www.v8speedshop.com/contact - Joe Kosiba is one of those guys who likes to keep his stuff in order. His house and truck are always spotless, and his garage is so clean it could double as a showroom. We've often found that shops that are too clean never see any work, but Joe also knows how to get things done. Take his '63 Nova, for example. He's owned it for a long time, and it has gone through several transformations over the years, resulting in the car you see in this video. Today it's an arrow-straight street / strip terror that makes around 1000 horsepower from a small block sucking Nitrous Oxide. In this video, Joe takes the car to the World Street Challenge to run in the Wild Street class where you have to drive the car 30 miles, then run back-to-back dragstrip passes to qualify. Joe's Nova ended up winning the class with low 9-second quarter mile passes at around 150 miles per hour. If you ask Joe, it's just good clean fun. You can also see this car featured in the May, 2009, Car Craft Magazine.

You guys know how to pick the cars!!! Nice job V8TV and props on the NOVA!!!
Truly BAD ASS!
The wheels up starts look really cool from the Beer Stand.
wow that is gorgeous
This nova is beautiful. You nailed the clean beautiful mean look. Im in love.
Sweetness!! NOVA's rule!
Love those early Novas!
Great job on everything, the build, look, driving, sound. You can be proud of your work, & thought. Beautiful car, had three old novas in 1999,had to sell all to buy house, big regret. But just bought 1963 400 series to restore into street & strip car. Great video subscribed.
Beautiful car man. I respect that the work was done by the owner and that it's a street car that can get some at the track.
One of the coolest things with this car is that by looking at it you'd never know it's a rocket, except the giant meats in back...
I seen this in Car Craft Magazine. Its awesome.
Love it! Nice Nova!
There are lots of things you can do, a good trade school can set you up as a tech working on all kinds of engines & vehicle systems, and from there you can go to work for a racing engine or machine shop. Check around where you live, you might have a good shop locally you could visit and talk with the engine builders to see how they got started. Also, the sooner you can start wrenchin' on your own stuff to learn how things work, the better!
Awesome Build. Damn good driving in the final. Keep it straight and power to the ground.
this Nova is awesome , great job!
Very nice Chevy II. He got a little squirrel on the first time trial, but had it nice and straight on the 3rd.
Sweet...!
That's the way you do it. And you did it.
Very nice !!
Excellent!
Nice simple combo!
makes me want to build another race car and go racing again and race this class.
Now these cars are real street cars .
nice nova!
My dream car ❤
Crestside Cutthoat I hope you’ll be able to get one one day with however much horsepower you want 😁
nice car. to make this times everytime, a good driver is needed. and this car has one
sweet!!
nice car!
nice job on the nova, love the speak softly-but carry a big stick look to this bad ass novaaaa
That would be a cool street race car.
One Bad Ass Nova
Compression + heat = combustion, and low octane (regular) gas can ignite uncontrollably causing detonation and "pinging" in high compression engines. Higher octane fuel actually resists rogue combustion events, making it possible to raise the compression of an engine and still control the process.
Wow low 9's with a single stage on a 352 that thing must be making high 5's~6 one motor! Impressive, but I must say everyone is running a 350 at the track including the 632 guys :-) until the hood is popped. Car hauls serious a$$
Could be a variety of bore / stroke combinations, but really high revving engines like shorter stroke - less mass to change directions.
Good ole WSC1.... Sweet car! I was there, not sure how I just stumbled on this video for the 1st time. Did you ever end up getting the payout?!?!
Coming off the line it looks like it has traction control. It looks like it could go faster, if that little hesitation off the line was corrected. Love that smooth fast run anyway.
No traction control. watch it again and listen to the motor, rolling it out and gradually going to full throttle, otherwise it would blow the tires off and never re-hook again!!! May be using a nitrous controller but no traction control!!!
Very nice car..love that 63 Chevy II Nova... Only way I can see that 355 make 1000 ponies is with some NOS and pushing over 8000 RPM ???
Must be some really good breathing heads on that motor ??
I will check out Car Craft May 2009 and see whats in the motor....
my dad had a 63 nova but sold it after i was born fuck!! i want it back lmao
2.03 gears would be great top-speed gears, but they wouldn't help you off the line unless you had a 6-speed trans with a really low 2st and 2nd gear.
Sandbagging on car weight: 3000lbs with him in it, and 12 gallons of fuel. 600 hp normally aspirated and 250 more on spray. Good chassis and tires hook up well but your shock valving up front needs a tweak. She is slow to straighten out. Saginaw recirculating ball box looks loosely setup. Old dudes said the "spool was for fools.' Locker instead. Straighter.
that car is sick the little stutter off the line is perfict hes got it set up mint. post a vid if you got something that will beat that 350ci on nitrous 13 drag radial 3200lbs good luck
I think he meant single stage, and you'd be amazed how much more power it takes to go from running 11's to low 9's. I'd love to see the build sheet on that tired 350!
can you use 13 1/2 compression on 93 octane? what is the highest compression you can have on 93 octane with it still being safe? including that i had the right parts.
car lanches real wierd when he leaves the car sloowly rolles forward a about a foot and then BOOM
Can I have the motor lol I'd love to put it in my son's S-10. I had a 65 nova I built and had 406 na. But I dum and sold it wish I had it back.you have a very nice looking car be safe and have fun.
i heard that high compression isn't good for regular/premium gas. what's that supposed to mean?
what gears are you running in that car?
are 2.03 good racing gears?
how much compression does this motor have?
