possible or there are crazy restrictions? I would be very thankful.🙏
