I am a caregiver for a lovely 86 year-old lady who loves my cooking. I am going to make this dish for her tomorrow for dinner. Thanks for the recipe.

Instead of pasta my father made it with rice and would cook the rice in with the mixture. We didn't put cheese on the top of it put it back in the oven but it was so yummy. He always fix cornbread with it and maybe green beans

Totally simple, appalachian cooking...this is how we all do it...pinch here, an eyeball here and taste! Recipes are "general" but we all know. Thanks for being a normal human and with normal video's and recipes that come from the heart.

BTW - making this tonight...looking forward to total comfort. Leftovers taste even better!!!!!! I add extra water or broth to the pot then add uncooked macaroni and simmer on low for 20 minutes. You can even turn off the stove when you add the macaroni and just let sit to thicken...one pot done! If too thick, just add water to leftovers. Sublime...With or without cheese...

That is an excellent recipe. Here is the version I grew up with, called "Oconto" goulash-lazy goulash. 1 lb. burger browned with onion, throw in 1 can or 1 bag frozen mixed veg, add in 1 can tomato soup, salt pepper and paprika to taste. Then add in a bunch of cooked wide egg noodles!

YOUR VIDEOS ARE AWESOME. One thing you just must absolutely try is to instead of cooking your pasta separately, use a bigger skillet and when the meat mixture is done, add 2 cups of water and 8 ounces of dry macaroni and put a lid on it and simmer it together until the pasta is done. I made all my pasta dishes the way you do until I read about cooking it in the sauce. The pasta gives off its starch that thickens everything into the most delicious dish! Plus it becomes a one pot meal, you will love it!

I have not cooked this in many years . Cooked it today with some cornbread . Went over great . Thanks for reminding me how good it was. This was one of my go to meals when I was low on groceries .Used macaroni to stretch meals when the kids were little .Military payed once a month. The end of the month things had to be stretch and still be good.

I made something very similar to this when my kids were coming up-it was easy, quick and inexpensive, as all things go. I loved it b/c it was filling and my husband and the kids all loved it. I always chopped a big yellow onion and put it in the initial saute'. It's been a long time since I've made it. I'm going to have to put it in the "dinner menu" rotation once again. Thanks Miss P, for the delicious reminder!!!! Looks so yummy ;)

We cook the elbow macaroni in our beef and tomato mixture. I usually add canned tomatoes, even better if they're home canned, tomato paste, onion, salt and pepper, and some water. You want to get it soupy enough to cook the macaroni. Dump the macaroni in, let it cook until even less cooked then Al dente and remove from heat. It will keep cooking until tender. Just let it sit for 10 minutes or so, and it will be done. You can also put a bay leaf in and then remove it when it's done.

I have to us store bought things a lot now. The best is that it still tast good. You are right people do it different. I do add the onions, I put 1 thing that will blow your mind. I put a can of corn. It makes it even taste better. we cook alike, I sound like a hillbilly.

That looks really good, but when you talked about the potatoes I got a bit confused. It seems to be an American thing to serve some sort of bread whether rolls/corn/sliced/or garlic, with every meal regardless of the starch content of it, bread with lasagne or roast beef & all the trimmings is a bit odd to me. Did you mean that you serve your almost one pot meal goulash that's full of pasta with cornbread AND potatoes?

    • @charliebriggs7726