Hey Joe,you're close to the high 7s...c'mon you can do it.
1/2 sec. quicker in the final...Shady guy!!
i heard a hard backfire when the car took off on the final pass. thats usually a sign to get out of it. He just stayed in it and ran the fastest pass of the day. what usually causes that type of backfire on launch. was the nitrous just shocking the motor, timing in the computer, or was something hurt on that last pass. I noticed he picked up about 4/10s so i guess it didnt hurt anything. thats really flying for a street worthy small block. let me know.
I'll take that old and reliable engine off your hands, its kinda tired as you say :)
Great run, congrats ~ thats for sharing the vids
where did you get those stats from??? Your hand bag by chance???
yeah, it would be a really big bore and short stroke if i'm correct?
I would say, 550whp + a 300 shot.
True, but it wouldn't idle very well - and at a high RPM. It would want to run hot. It would be loud and choppy as hell, hard to start, and probably wouldn't make good torque at regular driving RPMs, like 1500 - 3000 where 90% of your driving takes place. Above that, it would be on, but that's why that kind of engine would be best served for the strip of dyno contests.
Sure, and it really wouldn't take all the cash in the world. But it would require a high compression ratio, and high cylinder pressure, very free-flowing heads, and a camshaft to support it. The result would be an engine that could make that number, but would not have decent street manners. Those kinds of engines - those built for all out power - are great on dynos, but not fun to drive. That's where boost / nitrous come in! High power you can drive on the street reliably.
dang you know what your talking about! i want to get into building V8's as a hobby or job. can i go to college specifically specializing in V8's? and is their jobs out their that just specialize in american V8's?
how much does an engine like this run?
damn right this is a sexy ass nova
oh yeah, and why can hondas vtecs handle such high compression like 15 to 1? isn't that bad for them?
Thats a street car!!!
@ aaardvarkkk,
The hood went up THE NEXT DAY.......
That mustang shifting gears launched a with a wheel stand to the left, might of broke a suspension part or he might have won!
It looked like he didn't have it lined up straight
i wanna know whats in that car he raced
Fuck YEA
Jaguar E-type, Austin Mini, Ariel Atom, Caterham 7, Ultima GTR......
i would love to own this pro street nova i had 4 or 5 chevy nova's but nothing like this
It's gone 8.90s...
I can do that with my 1000hp nova...... in gran turismo
Why the problem with the hole shots??
I'm guessing no trans brake, and not spraying until 2nd gear. Just a thought. Still a good hit in the final
B.S. that gota be 434.s.b. and a Turbo.400.😉
Who won the world quarter mile drag in 1963?
Too bad we couldn't hear the cars over the "sounds".
this thing street legal?
i laughed at the mustang
Single fogger? I counted 8.
can you make 1000 HP all motor chevy if you had all the money in the world?
why wouldn't they be fun on the street lol? no car could step up!
Aston Martin, Jaguar, Mclaren.
Up grade....please!
He can't get it to the ground. His '60 foot time can be dropped a quarter second with some seat time or a tire change.
i would bracket race him anyday
bracket racing sucks street racing is the only way to race
american balls 63 nova
Not enough sidewall or tire width.
thas american balls
@5:32 But wait. He lifted the hood and worked on it between runs after he just said it's against the rules to do so. WTF?
Listen to first couple of minutes of the video Einstein!!! You are not allowed to open the hood till after the 30 mile shake down run and have run 3 round robin runs once back at the track!!! After that you are allowed to add fuel, nitrous and do any other tuning and maintenance needed!!!
@bic1457 actually yes, in some classes all of those are cheating.
@jhizzylawnman on a circuit? no.
it's an old tired engine? Fuck I'd hate to hear what he'd say about my car...
is it for sale 302.542.5969 if so
Sandbagger, here let me run constant 9.5 then hit 9's on final...... Bs i would be pissed.
Hell yeah that thinks f****** sweet
789 horsepower at flywheel with the spray to run 9.50s in a 3230 pound car.not 1000!!
It is no longer an ss.. Once you start Changing parts from from factory
As long as the VIN # says it's an SS It will always be an SS!!!
350 hahaha probably a 406 with a 400 shot of nitrous
The music over the top of the car totally ruined the video.
My Brothers 67 nova is at 485 HP & runs 11's . for this car having 1000 HP it's slow what a shame : ( or it's ALL BS !!!
One 4 - wheel drive European car with 50% less Horse Power would make even donuts before the final line. Probably German. Almost any 4-wheel drive 6-cylinder can beat these guys at 1/4 q / mile? To me it is just BS. Try one. Where all 8-audis with DTurbos. No money? The service is not easy. I can and will take anyone anything from the line - just always the fastest.
5 words for you, YOU ARE full of sh*t!!!! You obviously know NOTHING about cars and drag one of those pieces of sh*t you reference out to the track and willing to bet you won't even make it to the 1/8th mile mark when he is already through the lights!!!
If that was the case they would all be here!!!
Bring yours to your local raceway and be you will be surprised!!!
Much nooooooooos!
@FuriousPixel
HMM OKAY SO DONT FUCKING BUY ONE.
"Untold44"....You are obviously not from the old school. Whiner. Sandbagging is the way its done. Dont be pissed go home and get to wrenching....Come back when you can handle it.
