Hey man, thank you so so much for this room-by-room walkthrough. I literally set up my Owlbear Rodeo map room by room with your video. It was super helpful and I feel a lot more familiar and comfortable now!! (BTW, for anyone curious, Owlbear Rodeo has Shadowdark character sheets! I'm a new DM and I've found Owlbear to be intuitive and easy but still pretty powerful, and a lot less janky than Roll20 for me. Def recommend checking it out!)
Very cool! I appreciate you doing this! Watching it gave me a level of familiarization that I can't get by just reading it. I pick up things more visually.
Appreciate your videos. I'm about to run it and these have been super helpful. I plan to show the dead Ettercap in Rm 9 just before the first pillars as well. My thought is that he made it just back before he collapsed dead. Otherwise I think it would be a stretch to think the players can get to the ettercap and while dealing with the issues of the pillars, have time to investigate. I suppose they could try to throw a grappling hook to drag it back from the middle of the room or something.... Anyway, I plan to run that room as you did!
I hope to get a game sometime tontry out Shadowdark. I joined a roll20 group but the DM changed the game from VTT to voice only so I left. I am excited to try ShadowDark and asked roll20 to put in an option for Shadowdark on the search options and hopefully it will become easier to find games for it.
Nice video. I'm glad I pulled up a chair and took it in. One thing I did notice with your torch light is the distance it casts light out to. Looks like you've got around 40ft. Is there a reason you put it out so far? The rules mention 30ft on torch light. Just curious if your distance is intentional for some reason. Maybe a software limit? Again, thanks for the content.
I'd be curious to see how the creatures would change, if at all, when the party comes back into the dungeon. It was pretty funny watching them run for their lives in the first session.
Thank you so much for your playthrough videos and your DM Tips on the Lost Citadel. I was wondering if you had a way to share your Roll20 work? I would like to run this but my creation skills in Roll20 aren't very good. Also, I couldn't find a Roll20 character sheet for Shadowdark so I was wondering how players viewed their characters and did their rolls. Thanks again. :)
You're welcome! I have links to videos on how I do it in most video descriptions (look for this heading in this video: D20PLAY, D&D, AND ROLL20 HOW-TO). I just use macros and not character sheets.
Try this in Roll20: Copy Paste Str: [[3d6]] Dex: [[3d6]] Con: [[3d6]] Int: [[3d6]] Wis: [[3d6]] Cha: [[3d6]] ------------------ Reroll if no 14+ if desired Pick Ancestry and Class ------------------ Then Copy Paste: HP: d4[[1d4]] d6[[1d6]] d8[[1d8]] Talent 1: [[2d6]] Talent 2: [[2d6]] (ignore if not human) Background: [[1d20]] GP: [[2d6*5]] Name: [[1d20]] (ignore if have own) ------------------- Purchase gear and play!
Could you nudge me to the voodoo used with the dynamic lighting that from the the users' perspectives you can still that the columns are red (not just black shadows; around 13:45)?
I like how you have everything in one place like this
Thanks!

Outstanding, thanks for making this!
My pleasure!

Thanks! I hope it goes well ... or not ;-)
Really looking forward to running this soon. These videos are are such a great resource. Thank you !
You’re welcome!
Thanks for sharing! Very inspirational!

Thank you! The torches are not intentionally 40', I'll have to double check my settings!

A few of the "set dressing" encounters are gone (the commoner and the unconscious beastman). I should replace those with something else.

Changing the dice used for rolling for random encounters every round is so smart
Thanks!
Hi, wonderful guide - thank you. You showed some Roll 20 macros for character generation. Are those linked anywhere?
Try this in Roll20:
Copy Paste
Str: [[3d6]]
Dex: [[3d6]]
Con: [[3d6]]
Int: [[3d6]]
Wis: [[3d6]]
Cha: [[3d6]]
------------------
Reroll if no 14+ if desired
Pick Ancestry and Class
------------------
Then Copy Paste:
HP: d4[[1d4]] d6[[1d6]] d8[[1d8]]
Talent 1: [[2d6]]
Talent 2: [[2d6]] (ignore if not human)
Background: [[1d20]]
GP: [[2d6*5]]
Name: [[1d20]] (ignore if have own)
-------------------
Purchase gear and play!
@@d20play thank you!
Yeah, I had a helluva time getting the map to line up. I thought it was me! 😅 I had to settle for close enough. How did you do it in Photoshop?
I used "Edit>Free Transform>Warp Mode"
@@d20play Thank you!
Could you nudge me to the voodoo used with the dynamic lighting that from the the users' perspectives you can still that the columns are red (not just black shadows; around 13:45)?
Hi Tony. That is one-way walls drawn around each pillar with vision allowed to go in but not out.
@@d20play Oh! Right there in front of my face. Too cool! Thanks!
You're welcome!
Would you be willing to share the photoshopped image with the correct gridlines?
You bet! Here it is: th-cam.com/users/postUgkx-A4H2ud75zoNsgGUhcgMV_xBkjNdBl6a
this looks a lot like tomb of horrors
It was a very fun old-school feeling adventure! Have you played it yet?
@d20play no not been playing for a while been looking but roll20 seems to have been taken over by a cult I prefer to not deal with
Where are the tips? This is just reading out loud
