I installed the Super High lift blades part #5108135, removed the deflector and side discharged my grass today. I noticed a significant improvement in cut quality compared to the standard factory high lift blades that the mower came with. I also installed the Drainzit hose part #1420 to make oil changes easier and less messy. The Honda on the FW15 has a 20mm thread.
What's the overall measurement for the fw15 blade size I am planning on buying this mower for next season here in Connecticut but I want to try some JOHN KAVLI BLADES THEY ARE CALLED THE FINISHA BLADES
@HandyGuy2016 I took mine off this morning to replace the blades. It's a 5/8 bolt. I had to wrong set of blades I thought that were my spare in my Van. They went to my 36" Bobcat WB. Thank you sir
I'm coming from a Honda 21" and just purchased the FW15 - What setup do you recommend for someone that mulches 95% of the time, but also does a lot of overgrown yards that I usually like to discharge first if it's say over 2' and then go over it and mulch it. I want to use the FW15 as much as possible but the side discharge is killing me as it makes a mess and add time to clean up and blow clippings. From what I gather, qwikchute with factory blades is a good option? I just don't know how good that will mulch with flap closed. Any input? Thanks for the very informative videos on this machine.
@@HandyGuy2016 thank you very much for the quick response. What do you run on your machine? If I call the dealer, would I simply ask for high lift or ultra high lift blades? Are high lift blades the factory blades that come on the machine?
So is the mulch kit just a block off plate? I thought the purpose of a mulch kit was to incorporate baffles to stop the movement of cut grass toward the discharge chute?
The mulch kit is what I would want for straight up mulching, for the best versatility and cut quality I would go with the factory blades or the high lift blades and the quickchute.
Hello, this is totally off topic. But does anyone know if the steel beam running across my garage will support the weight of lifting the front of my mower with a chain hoist, like the one you have in the video? One side rest on a steel column and the other side rest on the concrete foundation? Mower weighs about 950lbs
That beam is holding up your house and everything in it. If the floor above the beam would hold the mower, then the beam itself will hold the mower. But I’d wrap a chain around it. Don’t go drilling holes in it.
@@myke_bota7590 start with Oregon 396-716. Take em to a machine shop with one of your std blades. They have carbide end mills that will cut right thru hardened steel. They can mill out the gators to the same as the std blade to fit. Maybe one day Oregon or copperhead will make gators that fit.
Part number for the Super High Lift blade is #5108135 and part number for the Regular High lift blade is #5106420. @@brandonswank1629 Yes, the cut has improved some with the addition of these blades. I believe the stripes are the same though. I removed my Big League lawn striping kit because it just made the mower much harder to turn.
I put the factory mulch kit with factory blades on mine and I am having to do multiple passes and was not too impressed with the mulching. I would like to change to different blades now.
You just saved me a bunch of work. I was thinking about doing the exact same thing. Thanks for taking the time and effort.
Definitely. I'm always looking for the perfect setup.
Cool, informative test!
Thank you sir.
We love our Fw15 mulch kit. Great mower overall.

Thanks for trying that. I have been wondering if there were any options for my FW15. Running the factory mulch kit w/wavy blades.

I have seen those, they look pretty cool, but they won't work on the FW 15 because they are timed blades.
Question what is the blade bolt size? Also how wavy blade with the single hole fit if the hi-lift has 3 mounting holes in the center?
I'm not sure on the bolt size.
@HandyGuy2016 I took mine off this morning to replace the blades. It's a 5/8 bolt. I had to wrong set of blades I thought that were my spare in my Van. They went to my 36" Bobcat WB. Thank you sir
Does Ferris still make/sell that black bracket weight you have on the front end ? and if so what is the part # tnx
I don't know, mine came with the bagger kit.
@@HandyGuy2016 thnx
I think it's hard to beat those wavy style mulching blades 😎
Agree 💯, had to try though.
6:02 my mower don’t have them blade adapters. I’m confused. Do I post have them??
Are you referring to the 3 hole blade mount? That is what keeps the blades timed correctly, so they don't hit in the middle.
@@HandyGuy2016 yup. I don’t have that one mines. So I gotta time it manually? Cuz my blades needed to be Sharpened
@@CuttaSquad yes, you will need to have one blade running front to back and the other side to side.

Yeah probably quick chute and either high lift or ultra high lift blades. Not going to be perfect for mulching, but probably the best for everything.

And I primarily run the factory high lift, but you can also run one of each.
So is the mulch kit just a block off plate? I thought the purpose of a mulch kit was to incorporate baffles to stop the movement of cut grass toward the discharge chute?
The mulch kit has a baffle section that you have to install along with the block off plate
It's a full mulch kit with baffles.
With this mower, would you rather mulch with the kit or side discharge with the quik chute barley open with stock blades?
The mulch kit is what I would want for straight up mulching, for the best versatility and cut quality I would go with the factory blades or the high lift blades and the quickchute.

Other than the ferris dealer, are there other places to order fw15 blades from?
Not that I am aware of.

I will soon, stand by...

Do they make a gator blade for this mower?
I'm not aware of any yet.
Ballard does
Could you do an x blade set up on this mower?
I would love to, but this mower has timed blades so I would not be able to run X blades without them hitting.
Thanks for the info Bud
Are there Gator blades available for the FW 15.
I'm not sure, I have not heard of any yet.
I had a set made. Took a set of 16 1/4" w/5/8" center and had them machined to fit.
