If line 6 would drop an “HX One” but solely for their amp/cab models, I think folks would eat it up (especially if you were able to run dual amps and pan L/R). That being said, the Pod Express is awesome!!
The problem with that is that the sales for the Stomp will drop and profit margins for that the stomps are higher due to price difference. So they needed to come with this express which is way lower price to produce with HX One price almost. is all business
I think I need one of these. I really appreciate how quickly decent sounds can be had by twisting a few knobs. Very reminiscent, in a way, of my old POD 2.0. Me want.
Bro I've watched you for over a year now. The quality & composition of your daily tunes is way above average. I hope that you are working on or find time to write music for publication or just you.😊
Got mine today from Sweetwater. It’s a great deal and I am happy with the tone and the simplicity of using it. Great job Line 6. I am going to put it in my gig bag and use it for church worship every week.
Jonathan. I always come here for the demos of gear, but I stay for the playing. I’ve got some favorite guitar players as I’ve been playing for over 40 years. Steve Morse, Randy Rhoads, Guthrie Govan, Doug Rappaport, Scot Henderson…. Your playing is in their realm. You are a monster player. Your phrasing, note choice, vibrato… everything. I’m a fan.
This is perfect to have in your bag, go to a jam or fly date. Leave Floor or a board with a Stomp at the house. Walk in with a gig bag, boom. Excellent playing and tones as usual John.
I have both the IR-2 and this on order. I think the POD Express will be a must have to compliment the IR-2 and fill the FX side. Should do a demo using the FX loop of the IR2 with the POD Express.
It's bonkers how many useful sounds and features Line 6 has stuffed into the pedal. It's UI and price make it a great introduction to Modeling with a minimal investment of time and money. It sounds like it's bigger brothers.
For its size and practicality, what this product delivers is fantastic. I would buy one if I hadn't bought a Kemper Player a while ago. And the Kemper player, despite the price, delivers much more in a similar size. But it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a Pod Express as a backup.
Thanks for the Demo! As always im impressed with your playing and in my experience it is incredibly easy to get a very useable sound out of the POD Express. I haven't used my MX5 since i got mine.
care to elaborate on "useable sound"? I tried one at my local shop and I thought the sound quality was tinny and digital sounding when connected to an amp. I've been wondering if I'm imagining things given all the positive response.
It's more of an introduction into guitar effects rigs, but with sounds that are not generic. It has its limitations but you can dial in some good tones. I've been enjoying mine but it won't replace my Helix Floor
I bought this pedal on the spot: it’s like a catalyst in a box, I’ve an all tube power amp, & cabs at the ready. I disabled the cabs in a bank of the POD & I’m set. It’s wild to think that I was in the market for a Matchless Hotbox preamp & I think this thing covers more ground. Crazy!
Great review/demo, John. Your playing is just so inspiring! Especially the crunchy tone stuff. Sure wish you’d put together a bass/drums/guitar/vocal project. ✌🏼 🎶 🎸
The pod express does have the ability to overwrite all 21 of the preset spaces. it also has an instant preset mode in the global settings where it'll instantly load the preset as soon as you select it, which means you can set your presets in the order you'll be performing them and just cycle through them as you go. There's also a slower "load preset" setting that allows you to cycle through them without audibly loading each one. I think it would be neat to have button dials for the effects dials (there is a button on the AMP dial) so you can save a certain amount of reverb or whatever globally and recall it with different presets, but I'm not sure if it's more useful in a gig than just running through your 21 presets sequentially. It has two control inputs so you can also map a dual footswitch to control effects, volume, cycle presets, etc. I think that's close enough to what you're asking to consider it a gig-able unit.
I got mine today and plan to use it in church. I dialed in a great sounding ambient reverb tone already that would sound great just noodling with during prayer time.
Sweet POD Express tones! I'd adjust the gain down to start for each amp (after "Clean") as the preset has it set pretty high. Senior living in a tiny suite with no room for combo amps and pedalboard. Don't want a complex fx pedal with LED menus, just some knobs. I've ordered this, it has a lot going on. Bonus, it's from HX lineage. (Cancelled the IR-2 order.)
I still have a POD 2.0 I use for practice at home. I've found I use only a handful of sounds because there is so much unusable garbage on it. But the tones that are good are good. I've always wondered why there was so much hate for the POD. This POD Express thing sounds like a really practical replacement for my old POD 2.0.
The front panel interface is extremely well done and intuitiive imo. The sounds are okay. I didn't love the Distortion section very much. It's definitely a useable box though. I don't use modelers but not because I hate them. I just have an amp and I can get to my DAW using my Power Station and Two Notes Captor M to host IR's. THis box sure would save someone who doesn't already have an amp etc. a lot of space and dollars though. If I was going only use a modeler though, I'd probably take a step up to at least Helix or something in that range or higher. I think I'm probably too finicky for this pedal.
Pretty cool for sure, still have my original POD 2.0 under the desk for practice. I do think it may be an upgrade to that. Similar to my original THR10, the way the effects are dialed in. I’m going to wait til you check out the Katana-go.

