Regarding your question, the house band are all professional musicians who work long term contracts for Coke studio. Some of them, like guitarist Omran Shafique, have bands of their own that are on semi hiatuses. The male vocalist, Shuja Haider, is also one of several music composers for the current seasons (there have been multiple directors/composers since last season), you can usually find him at the piano in the ones he directs but doesn't sing in. The musicians are picked by the directors from a curated talent pool of seasoned as well as emerging singers. The female vocalist, Aima, was in three different tracks this season for instance. And regarding Basement, it recruits its entire crop of musicians and singers from campus drives and they are groomed by the director to eventually enter the industry proper.
Its a mix of individual artists and groups coming together to create one song. This is a live/ one cut performance. (But they obviously have a few practice sessions hence the final performance is always well synchronized).
