Reza Shah, King Amanullah and his wife, Attaturk and Jinnah of Pakistan were more or less leaders with the same mindset. They all understood the need to modernize their Societies.
However Iranian Model of Economic Development failed because it did not provide maximum benefit to a maximum number of people.
Iranian cities prospered under the Shah due to massive oil resources, but, rural life went on in the same way more or less.
Yes, the White Revolution did give land to the poor peasants, but, I guess, the Iranian people had a religious strata which was largely ignored and led to the revolution.
Of course, there are many other factors which led to the toppling of Shah's regime, including raising the price of oil in the 1970s which caused massive supply-side shocks in the Industrialized Societies of the Western World.

Iran in the 1970s was a very backward country. It was an unsophisticated single product economy only exporting unrefined petroleum. The Shah who was placed in power by the British and the CIA after overthrowing Mosaddegh in the coup of 1953 was a stooge taking orders from the US, Britain and Israel. Iran under the Shah, was not even able to keep an accounting of its sale of petroleum. The Shah could do nothing of significance in world affairs, without first asking his handlers for permission. Female adult literacy more than tripled - from 24 percent in 1976 to 81 percent in 2016. Females who finished primary education increased from 36 percent in 1971 to 99 percent in 2017. The percentage of females in higher education (tertiary) increased by nearly 20 times - from 3 percent in 1978 to 59 percent in 2018. This video is very misleading.

Here we go again with the buzzwords: _"CIA"_ , _"Mossadegh"_ , _"1953"_ etc etc Jimmy boy, why are you event talking?
For those that care about facts, here is what actually happened:
Mossadegh wasn’t some democratically elected savior of Iran-he was appointed by the Shah. Let’s be clear: he tried to dissolve the very parliament that appointed him, violated Iran’s constitution, silenced opposition, and tanked the economy. He was nothing more than a power-hungry dictator in the making, and the counter-coup stopped him, rightfully so. Now he's been transformed into a so-called "hero" by revisionists pushing a communist fantasy. Also, let's not forget-the nationalization of Iran's oil was voted on before Mossadegh even took office.
The Shah appointed Mossadegh because he trusted him to do the job, not because of any heroic delusion. The Shah supported the idea of nationalizing Iran's oil but wanted it done responsibly, gradually-unlike Mossadegh, who recklessly escalated tensions with the West to disastrous results. The false narrative spun around the 1953 coup is a deliberate lie crafted by liberals to manufacture guilt and justify the rise of the Islamic Republic. They’ve repeated it so often that now people believe, "Well, we were wrong in '53, so Iranians somehow deserved Islamists!"
It’s time to drop the propaganda and face reality: Mossadegh wasn’t the hero of Iran-he was its downfall in the making.

Some of the saddest moments of my life are when I remember my father and how he would tell me about the shah, Iran under the shah, how beautiful life was over there. My father was forced to escape his homeland after the revolution- for criticism of the new Islamic government amongst his fellow friends in his work environment (he was a teacher) all of his friends was targeted for assassination and were executed- my father was the only person able to escape. He walked to Pakistan and almost died in the desert, from there went to Spain and lived there for years, then came to the United States (LA) where I was born. he was NEVER able to return home. He died of lukemia in 2016. My eyes water when I think of how ignorant I was to my father. I can never talk to him again and it breaks me. All he ever wanted was to return.

I'm sorry for the loss of your beloved father. Your short story about your father told us a lot about the Iran pre and post revolution periods, Indeed Iran under the Shah was great Iran where all people of all ethnicity lived with honor equal rights, where educated people have their own moral values in the society an respect, where Iran prestige were high all over the world, I'm from Pakistan but watched and researched on Shah regime especially. Shah and his father built Iran from the scratch and ashes, Shah was not a typical dictator like other monarchs and sheikh in the middle east, Shah was very educated and we saw how Iran developed in Shah regime with peace and honor. But the revolution was not imposed by clergies but it was the propaganda and hatred of the west to sabotage Iran developments and modernization plans, and to weakens the economy and lives of people, these propaganda begin with oil prices being raised by Shah regime to counter the inflations an imports from west and to invest in the economy. It is so sad with my broken heart how young Iranians had been brain washed by the west and clergy secrete alliances. All this happened due to this. A great nation and country had been hand over to illiterate and incompetent individuals and how great nation had been fell. USA and west did this cruelty to Iran people.
As far as about your father he was really a brave person to escape from cruelty and tortured led by extremists people, there were no Law at that times and it was full bloody environment. Respect Love and Greetings to you and your family from Pakistan.

There are quite a bit of details left out. For example, How the fact that M.R. Shah gave women and religious minorities the right to vote and be elected to the parliament that led to Khmeini uprising against him. He gave women the right to divorce. Iran was the second countr, After France, to appoint a ministry for the women's affirs. Khomeini's stark objection to women"s rights goes to the heart of his understanding of Islam and how women are nothing but beasts with a pleasant exterior so that the man would not be repulsed when using the beast to procreate. The role of the Mullas in the removal of M. Mosaddegh and in other watershed moments in Iran's history has turned them into the most hated by even religious people like my own grandfather who never missed a prayer. Also the documentary presents M. Mosaddegh in a very bad and comical light. I suggest anyone who wishes to know the truth about this honourable man to read "All the Shah's Men" by Stephen Kinzer.

Please take a break form the bottle of Jack Daniel's. Reza Shah was a stooge put into place by the British and the CIA. He fled Iran to Rome and had his dirty sister Ashraf (paid by the British to convince the Shah to sign the decree to overthrow Mosaddegh) and only returned to Iran after the British forced Mosaddegh from his position as prime minister. Shah was a coward who would not only take orders from his foreign overlords, but escaped from Iran whenever he trembled in fear.

Every single person who did not value him, then enjoy what happened after 1979 and live a happy life. A bunch of murderers and cleric terrorist ruling this beautiful country. Decades and millions of death and more will follow. The West also regrets the decision to replace the Shah with Khomeini but they try to benefit from it at the same time. Congratulations to the narrator on mangling every foreign word, saying 'English' when it should have been British (Empire) and calling the Indian Army, (made up almost entirely of Indians), 'English troops'.

If Iran didn’t have one we would have been colonized by the rest of the world in the late 1940s after WW2. Also the people who were arrested by Savak all wanted to overthrow the Shah. If I went and said I wanted to overthrow America’s congress then I’d be in jail too. Also Khomeini was a Kashmiri Indian. He wasn't from Iran whereas the Pahlavi dynasty (Shah means King), was Iranian to the core.
