    I've never had a counterbored milsurp shoot any different than a non counterbored gun /shrug/. Good advice still, Mike.

    I drilled some holes in the case and primer and made my 7.62x54R inert that I carried with me to the gun shows. As a collector of Mosins (now strictly Russian Imperial and WWI caliber conversions), I was easy to spot a counterbored barrel from the next aisle over if I could see the muzzle. But was always glad I had my bullet test around for the bores that reached the muzzle. Another nice vid illustrating this concept for all the newer collectors to milsurp that they can use!

    I never did this buying my first gun a 91/30 never refurbished but also not a Finnish capture. The bore was worn but still shot well. Unfortunately no longer have this particular gun wish I did. Cheers Mike

      All my mosins are counter bored but no more than maybe a inch and a half at most. Including my 91/24 Finnish capture. But all the counter bore rings on my guns are at or near the front sight. Mikes gun (The 91/30) on the other hand is nearly a sewer pipe. LOL

      @MikeB128  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@michaelbenjmitchell1 Not a sewer pipe, I just failed to clean it last time I fired it, and it's sat for a couple years. This rifle is the deepest counterboring I've seen on a Mosin, but it shoots quite well.

      @@MikeB128 Funny thing about my 91/24 it is the oldest surplus firearm I own at 95 years old and the rifling is still good past the counterbore after all those years. And I only paid $100 for it last summer and the only problem with it was a butchered stock which was replaced with a spare 91/30 stock.

      Martin the Music Making Musket Man I thought so, but when I took a good look with a bore snake afterwards, it was pretty much a smoothbore through the entire second half of the barrel. Sold it for $500 and put the funds towards a RIA 1903

      Well I don't. That's not what I like to do on my channel. I like to teach about History and stuff, not just troll and make fun of people. I tried it, it was an experiment, but I don't like doing those or the Fuddlore videos as it's just not really who I am. You should never look down the barrel of a firearm,unless you are not a total bellend and are capable of telling when a gun isnt loaded.
    Actually on second thought,if you think you should never do it then you probably shouldn't own any.

      I remember a couple of years ago I was at a pawn shop looking at a Arisaka , Type 99. I was looking down the barrel to check the bore condition and a much younger kid said I thought you should not look down a barrel of a rifle . Well first I opened the bolt and inspected the chamber to make sure it was not loaded and keep my hand / fingers away from the trigger

    This doesn’t have really anything to do with surplus, which is of course still awesome, but I was wondering if you happened to own a H&K MR556? The civilian version of the 416. They seem pretty rare and stupidly expensive. But from what I’ve seen they’re some of the greatest 556 rifles you can get. I was wondering if you happened to have access to one if you’d do a review. All the ones I’ve found seem boring and dishonest or probably sponsored or something.

    • @MikeB128

      I don't have any desire to own one, nor do I have the cash to afford one.
