Can we just take a moment to appreciate Jim for giving us content so frequently ? He gives a plus layer to these incredible, magnificent records. Thank you, Jim! :)
Great video, Jim! What's especially great about it is that it gives us viewers company. Most of my friends don't listen to bands like Haken. Watching your videos gives me the feeling of being able to share my appreciation for these bands with someone else - awesome! Greetings from Germany. :)
I'm so happy at how many people are being introduced to Haken through these videos Jim! You introduced me to Haken with your Cockroach King and 1985 reactions. I love all the new content. Thanks a bunch just for being you, Jim!
I never thought about checking out the record label of my favourite artists and you're right! They're all from Inside Out. I just checked out their artist list and looks I have my playlist sorted for the next few weeks.
Cockroach King was my first Haken song too. 1985 is my favourite though. I think that's off Affinity. I still have my ticket stub from when they came to Perth. Amazing gig 😁
@@JimNewsteadA great band like them deserves more listens. They have so many moods and styles that keep the listener from getting complacent. Prog is so awesome!
I like their integrity, reminds me of Foxtrot (genesis) ... that vision from live videos of the gutiarists working at their craft like lumberjacks while peter gabriel cavorted around the stage feels like definitive prog rock to me lol... it reminds me that i should give these guys the benefit of the doubt, at first listen they might not light my fire but i could say the same about aforementioned Foxtrot... Yeah there's very little to fault about them, skillful, high minded, nice changeups, awesome base lines... Lush sound as you say. Maybe I just wish the lead singer's voice had a bit more presence, but it's unfair to compare anyone to peter gabriel and his treacle-thick accent lol ...i haven't paid much attention to the lyrics at first but the *delivery*, if not the content, seems to owe as much to bullet for my valentina as radiohead :P
I think Haken might possibly be my absolute favourite band at the minute. There's very little that I don't like.... in fact there's very little that's even "meh... average". I don't think I ever skip a track.
Good old Haken. I know this album well. Excellent music. The first song by Haken, I heard from you on this TH-cam channel. Immediately liked it. I’m a lifelong progressive and symphonic rock and metal fan so this band’s music fitted in well. Not everyone likes the singers voice but I do. Soft subtle passages are followed by the heavier ones but everywhere you can hear other things happening around the main theme. The band IQ, maybe not well known by most, is from the same genre of music and is highly recommend by me. Start with the song: The road of bones, to get familiar with them.
So, because I don't know Haken, and feared they were another too heavy for my taste prog metal group, I skipped viewing this when it was uploaded. But, Dr. Doug had reacted to Grounded by Ross Jennings, which I quite enjoyed and listened to because I had seen Ross Jennings when he toured with T-SO. I had commented on that reaction by asking if Haken had any less heavy songs. Track 1 and track 5 of The Mountain were suggested to me. I basically listen to new to me music via the reactors I follow, and haven't seen tracks 1 & 5 as individual reactions anywhere. I'll give this a go, and see what I think...
@@JimNewstead There were moments where I wanted to bail due to, not necessarily heaviness, but being a bit hard for my taste. I powered through, though. If side one is an example of the overall sound of this album, I'll continue on Dr. Doug has done an extended listen of The Mountain, but I think it's the entire thing in one video. I think I'm better off doing it by sides, so I'll stick with you. If I *really* enjoy it, I'll go watch Dr. Doug's reaction at a later date.
Oh good to know that some talented new Brit bands are putting out some decent rock/prog.....trying to compete with the Nordic renaissance of loads of great bands is not going to be easy....I thought Haken were American☺️.... for no real reason... 🤷♂️.
It's also interesting to explore their solo work - Richard Henshall who's a guitarist and main writer in the band has a solo album called The Cocoon, it's very good.

Thank you! It's actually quite hard work but such good fun and amazing to see the happiness it brings people! So glad you are enjoying these vids!
What a beauty of album. My favorite tracks are "Atlas Stone" and "Falling back to earth". Always great to see other enjoy this music
That "turutupapa" part on "Atlas Stone" soooo good, it can turn a bad day into a good one
Beautiful formula to presenting us great music, Thank You!
Well thank you, it's my absolute pleasure to do this!

Hmmm, yup! The same here!!!
Wonderful record. The sound layering and vocal harmonies always remind me of early Spock’s Beard channeling Gentle Giant.

Many, I hope! They deserve to be known.
Their best album imho
I never thought about checking out the record label of my favourite artists and you're right! They're all from Inside Out. I just checked out their artist list and looks I have my playlist sorted for the next few weeks.
Exactly!! They've signed Yes now!
I remember I listened it first time because I loved the intro🎹...
My favourite album while walking in the woods. Thank you !
Ok it's back on my wish list ☺️....that took just 15 minutes of listening....lol
Really enjoying this! More from a band I didn’t know…thanks Jim!
Never heard this band before. Loved it from the beggining! Thanks for sharing your great taste in music.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Picked up both reissues a few weeks back. Hopefully, the start of a blossoming vinyl collection. What a fantastic pair of albums!
I love all of Haken's albums. If I was forced to choose, I would maybe pick "Aquarius"... or "Visions"... It's hard to pick one. 😁🎶🎶😎
You and I fall in the minority for sure. Aquarius and Visions are also probably my favs by Haken
@@ryanmcgill5048 The guitars are just so chunky!
I have to pick one.... !!!! They're all wonderful.
Perhaps I'll have to do more Haken album listens!

The Cockroach King is flipping brilliant, definitely adding that one to the playlist.
Make sure you watch the Muppets inspired film clip
This is one of my absolute favorite albums.

Have you heard BTBAM's latest single, Revolution in Limbo?
Not yet.... another to add to the list!

Lately you have been playing a slew of albums that are absolutely alien to me...but I DO know, Haken. Seen them, too...the day is saved 🙌
WooHoo!

Hah yeah that 2nd track funky part is sooo YesTullWho...🤘
Hey! Great Dune shirt! I have it too 👍🏻

"Cockroach King", we hear Gentle Giant typically