Nice demo. An easy and good sounding piece of gear. But seems difficult to play with a nice Marshally brake up from a clean sound... i am always searching for a good small gear with at least nice reverb and nice heardphone output...
I was using a NUX Mighty Plug as my sofa/headphone amp. But plugging straight into the guitar doesn’t work well with my sofa guitar (a Steinberger). So I’m currently using a Spark Go, which is generally a step up from the Might Plug. But I’m kind of annoyed that I could use a wireless footswitch to turn effects on & off, but only if I have the app open. So the new Katana Go has my interest, and maybe I could get by with a double-female adapter so that I wouldn’t have to plug it straight into the guitar. But the Pod Express is interesting because it might be able to serve the same purpose, not take up much more space than the Spark, and give me actual knobs.
Sounds great. Kinda like baby HX Stomp with some Yamaha THR flavor. I love the form factor. I could even live with the hidden menus. Something like this and a Digitech Trio+ could make a great busking or jam rig. But there's two things keeping me from buying it. (1) No compressor. Minor thing, but I'd rather have comp than a boost, especially since a comp can be a boost, but not vice-versa. I'm jealous the bass version has a compressor (2) More of an issue for me is that there's no quick and simple way to switch non-sequential presets. If I have my clean sound on preset 1, and I'm not on preset 2, I have to cycle back down with multi-tapping or bending down to turn the knob and hope I'm accurate enough to hit 1 of 21 on the first try. Kinda makes it unusable for spontaneous live changes, IMO. If Line 6 could add a compressor and allow preset assignment to footswitches (making it configurable as an up-to-4-channel amp with external switches), that'd make this a no-brainer for me.
So it’s basically a Yamaha thr in a pedal. If you can stream backing tracks to it from your phone it would be a great headphone practice platform in that size

Does anyone know if it's possible to change the amps with software? For example being able to swap the amp of position 2 (Line 6 Ligator) with for example a Dumble Overdrive Special and position 7 (Lead) with a Soldano 100.
Huh. I just got a Boss me90 but I gotta say, this seems to sound better and it’s smaller and cheaper. Jon, how would you compare the sounds to the me90? (Obviously it has fewer options)
I was thinking about getting this to plug into my effect loop for podgo, and using its reverb, delay, chorus. Then also using it for a back up amp sim if my podgo fails during a gig. Anyone do anything like this?

Hey There.. Love your reviews and over all approach to your videos.. I also really enjoy your guitar playing.. I am new to these type of pedals, can I plug this into my amp directly and use it.. I have a Gamma 50 amp that I really enjoy the only thing is it does not have an effects loop… So can I plug the Pod Express in directly as if it is just a pedal? Thank you Craig
You can, but it probably won't sound great. You would effectively be plugging into a guitar amp and cab, miking it up and plugging the microphone's signal into a guitar amp and cab lol.
Thank you for your comment. Like I said I am new to this kind of idea for a pedal.. I am mainly interested in using it with my lap top and recording my originals.
@@ikotsus2448 It's all in the very easy to read manual. This little unit has a lot of features. You can set the Gain, Mid, Treble , Bass, Precence, Channel Volume and Amp volume. You can assign any of the footswitches to switch any of the fx on and off. You can also add an additional dual footswitch and do the same with those. You can save presets and change between them live. etc.... Of course there are a few functions that would make this unit fantastic and for me that would be: IR loaing, midi and an fx loop. But as it stands it'll go in my pedalboard with a compressor, dist, boost and a dly pedal in front and a reverb unit after it. I will be able to cover pretty much anything with this set up as the amps in this unit sound pro-level. And bear in mind, my main gigging unit is a Kemper toaster with the remote. I just wanted a small fly rig. I am currently working on a pedalboard design specifically for fly rigs because what's available on the market doesn't quite cut it for me.
@@luisrobles5743 Thanks! I still believe that dual concentric knobs for the other functions instead of the alt button would be perfect because you wouldnt lose the initial position of each knob.
I almost wish they would do a Spider pedal, with Insane mode and sweep echo ect. Cool product though for people who might want to grab a cheap guitar and this to mess around.

interfaces on the go as both tablet"ipad" Pod express can be portable.
Love ur guitar playing my man❤
I enjoy this channel. Anyone else find the microphone on the baseball cap distracting?
No.
No
Bought one.
Put it threw a pa mixer. See how well it sounds
Thank you
Craig
You can, but it probably won't sound great. You would effectively be plugging into a guitar amp and cab, miking it up and plugging the microphone's signal into a guitar amp and cab lol.
Thank you for your comment. Like I said I am new to this kind of idea for a pedal.. I am mainly interested in using it with my lap top and recording my originals.
i wonder how the box sounds played on an amp
No Bluetooth is a deal breaker for me
I think I’ll stick to my ‘59 Synthax into my Bradshaw rack.
You cannot reduce gain on the amps except clean?
Hold ALT button while tuning the boost knob. This works on all amps.
@@luisrobles5743 Thanks. I wonder if all those testing it know it!
How does it compare to boss IR2?
If Roland reform Micro Cube into a pedal,
Should a lot like this 😅
Fully agreed, and it wouldn't take much to do a Roland Jazz pedal with built-in chorus & reverb effects from that design platform
I kind of want to get 2 and run 2 amps.
Could this work and save 500x?
I don't need this, I don't need this, I don't need this.......... But....
??? SOUND QUALITY, LINE 6 OR THE BOSS IR2 ?
I almost wish they would do a Spider pedal, with Insane mode and sweep echo ect. Cool product though for people who might want to grab a cheap guitar and this to mess around.
